Hi! It is very possible to have the same problem, one of the ignition coil may not work and you may run in one cyclinder sometimes. F700GS can not sustain idle in one cyclinder. But with a little throttle, you can even start in one cyclinder, as I did. It can also be the stepper motor for idle, and also it can be one broken idle intake hose. However, I expect to be ignition coil. You can try to extract one ignition coil and try to start the engine in one cyclinder. By doing so on the same cylinder, you can see if the engine does not start with which coil... To see if one is broken. Mine started like this with the left coil only. But I tried 3-5 times to crank with throttle open at half.
I think you need OEM tool for diagnostics... On r1200gs I can do it via an Android diag tool, and bluetooth OBD... But on 700gs it is a BMW OBD socket...
The same issue with my 2009 F650GS 800cc. Based on your experience, I have ordered the coils. Let's see if the issue will be solved.

The issue wasn't fixed with the coils. Had to change the timming chain. Only with the new chain the problem dissapeared.

@@steep9226 mine was getting hiccups over hard acceleration. That was happenning mostly when engine was hot...
