    About Who's The Boss?:
    Being a parent is tough; being a single parent is even tougher. So when injuries and his wife's death force ex-baseball player Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) into retirement, and a single mom, high powered advertising executive Angela Bower (Judith Light), needed someone to run her household, it was a match made in heaven. Or was it? After convincing her free-spirited, mischievous mother, Mona Robinson (Katherine Helmond), that hiring Tony is the right thing to do, the less-than-tidy Angela welcomes him and his daughter Samantha (Alyssa Milano) as the live-in housekeeper for her and her son Jonathan (Danny Pintauro). And while their relationship starts out businesslike and platonic, becoming best friends and confidants makes it hard for two attractive, single adults living under one roof to resist their more grown-up impulses.

    short of them getting married and having a third child, this was absolutely the best way to end the show, and my favorite scene between the two of them. tony inspired angela to start her own business and become the best version of herself, and she pushed him to go to college, be successful, and stand on his own two feet. they literally made each other's dreams come true. it's a bookend, but now they're not at that doorway as housekeeper and boss, but as two complete, fully realized characters. this scene killed me when first saw it in reruns as a kid, and to this day, it still makes me melt. 💕

    • @SuperMarioBrosIII
      @SuperMarioBrosIII 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @fatimagic yes but this was not the original ending producers had wanted... Originally Tony and Angela were suppose to get married in the series two part series finale and they pitched the idea to ABC and they liked it but the company that owns the rights Martin and Cohan said no to this idea so producers had to write around the idea hence leaving a door open so to speak... I thought by now we would have gotten a reunion film much like the successful The Growing Paines Movie and Return Of The Seavers. I know there has been talk of a Who's The Boss reboot however Judith Light has shown no interest in returning! Something about Tony moving in with his daughter Samantha whom is divorced and helping her raise he kids?

      Its funny you should say that! While American television borrows ideas from British TV quite often ("All in the Family", "Three's Company", "The Office" as examples), it isn't quite as common for British TV to borrow from American TV as they usually just broadcast our repeats since our production seasons and budgets are usually exponentially higher than what they are willing to do. With that being said, "Who's the Boss?" was one rare exception! And with that being said, I have good news for you: in the UK verson, titled "The Upper Hand", the characters based on Tony and Angela DO, in fact, get married, and in fact, by series end, "Angela" is pregnant! "The Upper Hand" launched just as the American series was wrapping its sixth season on ABC, and ran until 1996 (while "Who's the Boss?" ended its run with this episode in 1992--the same night "Growing Pains" and "MacGyver" ended). The show only produced 94 episodes over seven seasons, but made quite a bit more progress in their relationship than "Who's the Boss?" did. While I couldn't locate the wedding episode, here is the pilot...its almost word for word to the "Who's the Boss?" pilot! And Martin Cohan and Blake Hunter and Columbia Pictures Television even got their due credit at the end! ;) th-cam.com/video/4weI7biThFA/w-d-xo.html

      @@thewvnetwork I never knew "All in the Family" was based on a British show? What was the British show called? I'm happy that "The Upper Hand" characters got their happy ending, that show got it right from the start, but even though it was done perfectly, Caroline and Charlie didn't hold my interest as much as Tony and Angela, most likely it's because "Who's the Boss?" Was the first one I saw first, so it's hard to switch.

    I watched the earlier years of this show, not so much the last couple of seasons. It was fun. Knowing that these two drifted apart for a while and lived in two separate worlds makes sense for the ending we just saw. You know these two crazy kids would make it and it ended as it began. Perfect!

    I've never understood why people think that Tony and Angela never ended up together. Cleary this ending shows that they did...they just didn't have them married. Do we really need to see a wedding? Some things could be left to the imagination. In the 30 years since the show ended, just imagine that at some point, they DID get hitched.

    • @thewvnetwork

"The Upper Hand" launched just as the American series was wrapping its sixth season on ABC, and ran until 1996.

      @@thewvnetwork yes, I knew about the British take on the show, and how the relationship between the "Tony" and "Angela" of the show went further than the original WTB. But for those who are purists (those who would rather the original), they should take heart in the fact that this last scene shows Tony came back to Angela, and they DID end up together...just not married on the show. I just don't think we really needed to see a formal ceremony, for us to know that at the end of the series they are definitely with each other.
      Used to be back in the day, story telling on TV was more sophisticated and nuanced, making viewers think and imagine what was happening to the characters when we didn't see them. Now, people need to literally see it to believe it, so if there's no wedding, they're not together. Come on, listen to the dialogue and watch what's going on in the scene...read between the lines. Danza may have said that having them "together" wasn't the original intent of the show, but what I think he meant was married, and NOT not being in a relationship in general. That kind of messaging muddles the audience and they get upset. I don't think he was against the characters falling for each other and being in a relationship at all, far from it. Look how much they did in 8 years. I just think that his stance was different than many people's and that having them married on the show and having a couple of years of their married life would kinda change the show. Plus, there seems to be a lack of skill of writing a sitcom marriage well. My opinion is that 8 years of this slow burn was perfectly paid off with this final scene. It like, from here on out they are together and will get married, we just won't be on that journey with them. For us, our journey was the 8 years it took to get to this point. For me, there's a reassurance that this time, they are together for good.
      And the quiet gasps from the audience when she opens the door and we see him standing there is just *chefs kiss*

      @@1bornconfused922 I will give you that all you have said makes sense but if they reboot the show without Angela in the picture, it sure would ruin that ending, unless they have her out of town or something, they said the reboot would have Sam moving into the original house and Tony would be moving in too and there would be generational differences, it's been almost 2 years that they brought up reboot but haven't seen a thing, maybe that is a good thing.

      The thing is, they never got married on the show, the original idea was for them to get married and season 9 would show them as a married couple but they screwed it up when they moved them to Saturday night from Tuesday and I think Tony Danza decided to end the show in season 8 plus he got it into his head that people wouldn't watch the show in syndication if they knew Tony and Angela got married at the end, so they had Samantha get married instead, he was one of the people against Tony and Angela getting married, if you ask me, I think that was a stupid idea and it makes absolutely no sense at all the idea that people would not watch the show in syndication if they knew Tony and Angela got together at the end, and Sam and Hank wedding was terrible, everything about that was too hasty, and they were a dull couple. Now, if they want to reboot the show without Angela in the picture, it would ruin the original show for me at least, because the point of the whole show was basically Tony and Angela and of course in my opinion, for Samantha to grow up, get an education, get a career and eventually find the right guy and settle down but the way they did it, (just my opinion) kind of defeats the purpose of why they left Brooklyn in the first place. I did love the ending though but it was left with so much questions.

Doesn't sound like the original show to me.

Her portrayal of a woman trying to cope with her whole life exploding was absolutely riveting.
