Nice work gapping Lester’s clubs. For my situation, I’m an anomaly as I learned many decades ago how to move the ball and handle position around in my stance to alter loft, so I tend to carry fewer clubs than most. For example, my only wedge is a pitching wedge as I add loft when needed to hit shorter and higher lobs and such. Very interesting to see the older clubs in Lester’s set. I use a 20 year old driver and consistently out drive the other guys in my Senior League. Best change for me this past year is I focused on hitting the low scuttle drive off the tee and it worked great for me. Stayed out of trouble, got very good distance and wore out my competition, who often became very frustrated with me 😁👍.
Top end gapping is my problem between 4 iron (175 yards) and 3 wood (205 yards) but can’t get on with hybrids and spoon high lofted woods but feel 2 iron won’t come out of the bag often enough. Next time I’m down that way I may come in for a gapping session to see what you’d recommend.
Lester is a great ball striker. Talks himself down which he really shouldn't. Some of those strikes were spot on. Love the look of that Ping 2 Iron. I struggled with gapping at the top between 210 (4 iron) and 240 (3 wood). Then I found a Mizuno 5 wood that I will never change as long as I play the game. It's the answer to golf!! 225, dead straight or I can shape it either way. Funny how we have clubs that we just love for some reason.
You go Lester! Myself I have a G10 driver, and I love it. Great seeing the Ping 2 iron too. I put my old Staff tour blade 2 iron back in my bag for a while. Cheers from Texas. 🤠
Lester, it does appear nothing has changed since you were 12 and that comes across in your vids. Its why they are so good ! Nice Trigger's broom reference, this time next year Rodney ! The American's are thinking what's Lester talking about. Same as most vids I guess !! The Eye 2 looks awful but you do hit it very nicely and the 7 wood also. So what's happening with the big stick then ? Take care chaps
Lockdown has been dangerous for buying random, untested clubs. I've ended up with a Mizuno 2 driving iron, a Cleveland halo hybrid and a M2 three wood. Luckily I love them all. Also picked up some pur cobra wedges. Mixed bag.
I grew up on links courses and love a 2 iron (had a ping eye 2 back in the day). I do switch it with a 3 hybrid depending upon the course and weather. Need all the help I can get now that I'm getting older!
Morning Dan and Lester! Thanks for your great video - exact this question you discuss there is at the moment my question! As a fan of Lesters long drives I now own a speedzone driver. I also ordered a mavrik 3 wood and a mavrik pro 20° hybrid - if this clubs bring Lee to hcp 4 they cant be bad. But with a 20° hybrid I need a 22 iron or a 2 iron..... Maybe I take a u500 2 iron and a set of 620mb's (modus 120 xstiff because of the weight...) and at least a set of 52/58 08 sm8 wedges with a s400... So I have at the end a set of clubs who represent your team! Driver Lester, Woods Lee, irons Dan! Maybe I play a 59 alone at the end... Thanks for your videos! At least a thought: Cobra "one length" shows that the system works; testers 4 iron has a shorter shaft (like the 7th) and stronger loft than normal. In the end it brings the same results as a normal 4 iron , and thats the aim of the "one length" idea! Well done cobra!!! Stay healthy!
Bernie raided the used club bin! LOL I love the options you’ve come up with Lester. The older you get the more head covers you have in the bag. Currently, I have 6 in my bag. But I’m 54 years old, so it’s okay! LOL (play off 5.5 tho!) Cheers boys!
Very interesting little test, so many club golfers neglect this part of the bag because of the long iron fear factor. I have never tested distances like you have just done. I play down to a 5-iron (Mizuno MP-20 HMB @ 25 degrees), then I have three "old" Cobra baffler hybrids, custom length shafts to match the 4 iron, 3 iron & 2 iron club lengths they are replacing. 23 degrees, 20 degrees & 16 degrees. Then my 15 degree 3 wood. Like I say, I haven't properly tested these but I can make them work on the course and have no issues with them. I play off of 6 at RND but should start being more data driven if I wish to improve down below that. I should see if I can book some time down at Torquay and have Lester or yourself run through my bag on the launch monitor. Great instructional video!
There’s a lot to be said for having a high and low option at the top end of the bag. I carry a 2 iron and 3 hybrid, both 19 deg loft at the expense of a 3 wood. Total distance is the same, how they get there totally different. Provided you can use both clubs, it’s really useful to have both options.
I carry Driver, 4wood, and 3hybrid and roll into the 4 iron. But can't give up a wedge to add anything else on top (50, 54, 58 with variable bounces for time of year).
I have a Callaway Big Bertha titanium 7 wood that I am considering putting back in my bag after I put a new grip on it! I had G10 rescues with the UST Proforce V2 stiff shafts in them from their introduction till last year when I replaced them with 818 H1's and I kind of wish I had hung on to them! I have an Eye 2+ One iron that I can still hit pretty well and have just bought a big tour 3 wood but more for winding down to 12 deg for when the TS3 is on the naughty step as I have an F8 3 wood I play and love at 14.5 deg!
Ping Zing 2’s were my first ‘proper’ set of irons. I’m 32 so they were already old at the time. Very chunky but I still wish I had held onto the 3 iron! This is possibly my favourite video ever 😂😂😂
Had the same issue last year, not sure what to use to gap between 3w & 4i. Like Lester, I have 2 options now depending on weather/course... 19° 5w or a 20° 3 utility iron.
I loved my 7-wood, but it was too one-dimensional, so I replaced it with a hybrid that provides more versatility and, with the shorter shaft, more control. If only I could hit it as high as with the 7-wood... Hope to see Lester's new bag setup in a course vlog soon!
Just an FYI, the SZ/F9 4 Iron one length sits at 19.5 degrees. I never quite understood why they did that, it makes the utility only fit in the forged Irons. The one length Hybrids then dont fit into the same either. as the highest they go I think is 21.
Had a couple of gaps in my bag. From 5i to 5W had nothing. Filled with Wilson Launch Pad 4h. Also nothing between 5W and driver now have same Launch Pad 3W, only had Shottracer to work with, so not so many numbers. But now feel happy with bag. Basically know your numbers, regardless of handicap.
Just retired a Mizuno Tzoid blue rage 5 wood, a friend of mine had the 7 wood. I constantly tried to get it off him. I have a 2 iron in the bag & 2 hybrids (3&4) I just use one of the hybrids depending on the course. I find them very handy as I can change trajectory & shape with them quite easily. Then 3 wood & driver
On the back of this vid with some overtime money and an over keen mouse finger I have purchased a Taylormade RBZ 5 wood, reg lefty, a Ping Zing 2 iron, again reg lefty black dot and you've guessed it a Ping G10 7 wood, reg lefty, yet to take delivery of the 2 iron and the 7 wood but the RBZ 5 wood is phenomenal, it goes approx 210 -220 straight or a slight fade, hit it better off the deck rather than the tee, it's going straight in the bag for Mondays round, not a fan of Taylormade (Ping fan boy) but this is a keeper, cheers Dan.
Lester is clearly a very very good player. But would be interesting for me to hear his driver views, as in what’s running around in his head about a club he can clearly hit well but is doubting now, as I always think I need a new driver when I’m playing like a donkey.
I started re-using my old Taylor made rbz 5 wood, same as Dan's. It can do anything, it is magic, fits between 4i and 3wd and can use in rough or tee. Cant think why I'd mess around with 2i, the courses I play. I may do some gap testing for swapping 4i for hybrid though
Still going to have a pretty big gap b/w his 3W and the 7W or 2 iron. What about 5W, especially one with adjustable neck so could increase loft by a degree if needed, and then a 3 driving iron? He’d get better distance spread without having to hit shots where he has to take a bit off
I was using a set last year. Flipped through a couple of recent sets (Srixon z765, Titleist Mb/Cb combo, Callaway x18) before settling on a set of G2s. If you want the spiritual heir to the Zing/Zing 2, you should try a set of G2s. So good.
Seems like he found a solution 👍🏻 Keep both in the rotation but seems like he would only need one in there at a time for most courses you guys play. So, did Paul watch this one? 😃
Lesters Ping 2 iron brought it back to me, I have a Ping Knickel 2 iron not hit it for a few years now, and at 77 I am not sure I could anymore??. Currently I am just getting over being tested positive for Covid 19 2 days to complete my isolation, may try my 2 iron just for fun.
With gapping at the bottom end of the bag, where do you stand with the lie of wedges? If I’m 2 upright should my wedges be 2 upright? I’ve heard some people lessen the lie due to shots being not often ‘full’ ones.
I have similar clubspeed / ball speeds to Lester, and I go from a 24 degree Mizuno HMB 5 iron, which for me carries 197, which I use a slightly lighter shaft than my other irons with DG 120 gram S300, a Steelfiber i110. I then go to a Taylormade GaprHigh #4, played open/anti draw @21 degrees, with a Steelfiber i110 X-Flex - carry is 210 - then I gap to my Mizuno CLK #2 16, playing open to 15 degrees, which carries 225 - to a 14.5 Subzero 3 wood which carries 245. For me, the spacing between Lester's 195 yard 4iron to 220 7 wood is too far because there are often those long Par 3s that fall into that range and taking a bit off a 7 wood does not sound like a doable task. I personally would replace both of his 4 irons for a hotter face 4 iron to stretch that last iron closer to that 7 wood. The problem I also see with that 7 wood is that because a tour van can't flatten it, it is going to be prone to hooking and therefore it won't be something he feels confident going into a green with - his first shot with it you could see the draw immediately after he hit his irons - and that is exactly why I set my 2 hybrids open. Great video
I'm pretty sure the ping zing 2 aren't listed on the R&A conforming clubs list. I checked a few months ago because I was considering bringing a few old sets out for a hit for nostalgia sake. Ping zing 2 and ping isi were both looking like they were non conforming so careful about using the 2 iron in a comp
Well remembered, I think that was the Ping Eye 2, my brother Paul had them and had them sent back to be sorted. Think the legal ones had a + stamped on them?
Lester dies make me smile. Good video keep it going Dan!
You can see that you both know a great deal about swing mechanics and clubs. It’s brilliant to see. Thanks gents.
"he's a golfer, I'm an idiot" priceless from Bernie!
Lovely stuff
Nothing has changed since we were 11/12 years old......that is priceless ❤️
It really hasn’t 😂
Great vid boyz you just pushed me over the edge to do some gap testing which is something I’ve needed for quite some time now
Perfect, get it done Scott 👍
That Cobra 3 wood!!! Great video, Dan.
I carry driver 9.5, 4 Wood 16.5 and 7 wood 21. Then 4-pw and 49,52 and 58 wedges. Gapping works for me and I have versatility 👍
What a wonderful video , loved the mix and match ideas, ping 2 iron seems extremely accurate for Lester 😉🏌️♂️⛳️🍻
7 wood is a great choice! Got a 5 wood and 7, then into 5 hybrid... working really well! Lester will be back to +1 in no time!✂️✂️
Great content guys. Definitely need a gap test and this is helpful for I do get one done. Cheers. 👍

I play a Nike SQ 7 wood. Carry about 210-220.
Really like it, give high launch and lands softly.
Good video !!

I did the exact same thing. I added a 21 degree hybrid and a 2 iron to blend in with my 4 iron and 16.5 3 wood.
Lester goes, "Back to the Future"!
I thought that it was only "God & Hogan" that could hit a 2Iron, we now have to add Lester to the list.
Wow that Ping Zing 2 iron, amazing, looks like something Phileas Fogg would have played with. 😂
Lester, it does appear nothing has changed since you were 12 and that comes across in your vids. Its why they are so good ! Nice Trigger's broom reference, this time next year Rodney ! Wow! I've got 4: driver, 3w, 19* hybrid and 24* hybrid. What are your 6?
I carry a driver, 3w, 5w, 4-6 hybrids. All are perfectly gapped. Old man set! LOL

You should try a MP 18 hifli in a 2 iron
Just goes to show all this new tech and you go back to a 20-year-old ping go Lester our hero.
i've got that same Pin Zing 2 in the 1 iron. Never hit it well. Only bought it after losing my Tommy Armor 845 1 iron which hit really well.
Striking them really well 👍 I definitely need to make time to practice more... ⛳ it's getting a bit embarrassing 🤦♂️
I've always carried a 7 wood instead of a 3 iron. So next week will you be sorting out his driver?
Good stuff Lester will get the 230 yard shots in there no problems now
Ping Zing 2’s were my first ‘proper’ set of irons. I’m 32 so they were already old at the time. Very chunky but I still wish I had held onto the 3 iron! This is possibly my favourite video ever 😂😂😂
Bloody good clubs 👍
I play a mavrik max 3wood, a mizuno clk 2020 19° hybrid and a mavrik pro 23° hybrid....
With this set up i got a preety good gapping for me 😜

Love this 👍
My old man was a good county player in his day still plays good now hes had a callaway steelhead 3 5 7 wood set in his bag for over 20 years lol
Excellent fun and interesting. What’s Lester doing with his driver and putter??
Changing them weekly 😂
Hahaha.
Lester is clearly a very very good player. But would be interesting for me to hear his driver views, as in what’s running around in his head about a club he can clearly hit well but is doubting now, as I always think I need a new driver when I’m playing like a donkey.
I'm messing around with a Sonartec ss 2.5 7 wood vs a 62° vokey as my 14th club...
I love my ping 7 wood go to club carry’s the same as 5 wood but lands softer

Best 5 wood in golf 😉
Considered a standard length cobra utility?

Funny you say that because I spotted him in the studio trying a 5 wood out this week 👍
@@DanHendriksenGolf nice one! Channel’s going great. Keep up the good work both of you 👍🏼👍🏼
With those calves I'm not surprised he's ripping that 2 iron. Phil Mickelson may be calling Lester for his workout program 💪🏼
Lol, even Lester commented on his calves 😂
I had a set of Ping Zing 2’s. Still the best set of irons I ever owned.

Ken, I have a Ping Eye Two 1 iron, beryllium copper.
Can't use it now though. Maybe I should try putting with it?
I’m thinking a 19 degree Speedzone hybrid would be a good fit.
As a replacement for the one-length 4 iron.
With gapping at the bottom end of the bag, where do you stand with the lie of wedges? If I’m 2 upright should my wedges be 2 upright? I’ve heard some people lessen the lie due to shots being not often ‘full’ ones.
I like to have mine a little flatter due to the softer shots delivering lower hands which is common with most golfers 👍
I have similar clubspeed / ball speeds to Lester, and I go from a 24 degree Mizuno HMB 5 iron, which for me carries 197, which I use a slightly lighter shaft than my other irons with DG 120 gram S300, a Steelfiber i110. Great choices, boy he's hitting it well at the moment!
What about the big stick?
That’s next 😂
@@DanHendriksenGolf Excellent, look forward to that 👍
put a new 7 and 5 wood in my bag and took them to a freezing range and could not get off the the tee box, Have to wait for better weather and cloths
Just goes to show Ping don't really make a bad club :)
5W? 225-230 and then 7w or 2I depending on course makes more sense to me
Me to 👍
I think Lester made his own mind up here, not sure he really wanted your input or not 🤔
Why does his hybrids always go left?
I have a theory and will do a video
Keep the 7 wood. The 2 iron grooves are illegal.
Really? 🤷🏻♂️ what too much or too little spin?
@@DanHendriksenGolf I thought they had square grooves and were banned a few years ago. I may be wrong, though.
Well remembered, I think that was the Ping Eye 2, my brother Paul had them and had them sent back to be sorted. Think the legal ones had a + stamped on them?
2024 I think they become illegal for amateurs
