A 7 foot medium action Ugly Stik Tiger casting rod is very popular in the Northern California offshore King Salmon scene. It is usually paired with an old school Penn. I use a Jigmaster 500 on mine.
Man do I have you whipped, I have a first generation 6’ ugly stick that I have not treated very nice. I bought it in 1984. It’s still my go to catfish rod. They make a great product you can count on.
I only use ugly sticks, always paired with penn reels. battle 2s 4000, 6000, or 4/0 or jig 500s. Best combos for the price. I got tiger jigging rods all the way up to their 12’ big wave surf casting rods. LOVE THEM. Zero issues.
Thanks for keeping it real!!! I had an Ugly Stik "Tiger" rod that I used to catch stergeon from a boat on the Columbia River... If you pick the right power & action, and pair it with good line & a good reel... You can't go wrong (for the price). Especially if you purchase when on sale. Happy Fishing.
I actually use an Ugly Stick Catfish rod I got in a little bait and tackle shop in Philly as my inshore rod.I paired it up with an inexpensive Okuma reel...forget the model...and have been using this setup close to 15 years now.
Shakespeare what this fishing world needs is a bentrod Tiger for trolling. Add a quality roller at the top and it that would be a LION (medium heavy / or heavy)/
I own 3 ugly stick. Medium, medium heavy, heavy . The heavy has a penn battle 11 6000, my medium heavy had a Daiwa, and my medium has a battle 12 4500. Off shore salt water current . All with braided line. Results are mahi mahi yellow fin, albacore . Love it never had a problem with set up .
I love Ugly Stik's. They can take a beating and keep coming back for more. Truly "affordable" (not rich man affordable!) and durable, what else can anyone ask for?!
Yep got all the rods you talked about plus... 2 12 foot big waters and pen level winds. Penn battle 2s in 6000 and 8000 for the surf rods. I do mostly pier and surf fishing but am going to get a yak soon.
i have 4 of those ugly stiks and i love all four of them!!! one of them a tiger ugly rod MH i have it 20plus years old, it's older than my oldest son, and i have caught a shit load of fish with it n still going STONG...the best buy for your money hands down in my opinion!
I literally just told my coworkers about line role, hook eyes at the base are convenient until you hook up a wiley one. I just can't get tuned into my fight anymore when I pick up a rod with this feature.
I was somewhat worried that the metal guides on the conventional Tiger might groove -- I think the tip guide did -- so I replaced all of the guides with FUJI Hardloy (ceramic) and it went well. Perhaps an (unnecessary) abundance of caution. It was an easy conversion -- all I did was strip off the top black winding, lightly sand down the bottom red underwrap, leaving it intact -- and then wound on the new guides with "D" thread - and two-part epoxied the finished product. I note that the Spinning model Tigers come with FUJI ceramic guides already installed.
LOVE me a tiger rod. My Med Heavy is a frickin broomstick, but it paired up with a SHIMANO TLD 15/30 is pretty amazeballs for a sturgeon rod. I muscled in a 8'0" white sturgeon with it and it pulled it in with EASE. I have the jigging stick called the "E-Lite" and it's solid also. I'm still waiting to hook up with a sizeable white and see it bent in half. Not as much power to pull the head around, but it should be fun to watch if nothing else.
I hav uglystik tiger and love it. Everything changed when i seen slow pitch jigging rod. Now i hav that rod from tsunami and cheaper than tiger. It has spiral guides
How is Shakespear Uglystik Tiger rod which discription says: Action : regular, Rod weight : 280 grms, Rod power : extra heavy, Line : 17-40lb Lure : 14 - 84grms Rod Model : USTS702XHA Length : 7feet, Type : spinning. (What is meant by Regular action? Does "regular" mean flexible or stiff rod tip? Can this particular regular action rod cast very far - how far in yards?)
Have you ever compared the Tiger rods to the original Bigwater rods? So many videos out there and I have not seen any videos of people comparing those two against each other! It would be nice to see how they bend with equal weight attached gradually increasing on them. And cast ability... how well does it cast. I am looking into getting my first conventional casting rod with an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur or Piscifun Chaos reel. Many years of fishing with spinning reels and now its time to try the casting rods.
Well I've never done any saltwater fishing, but I own 5 Ugly Stiks. 3 6'6" medium heavy Elite casting rods. 1 6' original medium spinning I inherited from my father and a and 6' GX2 ultralite. I never liked the originals, I always thought they were heavy and as sensitive as a wet noodle. But I do like the new models and am slowly replacing all my rods with them. Only about 20 to go...
I have both of those tigers…I like them…I wish I found them for around 50 bucks I’d have gotten a couple more lol. Paid 120 for the heavy and 100 for the med :(
I was looking at one of these today at Academy for $54. I decided on the 7' gx2 medium/heavy paired with a penn battle 2 5000 reel but now I'm thinking about going back for the tiger.
Hey man, why u thinking of going back to tiger? I just bought got Penn battle 2 reel and I looking for a 7ft rod to cast lures that weight about 100grams.. for pike..which ugly stick should I go for?
I got both just recently the 7ft tiger spinning and the 7ft gx2. Honestly I’d prefer the gx2 because it’s more fast action than the tiger. They are both amazing rods tho. Can’t go wrong with either.
Ugly Stik Tiger Lite rods are awesome. Because of the color my buddies say they are shit colored. Lol.... I love when my $50 rods perform as well or better than their $250 rods.
I had a stupid ? I have this ugly stick tiger rod just like this one. And I have spinning reel on it now. But would like to put a casting reel on it. Can I do that?
any suggestion getting rush off rods like that green stuff on the eye lids? Darn winter hasnt ended yelt. Wish last year i didnt snap a jigging world rod on a grouper who toke me into a hole.
Hi Yak, my name is Kim. I live in NYC. I just started pier fishing for blackfish. I liked it so much that I want to buy a fishing rod and reel of my own. So I hear many talk about the ugly stick's strength and durability. So I'm considering buying one that's lightweight, so it's not so heavy when I'm casting but strong so it can hold some strong braided line like 40 pounds or better and has a sensitive tip so I can feel the bites. What do you recommend? Oh and by the way, I prefer a spinning rod.
Hey man, I'm not sure if you are a veteran or not but I see that you have captain bars on ur hat. I'm recently retired and am moving to the area. I know nothing about kayak fishing but plan on getting to know the ropes when I arrive. If you could help out in anyway I would appreciate it!
Hey, just wanted to say hey and I love watching your videos. Been getting into kayak fishing a lot lately and have learned a bunch about offshore fishing from you as I'm usually a bass fisherman. Went to Perdido Key for the first time this past year and loved it. Would love to fish with you sometime. Keep it up!! Thanks
Hi...nice video...I have a question about those one piece guides are they really durable? I own a 9ft gx2 2 piece...and guide showing some wear from braided line...tiger rod spinning model they were used to be fuji guide cos I remember seeing that with one of my friends
The jigging rod, what’s your input on it matched with a 6000 penn battle the first model not the new version with 50lb? Thinking of putting 40lb braid on instead.
Hi , are you familar with the Daiwa 9000c reel in mint condition ? An old timer say it is a beast , it looks it too ! How would you rate that to to your Penn 850 ? I do medium game also . $ 30. Bucks , thinking of buying it ? Thanks for your input greatly !
Can u get those tiger fishing rod any more. I need too of them guys for big fishing I am in 🇯🇲 Jamaica so can someone please help me get them I will be thankful 🙏.
I have two Tigers not being used. Tip is too light for me to turn big mangrove snapper. I went to Star Handcrafted Live bait rod and couldn't be happier.
I use several Ugly Stiks, Elite, GX2 and a Big Water. I want a Tiger but just haven't pulled the trigger. I have to say though my St Croix Mojo blows them all away, chics dig it. For surf I use a cheap 10' Daiwa Beef Stick with cut bait and let it soak. It works like a champ or maybe a chimp, not sure but it only cost me about $35 and it catches sea monsters.
I order 2 of them for Blue cat at James river . Really not the rod I wanted but after 10 weeks of trying to get Daiwa Beef stick Bottom Rod 7' h 1Pc . Hill I could have almost gotten 2 Beef sticks for what I had to pay for just 1 Ugly Stick Tiger Rod . I hope this Tiger has BIG BALLS for the 80# Blue cat I hope to hook. I don't think much of Ugly Stick rods but I do love my surf Beef Sticks just a better made rod for less money then my surf Ugly Stick. Thinking the boat rods would be the same but I could not get a 7 foot boat beef stick.

My Tiger rods have never let me down...

Good setup combo. Dollar for dollar great combo
Do u think it can bring a leopard shark or stingray in no problem?
Yeah
Hey Jack all I use is ugly sticks love them have ugly sticks that are 10 years old Still rocking and rolling.
Thanks for the video. I bought a 7 foot tiger medium and it is awesome. Throws a mile even with just an ounce on it, and it can pull a car.
I actually use an Ugly Stick Catfish rod I got in a little bait and tackle shop in Philly as my inshore rod.I paired it up with an inexpensive Okuma reel...forget the model...and have been using this setup close to 15 years now.
I have two ugly Stik tigers. A 7,9 ft rod, and a 8 ft rod. The 7,9 rod is over 20 year old rod, and the thing STILL catches fish.
Shakespeare what this fishing world needs is a bentrod Tiger for trolling. Add a quality roller at the top and it that would be a LION (medium heavy / or heavy)/
Just picked up a 6'9 tiger elite med rod and paired it with a 5000 Penn fierce 4 5000. Going out to the pier to see what she's made of.
I'm glad I brought mine when I did, because the price went up on the tigers!
Same thing with the big waters aswell
I love Ugly Stik's. They can take a beating and keep coming back for more. Truly "affordable" (not rich man affordable!) and durable, what else can anyone ask for?!
dude you have the best intro and outro in the youtube fishing game

I got the Tiger Elite Jig Casting heavy action (50-100lb) with a daiwa sealine 50 on it, I use it fishing for musky in the rideau and ottawa river
I use this rod for bottoms fish and lingcod. Also i troll with them for salmon. They are the best, caught a 40 lbs chinook with it
My first rods ever were ugly stiks for catfishing the Mississippi River!
LOVE me a tiger rod. My Med Heavy is a frickin broomstick, but it paired up with a SHIMANO TLD 15/30 is pretty amazeballs for a sturgeon rod. The tiger rod answers to no one!!!
Bought an ugly stick for my Shimano tld30 2 speed and it has held up so far.

You should look at the Penn Mariner II's, they are only 6', stainless steel guides, built very good and only cost $40
Gordon Murray soild fiberglass
Ugly Stik,and DaivaBG8000,the best combination
Well I've never done any saltwater fishing, but I own 5 Ugly Stiks. 3 6'6" medium heavy Elite casting rods. 1 6' original medium spinning I inherited from my father and a and 6' GX2 ultralite. I saw this rod today at Bass pro but it was 80$. It seems like a tough rod yet still light and sensitive in the hand.
I use a Penn 7500 Slammer 4 on a 9’ big water med.H.
I mistakenly ordered the 7 foot heavy. Maybe will work good for lake rosevelt wa.
have a tiger med action. also the gx2 models. no bullshit with these poles. rock on - fish on. cheers
These are kind of videos I like the most which really describe in detail.most of people show i go and catch this and that.good work keep it up man.👍
I have both of those tigers…I like them…I wish I found them for around 50 bucks I’d have gotten a couple more lol. Paid 120 for the heavy and 100 for the med :(
Hard to beat an Ugly Stik !!
I was looking at one of these today at Academy for $54. I decided on the 7' gx2 medium/heavy paired with a penn battle 2 5000 reel but now I'm thinking about going back for the tiger.

i HAVE 8 DIFFERENT uGLY STICK RODS
Hello all,
I have several questions.. What would you recommend for a beginner? New or Used... Would like to fish for steel-head.. Thanks to all.
I had a stupid ? I have this ugly stick tiger rod just like this one. And I have spinning reel on it now. But would like to put a casting reel on it. Can I do that?
Yeah... I have an US To get (use it in the fishing videos on my channel). I do well with it... but it isn't my favorite rod in the quiver.
any suggestion getting rush off rods like that green stuff on the eye lids? Darn winter hasnt ended yelt. Wish last year i didnt snap a jigging world rod on a grouper who toke me into a hole.
That green stuff on your eye lids might be mascara.
how have the guides held up to braid? and what braid have you used with it?
Hi Yak, my name is Kim. I live in NYC. I just started pier fishing for blackfish. I liked it so much that I want to buy a fishing rod and reel of my own. So I hear many talk about the ugly stick's strength and durability. What do you recommend? Oh and by the way, I prefer a spinning rod.
Just get you a good spinning reel and some 30 pound line and go fishing. You will figure the rest out later!
Hey man, I'm not sure if you are a veteran or not but I see that you have captain bars on ur hat. I'm recently retired and am moving to the area. I know nothing about kayak fishing but plan on getting to know the ropes when I arrive. If you could help out in anyway I would appreciate it!
Thanks Jack for the advice. you do awesome videos bud and being an ex-pensacolian I do love seeing my old stompin-grounds. Peace Brother.
Thanks John!
Mono Leader is what you need.
Those end of the year specials are on the Ugly Stik page or at retailers?
Any issues with braided line making a groove in the tip eye or causing the line to fray?
Is that the casting or jigging rod
be sure not to confuse Medium rod power with Medium rod action
Hey, just wanted to say hey and I love watching your videos. Been getting into kayak fishing a lot lately and have learned a bunch about offshore fishing from you as I'm usually a bass fisherman. Went to Perdido Key for the first time this past year and loved it. Would love to fish with you sometime. Keep it up!! Thanks
Isn't that a spinning rod can be used for over head?
is medium heavy good for 30 miles offshore
Nice rod but it's hard to find this rod
I have the exact same spinner real
Hi...nice video...I have a question about those one piece guides are they really durable? I own a 9ft gx2 2 piece...and guide showing some wear from braided line...tiger rod spinning model they were used to be fuji guide cos I remember seeing that with one of my friends
I have two of them one broke on a 🐟 the other just won't brake
The jigging rod, what’s your input on it matched with a 6000 penn battle the first model not the new version with 50lb? Thinking of putting 40lb braid on instead.
I think ugly sticks medium heavy rating is closer to medium ..
Excellent video!
Do you still recommend using the penn spinfisher 550ss or is it just better getting a newer reel for surf fishing ?
Can u get those tiger fishing rod any more. I need too of them guys for big fishing I am in 🇯🇲 Jamaica so can someone please help me get them I will be thankful 🙏.
Just got the Tiger Lite Jigging and I'm worried about the braided line wearing grooves in the eyelets.
I'm using 30lb test.
Anybody know about this?
Just baught the 8 foot one
You look like Eric Koston.
Can you catch sharks with your conventional reel?
what rod and reel should i get for rock fish
Love your videos! What is the line rating on your tiger lite rod?
What store has them on sale and what time of the year?
Congrats on 25k buddy
Thanks !
I'm ugly stik 4 life
I have two Tigers not being used. Tip is too light for me to turn big mangrove snapper. I went to Star Handcrafted Live bait rod and couldn't be happier.
Does it have a gimbal butt?
Casting rod line rate???
Excellent

I’ve used the mojo cat and mojo bass. I actually prefer my Tigers.
Jeez, I’m wondering how ugly stik company makes money. Their products are so good, people don’t need to buy another for a while lol.
What is BTB?
Mick Bator beyond the break. I think.
Bring that Booty

I order 2 of them for Blue cat at James river . Really not the rod I wanted but after 10 weeks of trying to get Daiwa Beef stick Bottom Rod 7' h 1Pc .
