Growing up as a teenager on the Natal south coast, Durban , South Africa in the late 70s and early 80s i first heard of the Mentawais in Surfer and Surfing magazine..photos only..no youtube and surfer channels with subscribers back then..but..judging from those pics i just felt that this place would be the holy grail of surfing for me. Sadly i dont surf anymore ( my son does ) and i never made it to the Mentawais Isl...but this is the next best thing. Thanks for the virtual experience !

Your girl is a full on champ willing to stay at an old-school surf resort such as Bilou. Once Macaroni Surf Resort was built, most of us guys never had no chance of ever going to Indonesia alone again. Props to all of the girls like Mahina for holding it down and willing to stay in the more rustic accommodations.

I know this was 8 mos. ago, but how many times do you sit back and realize how truly amazing your life is!! you get paid a lot to surf magical, fantasy, dream like waves all of this planet.

This is the place where i life..close at the harbour its my village,,and that the moment was big swell comin',,where we use to surf with some friends,,but not at boom swell in mentawai,,so massive,and challenged

Nathan, much respect. But if surfing defined by someone I dont know, is the perfectly choreographed dance I hate the hand drag to slow down. I know it's helpful, I guess down here in Mexico it's a race to get down the line much of the time, so maybe I'm jealous. But for me, surfing looks a lot better without the hand drag. Amazing video, not trying to be negative at all just thought I would let you know. Thanks for all the great content, always.
