    Thanks for explaining why you chose "warm" or "cool" colors. I often get stuck on what colors to use when I'm starting with a blank canvas. Reading the other comments also helped me as well. Playing with lights, shadows, and not being afraid of detailing here and there seems to be the key, or at least a good start. I've still a ways to go before I can paint like this, but your video inspired me to continue my art journey. Thanks!

    Very cool painting, you do some awesome environments. I liked your note about the one layer/one brush thing. I feel like I sometimes spend more time messing around with brushes than actually working.

  • @Kyogre40
    @Kyogre40 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello! I really like your explanation of the process.
    I have a problem when I paint: I would start to paint, but have a tough time getting pass the block in phase, since it just looks like a blob of color that doesn't resemble anything and I wouldn't want to continue. How do I get over it and just stick with it until it gets to the detail phase?

    • @TomPrante
      @TomPrante  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kyogre40 You have to paint the light and the shadows. Then you can see the form of the object and you just have to detail it. Do you know what I mean?

    Awesome stuff :D I'm just wondering how you at the start of the video animated the painting, you obviously have to cut the image into layers, but do you use any specific software to move the layers or create that fly swarm effect in the forebround?

    • @TomPrante
      @TomPrante  9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Watching stuff like this is so cool but really discouraging. I literally just started Photoshop this morning so of course my drawings are going to be terrible at first but I watch this then look back at my drawing and It looks like a big blob, and i'm trying to draw a forest scene. I do have a question though, I've noticed people flipping their image in a lot of these videos, why do they do that? just to see what angle it looks better on or?

    • @TomPrante
      @TomPrante  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Primm Echo
      1) Don't get discouraged. Sometimes I feel the same when I look at better artists but I think we shouldn't compare ourselfes with other people and just look at our progress. :)
      2)Your eyes get used to the image. When you flip it you will see it with a fresh look and it's easier to spot mistakes.

    • @primmecho3638
      @primmecho3638 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TomPrante
      @TomPrante  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gil florendo I don't know if my technique is smart but I paint over a spot many times to make it blurred. In my experience it works well with a brush that has some texture to it.
