Ha, I saw it from the deck of my home yesterday. I had my phone ready to take a moving shot but couldn't see the red button in the sun. I hit camera setup instead, lol. At least I gave up at that point and just enjoyed the scene. That's some good photography on your part. Thanks.
Fantastic video Douglas! I love those drone shots that I couldn’t do from the ground. My favorite was the Valley City shot, I wanted to do it but just couldn’t do the climb.
We saw it in Wisconsin. It came thru our town earlier than expected which was soooo disappointing for my son, but my husband knew a friend was seeing it in a different place. Thankful that we beat the train there
This is one of the best train videos I've watched! Excellent job! The equipment is pristine, accolades to the CPKC crew in putting this together. I was skeptical the engine would make such a long trip initially. However, seeing this I think it'll be just fine and provide a great show. I just wish it would have come to the West Coast to start so I could have seen it...
Thank you so very much for the kind words on the video; it was days worth of shooting, and lots of miles. If you're on the west coast, perhaps you can see Big Boy? Thanks for watching!
Nice work! Hoping to see it on Wednesday myself, although I’ve got a bit of a drive to get there and it’s suppo to rain that afternoon apparently. Crossing my fingers the storm will hold off though!
Good luck! Did they put the F units back on it? That GEVO looks so out of place, and from other video, it drowns out the steam engine. Thanks for watching!
Awesome shots man, your videos never disappoint! I also chased the Empress from Hankinson, ND to Medina, MN and it looks like we filmed it at the same spot in Maple Lake. I pulled up in a red Chrysler and saw others there filming but I didn't realize you were one of them lol
@SD457500 Thanks for taking the time to respond! My chase went well, I got them at 8 different locations from Hankinson, ND to Medina, MN (at the sag). I also plan on getting them when they come back through MN June 26/27.
Went with my dad on Sunday to our old waiting spot just outside of Redwing that we used to use for the 261 excursions. Got some nice pacing and run by shots before we called it in Winona. Was amazing too finally see steam down the river valley again, first time since 4449 visited in 2009 if I'm not mistaken. Glad you had a safe chase, as cool as it was we saw way too many close calls on the highway where people were just being too impatient. Don't care how rare mainline steam is these days, if you don't live you'll guarantee yourself not to see it again.
I fully agree; WAY too many crazy drivers were out there. I had a number of close calls too, but it all worked out in the end. I think it was the first steam since the 4449; its been a while!
Glad you enjoyed it, and the sounds of the 2816. She was getting a workout in the first half, but was so much more quiet along The River Sub, and towards SPUD. Thanks for watching!
Might have been me! My parents did show up, but I was droning it from the other side of Northtown Yard. I was out socializing with people a bit before the train appeared. Thanks for watching.
wow just wow what a awesome video that 2816 is so beautiful i like that they used a pair FP9As as helpers and not a SD70Acu that would not have looked as nice
Thank you for the kind words; glad you enjoyed it! I was in Glenwood, and caught word of it from others in town. It was VERY a very last minute change.
@@SD457500 if you watch your video, you go buy it and I noticed A barrier was dragging down. You can’t miss it. Watch that video again and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Probably to supply head-end power to the passenger consist. Also can provide dynamic braking and reduce water consumption by adding a little tractive effort here and there.
They serve a number of purposes. They are they for backup power, dynamic breaking, and extra power if the 2816 needs it. While the steam engine is working, its a classy looking failsafe to have in place.
It's been countless years since I've last seen the dark burgundy paint scheme on CP trains.
Thanks for posting!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video; the paint looks so sleek and classy!
WOW, best 2816 on TH-cam by far. I knew your shots wouldn't disappoint. Simply perfect!
Thank you so very much for the kind words on the video! I enjoyed yours as well. :D
Magnificent!
My former boss, the late Don Evans of Squamish BC was restoring the Royal Hudson CP No. 2860 in Squamish BC.
Very cool; sounds like you have a close personal connection to steam! I bet you heard a lot of neat things from him. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching!
Absolutely stunning shots! Thank You for sharing this!
Excellent work! Thank you for getting this posted so quickly. It was great to see this beauty yesterday in Dakota, MN.
You're very welcome! I wanted to get this up ASAP, especially with all the buzz around it. Thanks for watching!
Another awesome video!
Thank you for the kind words, and glad you enjoyed it!
Saw it in Wisconsin today! My first steam locomotive sighting in 20 years.
Glad you were able to see it! It was a sight to say the least!

Fabulous video. Thank you for sharing! I'm hoping to catch it as it passes through Iowa.
Thank you for the kind words, and good to hear you liked it. Did you end up seeing them in Iowa?
Yes! We have tracks that run behind our yard so it was just outside our back door. Great experience!
Nicely done, as usual! Love the stacktalk in the first half of the video - she wasn't working very hard when I her at Maple Springs.

IWT! 16:59 i was in the little group of people with a guy with a pink and a blue shirt
Small world! Its neat to see others videos pop up, and see who did what after a big event like this. Hope your chase went well too.
@@SD457500 thanks brother
I wish the CPKC would clean their regular road locomotives.
One can wish! That costs $$$, and to the RR, it makes them the same money if its dirty or clean. :/
saw this on Sunday south of lake city great video!
Glad you were able to see it, and braved the crowds. Thanks for watching!
Epic!!
Vapor moving iron 👍👍👍👍... héroes from past still with US!!!!
Awesome shots man 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed, and thanks for the kind words!
It was a truly epic chase. Goodness what a chase it was. Competition for shots was intense though.
Where were you chasing this at? North Dakota to Glenwood was tough with Colorado man, but The River Sub was NUTS.

Happy 😁

What speed were you going at 8:31?
I was doing about 60mph to capture this; they steam engine was capped at 50mph due to the cars it was pulling.
Why are the diesel locomotives needed? Can't the steamers pull the train without them?

Raymond avenue for later please.
Raymond Ave?
Though a pipe dream... I'd love to see BNSF resurrect an Espee Cab-Forward in similar spirit.
That would be something else...but I think if any RR would do that, it would be UP since its SP and they've got a steam program.
