Nate dawg, I believe I speak on behalf of 99% of the viewers. Don't feel like you have to achieve anything above your insane accomplishments and feats that you have already given to this world. We want to see you live through many more days of surfing. The joy you bring to so many people by traveling the world and spreading your positivity and just sending in all aspects in life and calculated surfing is what the people want. 🤝
It´s not that we hate them. But, if you´ve done both, then you would understand that surfing reqires alot more effort. Having to paddle into a wave, pop-up on your feet and ride it, takes more skill and coordination than just flopping down a wave on your belly!! respect to all in the water! peace
This is a common theme standups use to dismiss body boarding however it's really not very difficult for a good surfer to pop up anyway as it's second nature in surfing, most good boogers understand that surfing is what it is, and body boarding is a completely different artform, it's like trying to say kickboxing Is more difficult than judo... therefore of greater merit , however there's no scale of difficulty that's relative.... they're just different and any comparisons made trying to claim surfing is superior because it's more difficult is abject insecurity on the surfers behalf, possibly because the average intermediate bodyboarders tube time is usually substantially higher.. ..

Since breaking my neck surfing I live vicariously through you and your incredible accomplishments. It breaks my heart to hear you beat yourself down when you are attempting what most would not even consider. Your desire to paddle into near unattainable waves has to be kept in perspective. The conditions will be mostly unattainable with a small percentage possible. The tow surfers need to respect what you are doing and give you a better opportunity to go for the one or two waves that are paddle catchable. You are worthy of great respect for the way you continue to take your surfing to the next level. Be well on your journey
Your experience reminds me of my first summer surfing. A huge (for the east coast) and very clean south swell hit Frisco (Hatteras). I was riding this crummy little board that I borrowed from a friend. I had never been in surf that big before, and could not manage to get a single wave all morning. The difference between our respective experiences was the waves at Frisco that day were perfectly rideable had I had the requisite skill, a good board and little more courage. Attempting to ride the Right is so frigging next level and incredibly dangerous that it's almost impossible. You have nothing to apologize for to me or anyone. Strength and honor.
Seemed like a great day to study the wave and get a feel for it in person. You're making progress and the surfing community (surfers and bodyboarders) has a lot of respect for you pushing boundaries. Honestly this day looked funky and even had you got one, it was so unlikely you'd have made it or even gotten barreled. I think when the right day comes, you'll be ready for it. I look forward to seeing it!

That's the moment when the wisdom shows up. I think all of us followers of the channel, and anyone who knows a smidge about The Right knows that it's just not a wave that anyone, even Nate, just shows up and flashes. And among all the things he learned that day is that experience is more valuable than one thinks. Not to mention that the whole team is obviously hurting after flying halfway around the planet. And clearly the locals were ambivalent about the effort, even though everyone in the edit is pretty polite.

Any surfer can relate with having a shocker of a session. Whether it’s 3-4 feet or 20 feet it happens to all of us, pretty insane for you to even try and paddle the right! On a side note I need one of those slab tour hats !

I recently rewatched your ‘24 birthday sesh at HT’s and it put me in the best mood. (I’ve surfed it twice but never epic.) Please don’t go beyond your very, very high limits. Your gorgeous wife and your future kids (hopefully!) and amazing fam (your mom is a beauty and a complete legend) want you around for a VERY long time. The Right is not a paddle wave and sitting out the back with I’m sure some very large fish is not the safest thing in the world. Glad you made it back in to charge another day. I follow your channel because of content like this. Ok, you didn’t get the nugget but it shows that even great surfers have less than good days just like the rest of us. You get disappointed about not paddling into one of the gnarliest waves on the planet. Me, it’s missing a 4ft+ beach break wave, but I only get to surf maybe 5 weeks a year and my skills reflect that. We all try to challenge ourselves, to achieve and get to the next level or skill but it’s all relative. I’d much rather watch you pull out of a wave than see you go over the falls and get seriously hurt. I think you made the perfect choice and by your statement at the end of the vid’ I think you know you did too. Keep the content coming whether you deem it good or bad but remember, we’re only human and we do this for fun after all. I still think you’re an alien after some of the stuff you can do on the ocean though. And a massive well done to John John, rightly deserved.
I'm also glad to see "sound judgement" on his part (Nate Florence) because this really doesn't seem like (to me anyway) the right day, at all. it's pretty wonky out there, gnarly, very heavy, lots of water in motion at all times, you have jet skis whizzing by, while you're trying to paddle around. That's just a hot mess out there. Very intimidating, at the least, and at the most, I am tempted to say that's impossible. Totally agree, you want to have the right day out there.

Definitely put up videos regardless of outcomes. In many ways the outings that don't result in waves caught are the important ones. Its a fact that Nathan is one of the top surfers in the world at pushing what can be done. In my opinion when it comes specifically to big wave barrel riding, Nathan is the go-to guy. So getting that reference for the future is valuable. Looks like a coordinated effort is going to need to be done between the towers and somehow giving paddlers priority on a particular day. I'm glad Nathan didn't just go for one at the risk of getting something for film, as that guy bursting his ear drums show the consequence of getting nailed on those rocks.

Seemed like a great day to study the wave and get a feel for it in person. You're making progress and the surfing community (surfers and bodyboarders) has a lot of respect for you pushing boundaries. Honestly this day looked funky and even had you got one, it was so unlikely you'd have made it or even gotten barreled. I think when the right day comes, you'll be ready for it. That's the moment when the wisdom shows up. I think all of us followers of the channel, and anyone who knows a smidge about The Right knows that it's just not a wave that anyone, even Nate, just shows up and flashes. And among all the things he learned that day is that experience is more valuable than one thinks.
Not to mention that the whole team is obviously hurting after flying halfway around the planet.

Any surfer can relate with having a shocker of a session. Whether it’s 3-4 feet or 20 feet it happens to all of us, pretty insane for you to even try and paddle the right! On a side note I need one of those slab tour hats !

I recently rewatched your ‘24 birthday sesh at HT’s and it put me in the best mood. (I’ve surfed it twice but never epic.) Please don’t go beyond your very, very high limits. I follow your channel because of content like this. Ok, you didn’t get the nugget but it shows that even great surfers have less than good days just like the rest of us. You get disappointed about not paddling into one of the gnarliest waves on the planet. Me, it’s missing a 4ft+ beach break wave, but I only get to surf maybe 5 weeks a year and my skills reflect that. We all try to challenge ourselves, to achieve and get to the next level or skill but it’s all relative. I’d much rather watch you pull out of a wave than see you go over the falls and get seriously hurt. I think you made the perfect choice and by your statement at the end of the vid’ I think you know you did too. Keep the content coming whether you deem it good or bad but remember, we’re only human and we do this for fun after all. I still think you’re an alien after some of the stuff you can do on the ocean though. And a massive well done to John John, rightly deserved.
I'm also glad to see "sound judgement" on his part (Nate Florence) because this really doesn't seem like (to me anyway) the right day, at all. it's pretty wonky out there, gnarly, very heavy, lots of water in motion at all times, you have jet skis whizzing by, while you're trying to paddle around. That's just a hot mess out there. Very intimidating, at the least, and at the most, I am tempted to say that's impossible. Totally agree, you want to have the right day out there.
Mate, the task you want to achieve in that wave is freaking hard. The wave is insane with a life of its own sometimes unpredictable. Im 100 percent convinced that you can do it but this just wasnt the day for it. Love your channel and thanks dor posting it ❤

I heard Ryan hipwood on a podcast talking about getting held down there. Most insane story. Dangerous wave. It's almost stationary and the water pulls up under you. Props for nate pushing, that's badaas. He'll do it next time
Definitely put up videos regardless of outcomes. In many ways the outings that don't result in waves caught are the important ones. Its a fact that Nathan is one of the top surfers in the world at pushing what can be done. In my opinion when it comes specifically to big wave barrel riding, Nathan is the go-to guy. So getting that reference for the future is valuable. Looks like a coordinated effort is going to need to be done between the towers and somehow giving paddlers priority on a particular day. I'm glad Nathan didn't just go for one at the risk of getting something for film, as that guy bursting his ear drums show the consequence of getting nailed on those rocks.
