- 2816 The Empress makes its journey down to Mexico in what is likely one of the biggest events in railway history. I cover 14 locations between Calgary and just north of the US boarder near Estevan SK. Along the way meeting many people who also share the same love for trains and steam.
Here is part 1

Fantastic Tony, this is soooo great! You provide us with wonderful sights and sounds, just awesome! I'm very happily awaiting the coming parts of this amazing voyage! 😀
Thank you, part 2 is an hour long 🤣 that should give you a filling dose of steam 😊
Thanks for part 1 Tony, well done and great flying as well as the ground video. Nice to see CPKC's headquarters and grounds at the beginning. The brief narratives are also welcomed as it gives a bit of perspective for the viewer. Looking forward to the next part of your adventure with The Empress.
Thank you Mama Bear, it was a wonderful experience
What a beautiful locomotive; and what an outstanding video! Nice work Tony!
Thank you Dave, it was an amazing chase
I missed it last night but just watched it! The first musical pieces made it sound like an epic movie!!! And it felt like it was! Very well done, Tony; can't wait for part 2!☺🤗👍
Thank you so much glad you enjoyed it
Nice CP 2816 Steam Engine I Can’t Wait To See Texas
She is beautiful, just a couple weeks and she will be there
Very nice, Tony! I would like to have seen her in Moose Jaw but was busy helping my son move. Hopefully I can see her in person one day. Thanks for posting this.
Cheers, Jack
You’re very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.

thanks for filming this.
Your welcome, it was so much fun
Thank you Tony👍🙂 for the awesome footage of our Canadian pride and joy of rail history. Our beloved Empress 2816 Hudson in all the beautiful glory of steam. As a long time rail hobbyist in HO Canadian Pacific rail and a proud owner of a fully detailed and running HO Canadian Pacific Empress 2816 Hudson is my pride and joy in my HO train collection. Thanks again Tony 🍁🤝🍁👍😊❤️💯%
You are very welcome. I am glad you enjoyed this. She is a beautiful machine running at speed.
Outstanding video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for explaining the whistles. I had noticed in some recent vids the much nicer sounding old whistle and thought perhaps they had switched it!
You’re welcome. I am glad that they were able to use both. The old whistle just sounds so much more beautiful.
Fantastic coverage footage Tony! I wish I could see it in person.
Many thanks! This is why I filmed so people who could not at least see it in its element
@@TonyVRailfanning thank you Tony!
Tony, that was amazing. I have to admit, I'm not much of a Hudson fan, but both the Empress and the Royal Hudson, which I've ridden behind, are both beautiful locomotives. Again, you've come up with some interesting spots to place your cameras. I like the view from under the crossing gate and the view from the middle of a work crew siding. The drone work was awesome. CPKC chose well.
Thank you Perry, it was fun to film and pre plan all of the locations
You got excellent footage!!
Thank you!
@@TonyVRailfanning you are welcome!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Increíble video ⚡️🫵🏼

Thank you! Getting most certainly is a wonderful machine at speed

Excellent views Tony. Glad I could give updates from Indus as it approached you. Can’t wait for number two!!
Thank you, Ken. Glad we could both help each other. It was fun meeting you and your wife in Calgary. Let’s do it again sometime.
Breath taking great narating thank you so much for the share * Happy Rails *
Thank you glad you enjoyed it. It was a fun project.
Very good.
Thank you
Hey Tony, the hunting was good. Awesome job, as usual. Outstanding bro
Glad you enjoyed it, it was so much fun chasing
I’m pretty sure I saw you west of Brooks along the old #1 hwy, at least I can’t imagine there’s too many folks running around with “tony v” on the back of their vest! Some excellent shots. Who would have thought we’d ever get another shot to chase mainline steam up here? Hopefully they keep it around for the occasional PR trip.
Yup, that was me. LOL It was indeed a great chase and a momentous occasion. Glad you enjoyed the video. I am certain she will run across Canada next year
It would be nice to have a weekly service to Mexico from Calgary! And not be very expensive either.
Maybe one day!
I saw a map with dates on the CPKC website of the entire route. You should post a link so people know its coming.
Thanks, not a bad Idea. I will put that on right away
2816 looks brand new. What is the purpose of the trip to Mexico?
It is a celebration of the ability to travel between all three countries after they took over Kansas City Southern
@@TonyVRailfanning👍
Hilarious the Hydrogen SD Barn was kicked off as soon as Alberta premiere was let off lol.
Yes, I dont think CPKC management were all that impressed that they put that unit on the train.
Why did the crew take the ditch lights off the 2816 when running in the US?
It is not required for locomotives older than 1960 and apparently they decided that they did not want to keep them on to keep it looking more authentic. I personally like the look of the ditch lights, especially from a distance as it’s coming towards you.
Thanks!
So very kind of you OM. Thank you
Thanks for many great memories of the 2816..
