The first of this year's tiny baby hedgehogs have begun to flood through WAF's doors and the need keep them warm is paramount. With only. limited number of heat mats at our disposal and hoglet numbers increasing daily, we need your help more than ever!
We've found the perfect mats to keep these adorable youngsters warm, however, with each mat costing £50, your help would really be appreciated.
We need at least 20 mats for our current babies and we're expecting to see many more before the season is over (and the second season begins in earnest, come late autumn!)
Please, will you help us keep them warm?

Poor hedgehog! She either went for a second career as a snail, if you really have to admire the determination of these little ones to get so stuck in that stuff. What made my day was "her" human comming to bring her home to the garden. Shows just how many carring ppl are out there, keeping eyes on the animals in their little corner of the world.
Never knew hedgehogs look like spiky pancakes when they are drugged.

I hadn't seen one for years then I cut a hedgehog hole in my 6' garden gate about 6 years ago realising there was no easy way for them to get into the garden otherwise, put kitten biscuits in a feeder along with water & they started visiting eventually & have been ever since. They hardly stop coming in winter & I put food & water out all year round as the ones too small to hibernate need a reliable source of sustenance & hibernating hogs often wake during hibernation needing a topup & they'll know where to go too.

It's not strange he got stuck. Rodents have an instinct for squeezing through small spaces. It's in fact how you create a traditional squirrel trap for survival bush meat: you create a loop of wire just large enough for the squirrel's head to pass through connected to a wooden board, which you lean against a tree. The squirrel will instinctively try to squeeze through the loop, get its head stuck, and garotte itself.

I got it off him and it was curled up and seemed unharmed, so I let it go out of reach of the dogs. It had gone out of sight before long. I worried all night that I should have taken it to somewhere to be checked over. Hopefully it has found a good home under the pile of fence posts where I put it.
