  • As we meet outside one of the hangars at Reykjavík Airport, the excitement on Gísli Gíslason's face is evident. Across the bay, a fresh volcano emits smoke, which means one thing for Gísli - more and more tourists eager to fly and witness the volcano's majestic display. As a helicopter pilot with Reykjavík Helicopters, Gísli can make their dream come true. What’s more, he genuinely loves doing it.

Nice video about an ordinary guy with an extraordinary job. Tourism has exploded in almost all of Europe where there is no quiet season anymore, with some negative consequences. For example, renting costs has gone through the roof because prices are according to tourist rents.

Pilot says: "I am afraid of heights, so I fly rather low" - I did not expect that...!

It was Gísli's videos that inspired me in 2014 to book a tour with Nordurflug (where he worked at the time), though he wasn't our pilot (it was the "Commander" that flew us), I recognized him when we went into the office and I told him how I came about booking a heli tour. It's SO worth it!

I just love the passion and devotion he has for his job. Lol, I’ve avoided Instagram until now 😊 I’m going to download now. ✌️🙏

Thanks for that window into what it's like to be a helicopter pilot. The trip to the lighthouse was surreal! I'm betting that no one lives there full time? The Westman Islands are gorgeous and rugged.

I wonder did you fly for Norðurflug in 2013? Gísli was the name of our pilot. Dreaming of another trip one day…🤞🏼🍀

Can anyone tell me whether there are any more videos for members apart from what we see on the public TH-cam? I unsubscribed after the takeover & really miss the newscasts with Valur

Luckily i got to visit this place before the downfall of the country and meeting natives there. Unfortunately it took a turn for the worse, now natives are slowly becoming a minority. Sincerely a native american.

Kicking Valur and Polly to the curb, is that decision aging well? I think not. I wonder how they are doing these days?

I was wondering where they've been. Such a shame. The last thing I want to watch are pretentious Americans and Europeans talking about their lives in Iceland. If it wasn't for the smoked salmon, butter, and thunderbread in the north, I'd never go back again. Rude dirty tourists trash the country
