  • On this week's episode of The Breakdown, brought to you by Sky Bet, we took a closer look at how INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe will be looking to reset Manchester United.
Do you think Manchester United should stick with Erik ten Hag or do you believe INEOS should bring in their own choice of manager to begin their rebuild?

Ten Hag thought EPL was like Dutch Farmers League and a walk in the park, the physical and quickness aspect of it day in day out has definitely got to the ex Ajax players.
Antony gets brushed off at ease and can’t beat his man more often than not, Bonana is always a fraction too late with his goalkeeping, Lisandro although a warrior just couldn’t keep himself away from the injury table.
Working his team in extreme fitness when their bodies couldn’t cope isn’t going to work. Ten Hag really have to change in his approach and criteria to finding players for transfers but then again he knows no one other than players from the Dutch league…

The first thing that needs to be scrutinised & fixed is the physiotherapy/medical/fitness department; because having this many serious long-term injuries with most of the starting 11 is unacceptable & absurd! Someone is either overworking their players, mistraining them, or just not helping them recover well. It’s pitiful that we’re relying on Evans…
Also, we sign far too many players from different leagues. United always used to sign top players from the PL or promote from the academy, with an occasional international signing. Players like Carrick, Keane, Cantona, Van Persie, Tevez, Berbatov, Cole, Sheringham, Ferdinand, Van Der Sar etc.

It’s not just a question of whether they stick with ETH but more around committing to him, he will 100% be wanting assurance’s that he’s the man for INEOS and an expectation of that is for them to commit to him longer term. He won’t IMO accept them saying let’s go with you next year and see how it goes which is how some seem to think we could move forward - for me if INEOS believe he’s the right coach they will have to show him some form of commitment this summer which is going to be extremely difficult given how poor they’ve been this season.
He (ETH) has chances to go to Bayern and back to Ajax both which would give him more in the way of longer than a season and if it comes down to it and United want to stick with him but won’t commit to him he’ll be off anyway.
Nobody knows how INEOS are thinking and I’m not sure even an FA Cup win would be acceptable but again it’s a massive summer at the club BUT I’m heartened by fact we actually have some football people involved now that will make the best decision based on solid experience

Well its completely obvious that our problem was never about the managers and not all about bad players, but more into applied principal or philosophy (or as mentioned in the video, game profile). For all this time, we’ve been focusing on patchy fix rather than structural approach. So I would say keep Ten Hag at least for another season and let him work on more cohesive environment

Ole was the only one playing the Man U way, but that CR7 saga and not having the recruits he had had identified to change from counterattack to being more in control undermined him. All of the lower defensive line problems stem from the injuries. The back up players don’t have the pace the starting IX players have in defense. Licha and Shaw being injured causes a HUGE problem because of the lack of pace. Maguire, Evans and even Varane have shown their lack of ability to fill the space at the back when the rest of the team press high up the field. Ten Hag IN! It will only cause MORE problems to get rid now.

if the structure above the manager is good enough then in theory any manager can be in that structure and do well, but why would you get rid of Ten Hag thats shown that he can win trophies under a structure that was non existent. We all new this would take at least 4/5 seasons to get to a standard were we can challenge.
What's annoying me is that whilst Ineos is still trying to restructure all our competitors are getting better and overtaken us so more catching up to do. I think Ineos are going to realise that the Glazers are tighter than a ducks arse when it comes to money, i wonder if they will continue to leach off the club aswell.

Our way of playing and team structure has clear flaws which is why teams find it so easy to play against us, ten hag must accept responsibility for that and improve going forward if he is to stay. Maybe if he came together with Ashworth and Wilcox and they agreed upon a different way of playing going forward, then I say give him next year, if he doesn't agree he should be replaced.
