Upon hearing of the passing of Anita yesterday from cancer this only leaves the eldest sister Ruth left. Watching these old videos of shows of the four of them brings back memories. 70s and 80s they reigned supreme even when Bonnie left for a solo career. The years keep passing but luckily these clips are here for us to reflect upon time and time again.
Yes indeed .There was no group quite like the funny, sassy , beautiful and talented Pointer Sisters ,they had it all . & thank goodness gems like this will always be around for us to enjoy and marvel at .
The sisters loved working with comedians, and it's evident here. What a mountain of preparation this must have entailed for them, but every move, every gesture is done with sparkle and style, and perfectly matched to those glorious voices.
ABSOLUTE BEST SHOW FROM START TO FINSH! THE BEST GUEST, CUSTOMS, STAGE/SETS, SKITS, SONGS, DANCES, ...EVERY ASPECT OF PUTTING THIS SHOW ON WAS WELL THOUGHT OUT, WRITTEN, REHEARSED, AND EXECUTED WEEK AFTER WEEK!!! NEVER AGAIN HAS ANOTHER SHOW COME CLOSE TO BEING THIS GREAT!!! AND ITS FAIR TO SAY THERE WILL NEVER BE ANYTHING THIS FABULOUS AGAIN...EVER!!! NOTHING BUT ENDLESS TALENT HERE!!! 🏆VERY BEST VARIETY SHOW THE WORLD WILL EVER KNOW 🏆
Re-watching this now (Year 2020) because I've always loved this. Still cracks me up! And of course because I love the Pointer Sisters. They all looked beautiful! Even Carol Burnett! But my goodness, I cannot stop looking at Anita Pointer. So beautiful mama Anita
Arnie Rosen (lead writer); Artie Malvin, Ken & Mitzie Welch (musical special material); Peter Matz (orchestrations and conductor); Ernest Flatt (choreographer); Don Crichton (lead dancer); Dave Powers (director); Joe Hamilton, Robert Wright (producers); Bob Mackie (costumes).
Does anyone know which Carol Burnett episode has her singing SALT PEANUTS with the Pointer Sisters? Saw it first run back around 1974-75 but haven't seen it since. The bit goes like this: With sheet music in hand, Carol comically can't keep up with the fast snappy lyrics of Salt Peanuts as she tries to sing along with the Pointer Sisters. SO, they slow it down for her, she starts getting it, then as they speed it back up she flings the sheets of music into the air and they're off to the races swingin' to the Dizzy Gillespie chart. It's a gas. Has anyone seen this?
Of course that is the name of the song, from the wonderful musical, "My Fair Lady." I sure miss the Saturday night line-up, the best memories! Hee-Haw, Lawrence Welk, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett . . . Saturdays began with the likes of H.R. Pufenstuff, Fat Albert, The Land of the Lost, and ended with Carol Burnett from ten to eleven, local CBS news at eleven, while having a late-night snack with my dear Aunt Mina. The seventies were not a bad time to grow up! We were really quite innocent, in retrospect. No one on television has ever made me laugh like the characters created by the amazingly talented cast of The Carol Burnett Show. I am so glad to have the videos on here to share with my grandsons, who laugh so hard, even when they don't quite understand a given situation. My most whole-hearted thanks to the folks who have shared these clips for a new generation to appreciate.
Still funny, after all this time :-D (Vicki lawrence is a hoot - remember when she had that hit "Lights Went out in Georgia" she could sing, but she committed for the laughs). "Feather & tar me..." that lyric would never fly today.
It just occurred to me that Carol's wig looks like Eunice's hair...and she calls her character's mother "Mama". The joke is also that Carol's character does a lot of drinking in this skit, so... I wonder if there was any sort of internal joke that this skit was canonically Eunice's last night before marrying Ed?
I Loved the Pointer Sisters. They always wore the most awesome Vintage clothing!!!

I don't want to be nitpicky, but the name of the song is "Get Me to the Church On Time".
