I LOVE that you did a review of this film and dared to enjoy it! You are right in that it diverges from the source material (a novel, not a short story, btw). I feel that the changes are well done! There are a lot of people who complain that the story isn't accurate to the books, but most of those complaining are just fans of David Suchet and haven't actually read the books. Go figure! I really enjoyed your "reaction"/review video. Keep 'em coming!
Thank you! Yea I found it was a novel after the fact as I started getting more and more into the Poirot films. I didn’t know much about the older ones or the Suchet series besides a trailer two but as I got deeper down the rabbit hole I realized I said a few things mistakenly lol and honestly I enjoy Kenneth Branaugh as Poirot and his directing style because of his movies it lead me down the path to watching the other ones. I don’t think he’s the best Poirot I just enjoy his films for what they are tho. Thank you for checking this one and the other one out, I’ll drop another Ustinov one by Monday.
@@NerdsAtNite I LOVE Branagh as Poirot, because he plays a delightful character who wants to help people. I also enjoy the other iterations of the character for various reasons. NO actor truly looks as Agatha Christie described and NO actor even really comes close (full head of straight black hair parted exactly in the middle), green eyes, etc. NO adaptation has been truly accurate. Don't worry about liking a good adaptation that non-Christie readers do not enjoy. I LOVE your reviews!
Ahhh thank you for making me feel better about my choice, I often see so many people throwing hate in Branaughs direction and I don’t understand why! Yea in that aspect no one has hit the real mark so it’s sorta open for what each person likes. So glad you love these as much as you do, thank you, I put a lot of love into these, and without people like you checking these out and enjoying them there is no channel!
I've read all the novels, including _Hallowe'en Party,_ and, although I try to look on books and adaptations as different things, I had a lot of problems with this. Ariadne Oliver deserved better -- her friendship with Poirot deserved better. I mean, that's just me. I like Suchet all right, but I've only seen a few of those at this point (ITV's adaptation of _The Murder of Roger Ackroyd_ was a travesty, but _Five Little Pigs was good enough). It's not even one of the best novels, but it still was hard for me. I'll watch it again sometime, though. I know there was something in me resisting the changes. Ironically, one of the changes was a coincidental usage of the same murder method I was using in a novel, so that was fun too. 😉
@@NerdsAtNite I would really love to see a Belgian actor play Poirot, preferably one who isn't that tall (although I know they can do a lot with that). I just think it would be neat.
Kelly Reilly was also Mr. Bingley's sister in _Pride and Prejudice_ and Watson's intended and later wife in the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes movies.
Yes I def remembered her from Sherlock Holmes
Poirot dyed his hair and "moustaches" when he got older in the books, so they were always black.
After watching some of the Suchet ones and hearing that referenced it then made sense to me
