    This is an example of the Akita's nature. In Japan, they are called "Kuma-inu" meaning "bear-hound." They are powerful and strong. Not to mention, they are loyal to their masters, wonderful dogs. They really are.

    I had one Akita... he was very protective.
    In one occasion, a stray dog approached me and my akita tackled him but did not bite... He waited to hear from me. I called his name and he let it go. He wasn't a trained dog.
    Had it been my pinscher dog instead, a fight would have definitely started.
    These dogs are awesome. They have self-control unlike many other breeds.

    • @bordone
      @bordone 9 ปีที่แล้ว +39

      I had the same thing happen to me with my Akita. She tackled the stray from behind and held him down till I said to let go. This gave me time to get the kids away from the possible danger. As soon as she let go the stray bolted straight out of my yard and she chased it out but didn't leave the yard. Its amazing what naturally comes to them. No greater dog for protection period!

    There's nothing that winds me up more than those who say Akitas are dangerous dogs. Mine is 3 years old now, the biggest softest teddy bear you have ever come across, loves every dog, human, child, couldnt hurt a fly. He's had jack russels clamp onto his cheeks and not even reacted because there isnt an aggresive bone in him, he's had plenty of little dogs attack him and just nudges them off, with his size and power he could disable them within seconds but he doesnt. They're what you make them!

    To the person who said there are no bears in Japan (where the breed originates). Yes, there are certainly no bears in Japan. That's why the Japanese Black Bear is called the Japanese Black Bear, it's clearly french. Now if the breed was bred to fight bears I have no idea, but don't stay stuff like that without knowing because, there are in fact, bears in Japan.

    • @kaileym4322
      @kaileym4322 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem at all. A lot of people tend to forget Japan has a huge diverse range of species within it's boundaries, some of which is found nowhere else. They just think of Tokyo and tend to forget that 1) there are more countrysides than cities and 2) plenty of animals find it completely livable in urban environments anyway.
      Have a nice day.

    Cont. - This particular lineage is the Tosa/Mastiff as they are considerably larger than the Japanese Akita which is larger than a GSD. You do see GSD/Akita mix but they don't look right and are smaller. Goku is an amazing character but I researched 9 months on the breed prior to purchase as they are not pets. They are pack animals that require respect and personalities vary massively. Can be very dog/stranger aggressive, extremely protective and should never be off a lead.
