I'm currently building an MG Phenex! But I bought it preowned off eBay with parts missing and tons of damage, so I'd have no conflicts about stripping the gold coating off. Repaired it using spare parts from other Unicorn kits, bought a third party set of NT Ver tails, gonna be painting it to hopefully look like the RG version. It's a looooong process but I'm hoping it ends up nice looking.
The HGUC Re-GZ is a sick kit, one of my favorite high grades, full inner frame on the legs to boot, very nice shoulder joints. Thankfully that scratched the itch and saved me from having to go for the MG
Looking back I'm so glad I never bought the MG Phenex, cuz my god I came close a few times. I'm a huge, HUGE fan of the Unicorn bros, and I rly wanted this guy in my collection at 1/100. Now it's just a waiting game until the MGEX, which I wiLL buy regardless of how absurd that pricetag is bound to be
Of these that I've built, I must agree with your evaluation of the physalis, that gundam is in dire need of a 2.0. Then again, so is literally every MG from that line
@@jabman025 Gundam GP03S and FA-78-1 Full Armor Gundam. Going back to one of your previous videos, I actually called it on 4 out of 5, as I mentioned Full Armor Gundam OR Deep Striker.
Victory Ver Ka is by far my fave kit of all time. If its a hand grenade you built it wrong. I've demonstrated multiple times that it's solid at every point of its transformation if built correctly. So I call this categorically false. As for posing its limited around the torso but thats about it. The hips give you what you need and it can pull off the best crouch that I've seen on an MG. I can provide you with the evidence if you'd like.
Out of all of these five kits I would still choose to buy the Phenex. I think it’s one of my top 10 favorite Gundam designs. Yes it’s expensive but not as expensive as the Real Grade for some reason.
MG Deep Striker was originally planned to be a P-Bandai release, but the suits thought it was a good idea to make a regular release over something else that ended up on the Webshop. They should have made MG Deep Striker a Webshop release, and made one of those other MGs a regular release. My shop took a bath on MG Deep Striker and hell aint ordering more for what it is.
Good choices. Half-surprised GP03 didn't make the list. I guess its problems are largely the same as the GP02's. It just does not hold its accessories well.
Victory is fine, yeah it is hard to pose since there's no waist movement, and the transformation is a pain, but it still looks good and you can get it into like 5 decent poses

MSA-0011[Bst] Plan303E Deep Striker 05. RGZ-91 Re-GZ To be fair, the MG RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis" came out in 1998 so you can't expect much from it; especially not these days. The same can be said about MG RGZ-91 Re-GZ that came out in 2001, but at least with that you can get the improved variant the MG RGZ-91B Re-GZ Custom which is probably more popular anyway since (from reading the Wiki), it says it was intended to be used by Amuro Ray. The MG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam 03 Phenex is just part of the problematic line of MG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam variants. I suspect we will eventually get an MGEX version of all of the variants. So for now, fans would be better off getting the RG and/or the PG releases. The LM312V04 Victory Gundam is just one that they never got quite right from the reviews I've seen. Most people have at least a handful of complaints. Maybe that's why Bandai never made an RG? But at least there's the HGs which I hear is the least problematic and currently has a complete line up of variants that includes: LM312V04 Victory Gundam LM312V04+SD-VB03A V-Dash Gundam LM314V21 Victory 2 Gundam LM314V23/24 Victory 2 Assault-Buster Gundam Second V You can't expect the MSA-0011[Bst] Plan303E Deep Striker to do much at all other than being big. I mean the thing is HUGE.
I don't know if others think this but the basic unicorn is one of the most boring designs, even in it's own universe the sinanju team the banshee almost all of them look better. To me it looks like a white GM with a commander horn that turns into a basic white gundam
I still argue the Re-Gz isn't that bad, sure it's a brick kit whose transformation mechanic is jank to nonfunctional, but it's still not the worst kit I've ever built. the GP-01FB still holds that title as an utter grenade kit, you breath on it wrong and it falls apart, the transformation is not very good at all and the detail is garbage on a kit that could look so great with a 2.0. Sadly I doubt we'll ever get a 2.0 GP-01 or GP-02, a shame.
I'd say of all these the Victory Ver Ka is... fixable. If you really like the Victory as a design, which I do, and want a good project kit, it's worth building, provided you get it for its retail price. It's never going to be very posable, it IS all the things you said, and I don't even think it can be done all that much better as a kit, just because of the way the transformation has to work and the size of the model itself makes certain elements extremely thin and weak as a result (arm frame in particular). Really I'd want a 2.0 of it to be a partsformer just to allow for better stability. But it can be made to be more solid, to hold a pose and sit there looking good, which is what I wanted out of it. You need to thicken all the ball joints, you need to glue certain armor bits, you really should just remove the waist's transformation capability entirely for the sake of stability, but it can be elevated from hand grenade to a real looker even if it's not ever going to be doing super dynamic poses, particularly if you have it using some of the bulkier weapons from the Core Booster addon set.
I was fortunate to see a copy of the Victory Ver Ka built and standing in a display case at a local hobby store, it looked super sharp, I was glad I got to see it in person because I will probably never, ever put myself through building that thing.
one of the worst aspect of the mg gp02 that ive seen from reviews are the arms. the upper arm joint is just bad. who even thinks using ball to pc joint to connect arm to shoulder is a good idea, on an MG with heavy accessories? its so old it doesnt even have inner frames in the limbs. the mg gp02 desperately needs a 2.0

Love your gundam reviews, it has an old school vibe into it. Keep up the good work!

MG Phenex is the best, if u want to throw your sanity out of the window.
A no polycap GP02 2.0 could potentially help with holding the shield. As much as I love that design, god it desperately needs a 2.0!
Summary of the video
- old kit
- golden/metallic coating
- delicate transforming kit
- literal brick
Old Hands Bad
Chrome Kits Bad
the kit is too small and overengineered
Ludicrously Expensive Brick

the gp03 I've gotten a lot of feedback from builders saying they have not had the same issues I had, makes me think I just got a bad kit......

I’m quite surprise Jabman didn’t mentioned the MG Delta Plus or the MG Zeta Gundam.
I was so sure that Delta Plus will be on the list
Welp... I already bought and built the Phenex weeks ago... Funny enough, your review helped me prepare for that monstrosity of a build.
I got 4/5. Phenix slipped my mind completely. Number 5 though... oh, did I laugh!

GP02's shield smiles so cutely, but alas...
I actually agree when Jabman said even if you're an expert builder, yeah avoid the damn Phenex
Just avoid the MG Unicorn Gundam kits, except for the MGEX
expert builder would strip the gold and just repaint it~

All I see are souls held back by the weight of gravity
I love you JabMan. But I also love MG ReGZ. It's no ReZEL, but I think its not nearly as bad as Delta Plus
I thought he was gonna tear the re-go a new action base hole
MG Victory is the Mr Glass of Gunpla
Lets have a Moment of silence for those hwo own this kits
I think Mecha Gaikotsu has some of them.
You forgot one thing about the Phenex. It's a finger print magnet lol.
The victory can go burn the whole kit is insane. They fixed a lot with the V2 but even that’s an advance build
Well what you do is you get the Re-GZ Unicorn Version and you've got a decent MG
Jabman025, thanks for the advice. You had me laughing at the last kit.
man I love the Re-Gz, its just a fun kit to mess with.
can you please do review the MG Re GZ custom unicorn version
Thanks for all the kit recommendations lol
How about the regular MG Unicorn or Full armor unicorn?
Well the ReGZ unicorn ver. was somewhat good right?
All GP series deserve 2.0 treatment

Re-GZ: 🤫
I nearly quit Gunpla entirely two years ago after building the MG Phenex. So what amI building now? The PG Phenex NT. I must hate myself.
the pg version is much better..........but you must hate your bank account
Maybe you should try Re-Gz Unicorn Ver. 😁
