Many people are pointing out i am not saying Zastava incorrectly......In 2004 i was injured in iraq and only have 40 percent of my hearing. One of the side effects is i cannot hear myself pronounce words. I tend to say unfamiliar words (such as the names of foreign manufacturers) incorrectly. Im sorry if my disability is inconvenient for you.

I manage a retail gun store. We sell the hell out of Zastavas, and i own a couple myself. I think the reason why people like myself like them is because a lot of us just want a good looking AK that we dont have to worry about breaking. Theyre beefy, they look good, the fit and finish is great, sights are straight, they have optics mounts on them, and weve never had a quality issue brought to our attention. They sell great, and i recommend them to basically everybody that walks in wanting an AK.

After trying many different countries, I settled on Zastava for 7.62x39 and 5.56 as they work without issue out of the box and don't show excessive wear for me. Bulgarian and Polish in 5.45 built from original unissued kits have been great as well. Others I had to mess with or even had to take apart and put back together correctly. A lot of people hang enough stuff off an AR to end up heavier than an M70 with TWS top cover and optic.

There are pictures of Bulgarian milled guns that beat themselves to death with the originally installed parts. Bulgarian milled guns are also big stupid and heavy. My Sam has a canted gas block to this day that won’t let the bolt carrier go all the way forward and when it does it smashes the receiver. If you take everything he says as truth, then you are basically left with a wasr-10 or sar-1. He doesn't care for the wbp because they are commercial, he "hates" zastava for being heavy, impractical, and "junk" and i don't don't see any videos of his where he actually test the rifle to prove these points. I have yet to see an issue with wbp, there are some posts on zastava rifles, however the majority of issues were from previous imports which were admittedly garbage. If price isn’t an issue buy a M70 so that it doesn’t look like Edward Scissorhands put it together like the WASR.
On the M90, I have used AC Unity 556 mags, AK74 plumbs & bakes mags with Pod Arms followers, as well as the Zastava mags so I’m a little confused as to the point of proprietary magazines. Are you meaning 5.56 AK mags in general?
Finally, I have competed at Kcon and have first round hits at 400 & 575 yards in competition so I don’t feel accuracy is an issue.

J.K. I dont like em much either. My biggest issue with new Zastavas are the hideous billboard-sized lawyer markings on the right side of the receiver. Does "READ OWNERS MANUAL BEFORE USE" really need to be stamped into the receiver in 20 point font right where its most visible? FFS Zastava, just give us an M70 clone with proper furniture. Why cant any former combloc factory just give us the clone correct military models we want?

I mean if you’re arguing practicality, there’s no reason to. Everyone knows they’re not practical, but they’re fun and they’re a good workhorse rifle. Everyone knows if you live in the US, a DI gun reins supreme… but that doesn’t mean you can’t buy and shoot something that you think it neat. I love my M90 a lot and it’s the softest shooting rifle I own.

Weird video. M70 is a decent weapon and reasonably priced. Why not go off on the Arsenals, which are way over priced in comparison? Arsenal performance is not measurably better in any way, based on my personal experience with my guns.
I have both the new M70 and the M92. The M92 has poor accuracy, and poorly tuned gas system when compared to the M70. It's and ok SBR, but not apples-to-apples comparison.
As far as bolt carrier wear, I have the ALG in my M70 and a Tapco in my M92. The M92 has mushroomed with much fewer rounds than the M70. The heat treat/hardness on the M70 bolt carriers looks to be done right. At least on these new ones.
And the weight of the M70 with its gas system makes it the most pleasurable AK to shoot out of my collection - which the exception of my ban era Vepr-K, which was like butter, but ridiculously heavy, and which I recently sold.
My experience with these guns does not align with any of this video.

I bought one of the new M77’s in .308 to make a combloc DMR of sorts. The short stock combined with the siderail towards the rear made it to where I couldn’t find a scope with short enough eye relief to be comfortable. To top it off the best accuracy I could get from it was 1.7ish with 175 grain Federal Match ammo. However it is a very nice looking rifle, has been very reliable, is actually fairly light for a .308 ‘battle rifle’ and I just can’t bring myself to sell it; so I put a MRDS on it and use it that way.

What is your opinion on galil ace series? (Gen one and Gen two). They're expensive yes but they've always struck me as what the AK-12 series should've been. The gen 1's been used for military use as small scale acquisitions and as a service rifle. I'd like to know your opinion since MSRP is like 2000 (though you can find them on gunbroker NIB for like 1500), but in my opinion its the best optic mounting solution ever devised for AK platform. It seems to never lose zero (though reassembling it can be a pain!).
Practically, you're right: I fail to see any standard AK that's not a WASR that doesn't have some sort of improved mounting solution (galil ACE, AK-12, WBP Fox) be any better than a WASR. It's a great value AK for what it is (do I believe they should be going for current MSRP though? HA).

  • @ShootAUT
    @ShootAUT 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    Alright, fair enough. Good reasoning.
But in regards to ALG triggers:
In my opinion, it's the trigger manufactuerers fault. Those things beat up AKs from multiple good manufacturers, not just Zastavas. To me, that means that ALG ultimately goes too far regarding toughness and longevity of their own product, while seemingly disregarding the machine they make that product for.
I'm sure they mean well, but with every machine you have to work within certain specs, if you build parts for it. If your parts end up regularly hurting the machine more than it should, your parts are out of spec - it's that simple to me.
Which makes your argument sound a bit like, "Even a tank isn't built like a tank, because AP ammo can still penetrate it in certain spots."
No offense, just my 2 cents.
And yes, I'm aware that building AK parts "to spec" is a lot like trying to build one oil filter that fits and works with _every_ car.

    Yes it IS heavy.
    Thanks for the info/perspective.
Not a ZAS fan-boy, but relatively happy with the one I own.
Ive a ZAS M85NP 5.56 pistola. 10" barrel. Bought it as a novelty, plus, it was cheap by current AK pricing standards.
Its kinda nice being able to run any regular 5.56 P-Mags/Standard AR15 clipazines.
Its riveted polymer magwell addition (with the index finger button style mag-release) is still tight to the receiver in spite of years of abuse n' seeing some heavy usage. I didnt figure it would last all that long though.
Aftermarket co's have a better all aluminum machined/constructed mag-well w/a bolt hold open feature (Texas based Co I believe?)
    Purchased M85NP in 2016 for $500 IIRC.
Drilled/tap'd/epoxied small section of Pic rail on beefier rear sight area for a red dot. Its held tight since 2016.
Kept wood furniture fore-end, installed pic rail for FL/hot button.
Cut the fore-end section off the AKSU74 muzzle booster, to make a linear blast can of sorts.
    Installed/drilled/tap'd/epoxied a USMG shim/stock-brace folder mechanism & Gear Head Works's MOD1C stand-alone, cap-screwed AL brace on 'er.
Designed then Fab'd up an excellent/ergonomic firing hand thumb activated safety selector switch on the receiver's left hand side. REALLY happy with that addition! Im surprised more aftermarket Co's havent jumped on that one as of yet?
Short 1/2 throw. Closes upon pushing >> forward >> with ones thumb. Opens safety/fires by pulling back on it. My initial prototype worked, in spite of having 3 differing designs. Only item modified on 'gon was the left side barrel of OEM safety switch.
YES there IS a little bit of peening on the BC's tail due to an ALG trigger installed sometime in early 2017. Not too bad as to light damage, but certainly not all that good either!
Pretty high round count after installing the ALG (Manufacturers poor heat treatment of bolt carrier perhaps?)
One thing that irk'd me was the chowdered out machine tool mill end they'd used to mill out the cam pathway for the bolt within the bolt carrier itself.
Everything still functioned fine, but My GAWD?!...SUPER-POOR machining practices!
Mill ends are rather CHEAP. -C'mon n'ah Zastava?!
I'd fixed the issue by lightly smoothing out those horrendous 'peaks n' valleys' using a dremel & small diameter stone end bit.
    Enjoy your New Year dude...

What good is a 2k x39 paperweight if you can’t go to the local store and buy ammo?

I picked up one of the Zastava N-PAP underfolders some years back when they were around $700. It's my beater rifle. I usually keep it stuffed between the handlebars and the bin I keep strapped to the front racks on my ATV. While I like it well enough for that purpose, I probably wouldn't buy another one. The amount of spit and polish that had to go into it to make it even cycle reliably was ridiculous. Lapped all the rail surfaces with valve grinding compound, fully polished the underside of the bolt carrier, the face of the hammer and the sear surfaces, and even did some reshaping work on the front wood to make it a little less boxy in the hand. The trigger out of the box felt like it was faced in sandpaper, and it took me probably ten hours of tinkering with it before I got it to a nice two-stage feel. The front trigger pin constantly wants to walk out, even with the retaining wire properly seated. It's a chunky, clunky rattletrap of a thing. I'd still rather take it out deer hunting in the rain than any of the rifles I actually like, but that's no ringing endorsement. That said, it was in a house fire and ended up a solid chunk of rust after ten days locked in a gun safe that had been directly blasted with a fire hose. I knocked it all apart and dumped the metal parts in a tub of concrete rust stain remover (hydroflouric acid). That stripped all the rust off, leaving the manganese phosphate coating a dull gray in color, and I put it all back together like normal. She's run fine even after that.

I own two Zastava AKs, one M90MP (when Century Arms imported them) and one M70. They're unnecessarily heavy. Machining is rough in comparison to Polish, Bulgarian, or Russian AKs. The parkerization Zastava has historically used isn't the best against rust in humid climates, and both Polish and Russian bluing is superior as a finish by far (Bulgarian finish is well-known to be ass). Despite these reservations, my M90NP is far and away the most accurate AK I own or ever owned. But I'll still take anything else in a pinch.

I own a M70 but I still agree with everything you said. It is heavier, it is beefier, it’s not as accurate as my Arsenal was, and it’s pricier than other options. But having owned Century products before, I would never buy one again. I loved my Arsenal, but I was able to sell it at a profit that I could not pass up. So, due ti it’s durability, the M70 has become my AK of choice.
Using a cost/benefit approach, why not buy a $400 Andro AR-15 that delivers sub MOA performance instead of an $1800 Daniel Defense rifle? It’s a valid question. Today’s marketplace has some very interesting options in it and each person gets to decide what they personally like. As long as you can hit the target with whatever you chose when the time makes it necessary to do so, you’ve done just fine. All the rest of it is just opinions, which each of us are entitled to. Rock on.

I had an old DCI Yugo M70AB2 kit build many years ago and it was one of the worst AK's ive ever had lol. It soured my taste on Yugo guns tbh. Also, you're right about the weight. It blew my mind how heavy it was the first time I ever picked it up lol.

To each their own. I like mine. Solid, reliable, most likely won’t break, durable. To say they won’t work past 300 is just ignorant, willfully ignorant. As good as other calibers, no, but definitely can do it. Ignore this guy.

@ plenty of people get hits further than that. It was never meant to further, but it can. Depends on what you are using it for. As a long range hunting caliber, then no. As a sniper caliber, then no. As a battle rifle/self defense/medium hunting range caliber, then yes. All AK’s are heavy. The hate on the ZPAP is just asinine. You have your right to your opinion, but people should disregard it, because it is demonstrably false. On this subject, you are just wrong. Not even a defensible position.

hi, Im trying to re-orient my focus on "what's important". I see your argument of 7.62x39 being 7.62x39 and most limitations in range come from that (makes 100% sense). What about accuracy in higher priced guns? I remember Brandon had a video where they tested a pioneer arms against an Arsenal, and at 100y in the stock configurations & iron sights on a led sled the Arsenal had a 1.2 MOA group, while the pioneer arms shot 9.4 MOA grps at a 100y, effectively making it unusable at that distance. Is this something you consider when looking at brands? We here locally f.e. have Chinese NEDI guns for 350.- but nobody likes to use em for exactly that reason. Would love to hear your thoughts :) & Thanks for the honest content!
