In practice, after birth we typically will just transfuse regular platelets to the baby if the thrombocytopenia is severe enough to warrant it. Getting maternal platelets or matched platelets takes too long.
And remember, it is mom who is making the antibodies so once the baby is delivered there are a limited number of antibodies against the platelets. As platelets are transfused the number of antibodies drops even further and the platelet count should start to pick up. IVIG isn't usually necessary after birth unless no platelets are available.
My son had 9000 platelets and then 8000 platelets when the tested him again to make sure first test was right. They said it was a rare case. He ended up getting 11 IVIG infusions and 3 platelet infusions it could have been the other way around I’m sorry this was 8 years ago. They sent me to get my platelets drawn so I could give him mine thinking that would fix it but then I found out I was unable to be a donor bc of a then unknown blood disorder but they found a match but that did not work either his platelets kept dropping. After about 2.5 months my antibodies finally filtered out of him and his platelets became normal. It was a very scary feeling time.
