KNOWLEDGE
/w gm You can tell that about a dozen goblins have come and gone along the hidden trail, as well as signs of two human-sized bodies being hauled away. (Sur)
/w gm More than five hundred years ago, clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human spellcasters allied themselves with dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge called the Forge of Spells, where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby town of Phandalin prospered as well. But disaster struck when bandits swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path. (His)
/w gm A powerful bandit force reinforced by evil mercenary wizards attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and knowledge of the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost. (His)
/w gm The blue lion is the symbol of the Lionshield Coster which would likely provide a reward for the return of their supplies. (His)

There's a "Road to Phandalain" on DM's Guild that expands the beginning of this adventure for either Lost Mine or Phandelver & Below. I find that this works much better to tie characters better to the adventure and what they're doing.
I'm going to be running this campaign at a table for some coworkers/friends soon, first time DMing. This series will help out greatly. Thank you!
You're welcome! Have fun!
Good rewind of the session:)
Thank you!
Really nice advice and insight, great recommendations also , I love James Webster their art is awesome, thanks a lot 🥰💙
You are so welcome!
So this may be more of a Roll20 question than a campaign question, but what is that toolbar on the top of the Roll20 page that you use to quickly click on what you need?! It really seems to speed things up!
This video shows how I do that: th-cam.com/video/-8PxCgP0O5k/w-d-xo.html
There are links to that and similar videos in the description of most of my videos in case you want to check any of the other ones out!
Hey there, about to start running the campaign myself, but can only find heroic maps for the first 4 chapters. What are you using for the 'new' maps?
Hi Joey. I am using maps from the adventure. Heroic maps should be adding theirs for chapters 5+ sometime. I used a preview set from them for Chapter 5.
Do The Night Below!
That was a great campaign!
I thought this wasn't coming out till the 19th.
You can get early access if you purchase through the WotC/DNDBeyond store.
I applied darkvision rules as written, and my party got owned by the gobbos.
In which encounter? They are all dangerous at level one 😀
@@d20play they were trying to tackle the cave after the ambush. I'm afraid I've disappointed them but at the same time it ought to make them better at learning how to apply the rules of the game and tackle its different challenges. They are new and enthusiastic players, and it leads them to ignore a lot of information and rules, especially regarding actions like help, disengage etc. I hope that they learn from the experience and come back stronger. And clear the cave this time 😛
Don't be too hard on yourself, that is one hard level 1 adventure!
I'm a player currently in Phandelver and I know I shouldn't be here.
However I'm pretty sure my DM is trolling us (hiding rolls, admitting they are adding HP to enemies when it isn't necessary etc), and making it far harder than it has to be at any given point when we only have like 2.5 players. (I am a relatively new player)
I joined second session, first session everyone was TPK'd by goblins. It's been hell, like the vietnam of dnd campaigns. I kinda hate this module.
I hope it gets better for you!
you're right you shouldn't be here it's all spoilers
but if you need combat advice
goblins are small so grapple an sunder weapon work wonders (bring rope and you can hog tie them if you love prisoners)
if you can sneak up on them and grapple you can cover the mouth to prevent them from shouting for help and casting spells
mules cost 8 gold so you can buy an train animals for combat on the cheap cheap
mount a mule lance for double damage and overrun to prone the little guys
lance gives you reach 10 feet and your shield can be used to bash anything within 5 feet (10 foot opportunity strikes)
flask of oil and tindertwig are also cheap
it counts as a touch attack and have a 15DC Dex Save or lights target on fire (1d6 every round)
+ everything around them is on fire (they have to exit the space fall prone and role on the ground to put themselves out)
mounts can be used as cover so you get to use that extra 3D8 HD
you have options and using just a few of these tactics can make even a level 1 player feel like a level 10
@@zug-zug I did do pretty well against the nothic by being clever (took grappler and then put it in a full nelson and gouged its eye out), then the dm gave it a necklace of fireball... we actually had to talk him down lol. but somehow the zombies in the ruins near the venom dragon had a cannon and blew up their own house lol. Is that normal?
@@ryanflorian2047 I did grapple the goblin and it outgrappled me. I have grappler and am a barb. That was my first idea, and it sorta worked but i got k.o'd Lmao. I have been grappling just about everything. But i appreciate the advice.
@d20play Ok I'll delete the comment then, but to me this is very far from my perception of what the word "dm tips" mean. Sponsored or not you are mostly talking about stuff you can buy, almost no tips on how to dm the chapter.
