Serious note - I'd take the AD10 for EDC but I'd rock the 4 Max for outdoors. In fact, I prefer fixed blade for outdoors with a folder back-up.

Cold Steel's Aus-10a is such a great steel. The few CS knives that I had that were Aus-10a, held up so unbelievably great. Cold Steel always does a great job with their heat treating. Even their 8cr13mov holds up better than their competitors 8cr13mov. Great video once again Jimislash. 4-Max Scout for the win.

The 4MAX as an outdoor, if I had to choose, but that AD10 is a great one.
Either one is good for the outdoors.. AD10 light/edc version 4MAX heavy version.👍👍

Don’t have an AD-10 but my 4-MAX scout is a beast. Love it. AD-10 looks almost like a smaller version.
It's smaller in some areas. The circumference of the grip doesn't seem smaller. Still an awesome knife.
Good observation. I saw an interview with Andrew Demko. He said the 4 Max was supposed to be an AD-10 XL, but the handle didn’t scale up well, so he designed a new handle for it. The blade is just a 4” version of the AD-10 blade.

i love when folks tell me a knife weighs to much , i was a raised carrying a buck 110 in my front pocket of my levis .
that thing had to weigh 8 pounds! i still have that knife, though now i use it as a doorstop on the barn.

I stone washed the blade on my AD10. It is one of my preferred EDC. I love my 4max it's a little big to carry at work "scary" for co workers. The 4max is my going out into the woods carry.
That sounds right. I need a stone wash on my AD10. Good idea.

Three (3) ounces (another Snickers bar) heavier than the 4-Max Scout, but WAY better as a camp knife. It clears brush, it chops wood, it slices food, it fends off the camper in the tent next door who got bitten by a zombie last night!

Id go with the 4-max scout personally, that heftier blade helps a ton. I use a hatchet for most camping type purposes tho

I did it because all the Cold Steel news... What made it hurt so bad was that I just ordered a Kailash blade I'd been saving up for right before the news broke about Cold Steel.
So I had to pick between a AD10 and a AD15.... So I got a 4MAX instead. Haha 😂

I just tested my 4 max scout and I went through 3 inch pine no problems. Plus a 2×4 and the fucking thing is still sharp

I really like your video comparing the 4max scout and AD10, I like the 4max scout better because it's a bigger knife and feels good in the hand. I was actually at a friend's house with my 4max scout, and we had a fire going and I batoned with the 4max scout, my friend said you never split that log in half, and I did it work, never done that before and my 4max scout still sharp not even a mark on it, so yes I'd take it camping, hiking and survival, it's a very tuff knife

S35VN and AUS10 I use any of the guided systems I have. Most of the time a good stropping takes care of what I need to get done.
I'd choose the AD-10 because I need room in my pocket for my candy bars! 😂😂

That 4 max with the aus 10a was suprising that it held up better vs the S35vn. I'm still waiting for my 4max scout running late. Thanks for sharring. Just carious do you sharpen your own knives?.

@@scottysurvival I use a KME. Before that I used a Spyderco Sharpmaker. I do some stuff on stones, but I'm not that good. I can get the blades to be hair popping sharp, but they're wonky looking. :)

Had the Scout in my pocket for some time now, but couldn’t withstand the urge of buying my 3rd AD10 last week...
What I’m trying to say is, even after carrying and (lightly) using the Scout, I still have a preference for the AD10 (beter materials, best fit in hand, lovely style, great finish), be it a very little preference...
AD10 is sweet. I understand that multiple knife urge.

I have an AD10 coming for $123. I have an 10A in a Voyager with a 5.5 clip point blade that I got in the $60s.

It's like comparing a Cadillac to a pickup truck. I have the hollow grind/OG version of the AD10 so it slices better. Use my Drop Forge survival for chopping.

Very few, if any, reviewers mention handle width/thickness. It looks thinner from the videos and pics but is the 4-Max Scout's handle as thick as the AD10? Thanks.

I think I would go with the 4 max scout. Better texture on the handle, and aus10 is fairly easy to sharpen in the field. Plus, it seems to have a little more chopping power, in case one of those armadillos tries to exact vengeance.

4 Max has my vote. Have both knives. AD10 feels more chunky and out of balance in "my hand" than 4 Max Scout. Both great knives. For finer cutting AD10 wins for me but blade is ground thinner. Heavy duty work especially on defensive aspect 4 Max Scout is what is in my pocket.

I didn't know which one to go for. Until now. I'd go for the 4 Max Scout. Also; because, I only have 2 Cold Steel folders.

How much you spending? You can't beat the American Lawman as an edc.
I agree. The American Lawman is hard to beat. My first was a Recon 1 with the Clip point. Also very hard to beat.

You can find an airlite around that price. It is a strong light weight great edc.
Take a look at the SR1 lite! It doesn't get more Cold Steely than that when on a budget. Beast of a blade with the ultra-strong Tri-ad lock.

How can you say that about the steels? S35VN didn't last better in the short run.
I saw a video before (or maybe it was an article I don't remember) where they tested some steels and I remember that s35 didn't stay shaving sharp for very long but it stayed in that "pretty sharp" zone for a long time. Maybe you're right though since I haven't heard anything bad yet about aus 10

I have both the 4 Max Elite and the Scout. While one probably isn't much better than the other , I still prefer the Elite for its more premium materials. That's the knife snob in me I suppose

cold steel aus10 is close to cos and it beat d2 154cm and doubled vg10 in knife test cutting rope.

4 Max Scout because it is a monster and is a great deal.

Nice job... the SR1 is my camp knife. Chose it over the AD10 because It has a little longer 90 deg spine area for striking a fero rod. It replaced a mora bushcraft and schrade full tang for this role... no regrets. Fixed blades are illegal to conceal in my state, so I wanted a strong folder for this reason. no complaints at all with the SR1.
