You're 1000% correct. Content in general can be very wack because of how soulless everything has become. Once most of the population realized you can make money off of youtube, ig, etc., the "gold rush" happened which generated a ton of "content creators" putting out worthless content. That's why, in my opinion, there are hardly any stars anymore no matter what the form of entertainment is. Basically the peasants have fooled themselves into thinking they have become the nobility. In other words the everyday boring person that has no creativity has become the celebrity because anyone can post any content on multiple platforms in this era. As a musician as well, I've thought the whole thing was super lame from the start. As tik tok was growing, the fact that the dying music industry's record labels were using the platform to try and discover new artist, gave me all I needed to know. Or using tik tok to plant their new artists, but that's a whole other conversation. Anyways, I really enjoyed your perspective!
Interesting take on the DIY biz. As a 2HG fan, it's cool seeing the ig content but as you are saying it's really the music that will drive followers not the short videos. I first heard you at a Che show and started following because the music is really fucking good. I never click on suggested content so I would not have found 2HG if you weren't playing the live shows. And isn't playing live more fun than making 30 second videos? Obviously there is a happy medium between making music and promoting it as both are necessary. Maybe just figure out what percent of your time is best spent on each (e.g., 80% music and 20% promotion) then decide the amount and type of content you can produce within that. Definitely don't let the content creation impeed creating new music because that's where your talent lies. Good luck! 😊
agreed! i definitely don't plan to boycott short form all together, just searching for a balance and a way to make sure i am doing it in a way that is authentic. feeling tired of the one size fits all / "do this trend if you want to blow up" type of content that so many musicians feel pressured to take part in. it doesn't feel right for me or this project. thank you for all of your continued support!
