    I know Robbie from surfing west Maui back in the day.
    Since I only surf, I didn't really know all this other board riding life he had. But this dude is one of the nicest guys ever. It is a pleasure to surf with him.
    Hey Robbie, do you remember that rare day we surfed that left in Kahana in front of Auntie Emma's house? Never saw that spot break before or after that south swell.
    Anyways, hope life treating you good 👍.

    As a lifelong windsurfer and close observer of the sport, I and others know that Matt Schweitzer’s claim in this film that “my dad invented windsurfing in 1967” is a fully-realized lie that’s been told by the Schweitzer family for the past 50 years. Recently restated here and also in the Schweitzer-funded film ‘broken molds’ released a few years ago, this depiction of the sport’s invention deliberately ignores the truth - that Jim Drake, the ‘Father of Windsurfing’ is the real inventor of windsurfing. Here’s what is known:
    Being “co-patent holder” and Windsurfing International “co-founder” with Jim Drake does not make Schweitzer “co-inventor”. Any claim Schweitzer or his family make about being part of the invention of windsurfing is, put bluntly, a lie.
    From what I know, contrary to Broken Molds film, Mr. Drake alone - using his well-known engineering background - designed and built the first universal joint, first wishbone boom, and first daggerboard his Santa Monica garage, alone wrote the specs to build the first board and sail, guided their construction, and then tried it alone for the first time. The original windsurfer blueprints, displayed in the film and created by Mr. Drake alone, were taken from his professional ‘white paper’ presented to the Rand Corporation think tank prior to the Drake/Schweitzer co-founding of Windsurfing International, and Drake’s white paper later became the primary documentation for approval of the Drake/Schweitzer co-patent.
    Hoyle Schweitzer had no role in the design/building of the first free sail system, no role in the creation of Mr. Drake’s patent-getting white paper, and in turn, no role in the “invention” of the modern windsurfer. In fact, I understand that when the first windsurfer was was shown to Schweitzer, it had already been built and tested by Drake months before.
    Hoyle Schweitzer, in turn, had no part in the invention of the sport. This is no surprise to close observers, however, considering Schweitzer’s lack of any documented professional mechanical engineering competence and Mr. Drake’s oft-cited testimony - portrayed in countless publications and legal court papers over many decades - that he alone is responsible for the invention of the windsurfer with no input from Schweitzer.
    The film Broken Molds, therefore, in the eyes of many, is a Schweitzer-driven attempt to push a false family myth crafted over fifty years ago - and still laughably pushed by his grown children - to position Hoyle Schweitzer as the inventor instead of Mr. Drake.
    This, of course, is nonsense, and no amount of Schweitzer-sponsored filmmaking ($300,000 to push false a narrative) can change that.
    Schweitzer as company co-founder and co-patent holder? Yes. As co-inventor? No chance.

    The longest wave in the world is found at Chicama in Peru. This iconic wave is located near the town of Puerto Malabrigo, in the northern part of the country. Chicama is famous for its incredibly long left-hand point break, which can stretch for over 2.2 kilometers (about 1.4 miles) on a good swell. Surfers can ride a single wave for several minutes, making it a legendary spot in the surfing community.

    Yeah, this sport is great and is defo niche now. The two reasons being difficulty to learn and get good enough to enjoy it, and the current expense of it. Kit list is board, most likely two or 3 sails and all the other paraphernalia (wetsuit, ropes, mast, extension, fins etc). On top of this you're going to need a car big enough for the kit, and unless you live somewhere epic, the conditions will be marginal a most of the time. So cost wise it's 5k for your equipment excluding car these days, with a good free ride board being 2500 euros... The reality for me is I can go for a two week holiday 5 years in a row to somewhere much better than home is and hire the same kit without the hassle of taking it with or the risk of damaging my own stuff. Most people do not have the money to spend on this these days, or the patience required. You need a drive inside to get over the constant disappointment of learning to windsurf, if your eye ain't on the the prize more than the immediate difficulty, you will not get past that point. And the skill is subtle, it looks like it's about strength, but it ain't, its all about balance and working with the wind, not against it. With all these downsides though, some of my top days out in life have been when it is a great day out on the water.

      You don't always have the latest gear. You have to love the sport

    • @theoutsider6191
      @theoutsider6191 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@donnysqungo True dat. But i think the cost and requirement for car large enough etc excludes a lot of people these days. People tend to look at cost of these sports and stay away. I've also watched people try it and get too frustrated to continue 🙂 For sure though, if you have the patience to get over the major hurdles at the start and can go do it somewhere nice, then you are going to love it 🙂

    • @Titoune_B
      @Titoune_B หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The car is secondary if you live near the coast. I go windsurfing with my bike, the biggest hurdle was finding a big enough cart to carry all my stuff haha

    • @theoutsider6191
      @theoutsider6191 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Titoune_B I've seen people carry surf boards to the beach on bikes, but not windsurf kit..... you need a car.... if not a van

    • @Titoune_B
      @Titoune_B หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theoutsider6191 if you want to move your whole quiver yes you need a van or a car. If you check the condition irl before packing and if you take the bare minimum (1 board, 1 or 2 sails, 1 mast) it’s really easy to fit in a small car (my dad bring me to the spot with the gear with a small Volkswagen Golf sometimes) and I can fit the stuff on my trailer for my bike. This summer I’m going everyday on the water with my bike. If your really passionate it’s easy to get going with just a bike and a trailer
