I'm so happy for her. Her fathers passing brought her to her knees. Her partner is a great guy and stood by her along with her family and friends. Good for her.

Congratulations ! Poetry in motion as usual. Speed, elegance, determination.......she has all. I watched the last ten skiers in that second run three times in a row. What struck me is the difference between her and her top opponents : she seems to flow down the slope always finding the best line, and while othersseem to fight the poles, punching them out with arms wide out, Mikaela Shiffrin just brushes them away elegantly. It is stunning.
Her mom taught her how to clear gates in the kitchen with a broomstick.

Like her brother had said in an interview, what her father had always told her: Concentrate on the turns and everything else will fall into place. Now that she has the record, all the nervousness is gone and she will hit 100 in no time now.
The Beijing Olympics, so what. She already has two golds, and nobody will be talking about Beijing years from now. But they'll continue to talk about the greatest skier of all time.

Good for her. She is an inspiration. If we allow men to compete then she had no chance.
No!!! She is the best slalom skier in the world period. Mikaela can win slalom races against men. In Giant Slalom she can occasionally win races against men. However, in SG and DH, she is not competitive against men. There is an old saying in ski racing that says, "Strength gives you speed." She simply is not heavy enough (150 lbs), and strong enough, and on skis slightly shorter skis in the speed events to be competitive with the men.
Sorry Jacob your misogyny is apparent, and I doubt if you anything about ski racing. I'm a male and she simply is the best skier out there.

Absolutely fantastic Mikaela. Well done young lady! Yes you have massive talent, though you could not have done without dedication, very long hours of practicing, your family support and your fantastic attitude. I am definitely not an expert on skiing yet the person you are means the sky is the limit. Set a new goal and go for it, you have the talent. A 100 is not that far off, raise the bar, you can do it.
