    Some people have thought at the end that I'm calling for Left Unity, this isn't the point I was trying to get across. The point is to take politics seriously, BRG at the end talks about how more privileged people flip between ideologies, Why? Because we can. We don't have the monkey breathing down our neck, so we can treat politics more like a game where we can sit back and idealise great socialist societies, instead of something that will result in a violent bitter revolution in which thousands will die, in which an aftermath where people will not get all the boons of socialism delivered to them immediately, where people will continue to want to destroy our society by any means necessary.
    As I say I've grown cynical as time's gone on, somehow I just can't imagine a revolution happening in Britain or America until numerous other countries have achieved it, I just get the feeling that as a society as of present, we're just not serious enough about how this is all gonna go down.

      I mean, Portugal is for me the greatest example, since even with its massive colonies (massive in comparison with its territorial size that is), it had the worst standard of living in Europe, safe for perhaps Albania
      Just for you having an idea, in 1974, which was the year when our dictorship ended, we had the biggest illetarcy rate in Europe, and the majortiy of the population had still just the 3rd or 4th grade finished.

      @@garrett9945 I certainly have. But my own experience doesn't really mean anything. It's anecdotal. Infighting is a fairly large epidemic. Just look at the California Red Guard which disbanded recently. There was another time semi-recently where anarchists defaced a building a ML organization was using. These are just examples, but I think it's an understatement to say it doesn't really happen.

    • @comradesoros2681
      @comradesoros2681 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@garrett9945 What exactly do you mean? It usually happens due to fundamental differences in the approaches of Marxists and anarchists. Certain anarchist groups will sometimes refuse to cooperate with Marxists who they see as supporters of a genocidal state capitalist/red fascist machine (the USSR) which created a new ruling class which oppressed the workers. And Marxists will refuse to work with anarchists, seeing them as naïve, ideologically weak, childish, too bourgeois, revisionists, etc.
      There's also ideological splits between left communists and the rest of the left. Leftcoms tend to see revolution as something which cannot be brought about by workers, and for this other Communists will call them arm chair socialists.
      In addition, identity politics is probably the second largest cause of conflict following behind Marxist Vs. anarchist infighting. "Idpol" (short hand for identity politics) is an issue which transcends ideological dogmatism. Factions of anarchists and Marxists alike will denounce it for being bourgeois and counter productive to the class struggle. Supporters of Idpol however, claim that Idpol is NOT antithetical to class struggle as it merely promotes the well being of discriminated minorities and groups.
      There's also a constant war between Liberalism and Socialism where Socialists will tend to term things that represent bad traits of contemporary society as Liberalism. So Socialists are always trying to root it out. Even when it means excluding groups of workers who were raised in racist and mysoginistic environments from joining the struggle and in the process learning more about the things they think they are against.
      Sectarianism is how it happens.

    Man, I used to watch Alex Jones and that's how I got into politics. Jones introduced me to Stefan Molymeme and eventually Stefan did a debate with a communist. Which convinced me to read the Communist Manifesto. From there I became a hardcore Christian Commie. I saw Capitalism as an affront to the gospel and became increasingly disgusted by society. Eventually I found the Finnish Bolshevik who really flipped my world view on its head. For awhile after that I was a hardcore tankie. But Socialism or Barbarism helped me understand the need for left unity. And now I'm an anti-sectarian ML. Crazy thinking back on it all and how far I've come.

      So does the Right, idiot. And does the Left really want to change things? More of the same expansion of government power, more of the same cultural and moral degradation masquerading as progress while taking away humanity's Kantian entitlement to self-ownership and self-determined destiny. More lies about the impossibility of objectivity based upon a Marxist and postmodern view of man and language as completely contextually determined, in spite of arguments to the contrary made by C. S. Peirce in the 19th century. It is surprising how much modern economic and philosophical lunacy was refuted in the 19th century, and yet the "change" sought by the Left has pushed its sophistry so far as to so completely command the mainstream as to benefit whatever bunch of bureaucrats are whining about their associated special interest group today. Normie libtards and commie wannabe crims are all culpable for flaws in theory and even more in practice, and I beg that they stop ruining everyone else's lives and brainwashing humanity with the cultural denial of individual responsibility that their ideologies imply and produce. Appreciate your extremely high standard of living before you start fighting for its end; civilisation is a miraculous thing given the evils of humanity. Sure, crony capitalism is shit, but reform should result from theoretical and factual discourse changing the ideas of the intellectual elites who spread ideas among us herds, so that democratic politics tends further in the direction of human liberty and attacking of special interest groups privileged by government power. Challenge every single belief you have, ESPECIALLY your value judgments. If you think something is wrong or have definitions of wrong and right, ask yourself why, and then why to that, and so forth. The starting point of your liberation from your indoctrination is philosophy; "The oracle at Delphi says I am the wisest man in all of Athens. It is because I am the only man in Athens who knows that I know nothing."

If you are feeling susceptible to these kinds of ideas I can assure you that you will not get anywhere with them if you're genuinely interested in the liberation of humanity.

    Interesting video dude! I was apolitical until I became a Jordan Peterson fan in 2017 as a 17 year old. Before that I was a philosophical pessimist. I was reading Ligotti, Schopenhauer etc. But then Jordan's stuff gave me a sense of meaning and purpose. Politically I was a soc dem, but held anti-feminist views due to his influence. He was always talking about how monstrous Marx, Foucault and others are and since I've always read much I decided to read for myself. I discovered that a lot of what Marx said made sense. A lot of what Foucault wrote made sense. It became apparent to me that Jordan had lied and that he had not read these thinkers himself. I abandoned Jordan's bullshit and became a leftist. Reading Naomi Klein, Judith Butler, Mark Fisher, Stokely Carmichael, Silvia Federici, Rosa Luxemburg, Frantz Fanon etc. I became a radical leftist, at first denouncing socialism that actually existed, but later on discovering the tremendous good in those places even with all their flaws. Michael Parenti has certainly been very important for me and reading studies and watching leftist youtubers. I wouldnt consider myself a ML, but feel closer to that than to anarchism. Different perspectives on the left have a lot to offer so I just consider myself a communist.

My political engagement began during a pre-crisis period right before the Great Recession; War on Terror, global warming and consumerism were earliest issues around which I formed my political worldviews. In short, my political journey has been like this: liberal nationalist, progressive liberal, left liberal, Stalinist/Marxist-Leninist, Titoist, democratic socialist, social democrat, left-communist, left-libertarian, libertarian socialist, anarcho-primitivist and finally anarcho-communist/eco-anarchist today. Over time I adopted increasingly progressive positions on social issues, from LGBT rights to drug laws. Also, my current political positions aren't strictly limited to single strand of anarchism. I take a lot of my ideas from Libertarian Municipalism and left-wing market anarchism. P.S. Mouse, I had no idea you were as old as I am.

    The ending is 10/10. Often times world views in western cultures have a massive scotomal tumor just ignoring the fact that the convenience of coffee table politics is often argued from a point of physical comfort especially when it comes to modern oppressive views or when someone wants to state their personal firm line on who qualifies to be treated as their equal. How easy it is to switch views when there is food and shelter regardless of the direct, and how much easier to fight wars if there is nothing to personally lose.

    Not entirety dissimilar to me. Never thought much about politics, but I'd been raised in a cultural atmosphere of Blairite neoliberalism, so that's what I was. I was also very much into the new atheism crowd by the time I was 18. Then the crash happened, same year I started working for a bank (my first real job), and after a couple of years I was kind of hating myself for being there. I developed an incoherent but strong anticapitalism, initially informed (I use that word advisedly) by the Zeitgeist films and spurred on by the Occupy movement. I then had a prolonged and confused period of being both anti-capitalist and into anti-SJW stuff, although I never went fully alt right. About 5/6 years ago I started to move away from all that and actually learn some theoretical principles, got into Marx after studying for my Philosophy Masters in 2019, and now I'm very much an unabashed Marxist leftcom.
    Interestingly, I still have a few vestiges of my neoliberalism and anti-SJWism, I sometimes struggle with how incompatible those views are and which ones should win out. We're all learning all the time, I guess.
    I've also heard a lot of people with similar stories. I wonder what it is that leads so many people from Harris, post-9/11 Hitchens, Dawkins etc to being Marxists and anarchists and whatnot. I feel a lot of us probably owe our politics to them in some weird way, but I can't put my finger on how.

  • @noahborthwick3231
    @noahborthwick3231 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Never think that you’ve reached the end point of your journey, no matter how old you are. If you believe that that Marxist Leninism is the way to go and that questioning the specifics is ruining the lives of the people you want to help, could this not lead to an ineffective solution? How can a system ever be reformed if it’s ideology is inflexible? Is that not religious in nature? “Don’t question god, it is a sin when he only sacrificed himself to save you. Accept all his teachings and devote your life to saving the world by spreading the good word”
    Never believe that a personality trait you hated from the past is gone just because you know it exists. You must be able to explain why it exists, and make active efforts to avoid it.
    Rebellion is critical when a true injustice is found. But rebellion in any way possible no matter the global impact is not how you create a lasting impact. With each rebellious action you perform, you must have a planned outcome for what exactly will result. Riots may make you feel good, but do they boost the public perception of socialists? They seem to allow the media to create a strawman of what socialists are, and drive people away due to the perception that they are violent, when many may be open to the ideas but want a peaceful way of accomplishing it.
    Thanks for the video. It was very enlightening hearing you perspective.

    "Politics is serious" I feel like this hits especially hard for me since I grew up in a working class family, I never was anything close to a right wing position because I simply saw its effects in day to day life. What likley helped is having a good Social Dem Teacher that pushed a Humanist and empathetic position down my throat and my unwillingness to work 9 hours per day was just a path towards Cooperatives. And I guess thats where I remain today, an Eco Democratic Socialist...
    Also Im not an Anarchist but I feel like that straight jump to Marxism felt like an uninformed decision to me, its like you didnt even look at Anarchist theory at all and were peer presured into an Authoritarian mindset. Kind of sad honestly

It leads to the people owning the property becoming opresive of people who dont have it... And megacorps do bad things... And I always believed that the government should be kept in check to avoid tyranny...
    Thanks for this video, I need to think about those ideas...

    • @JoelRiter

      Thank you. We might still disagree on many points (for now), but your intellectual honesty is what's important. Please watch some more of Bad Mouse and some Libertarian Socialist Rants. They have some great responses to your questions.
      By the way, private property and personal property are two separate things. Private property normally refers to land and manufacturing that is owned by a private entity, whereas personal property are materials owned by an individual. Best way to think about it is the business you work for and your home is private property because it is and can be used to increase capital (or used by the state for such purposes). Personal property would be things like clothes, electronics, land that is not used for capital but used for communal (and individual) sustainment.
      There are others who can go more indepth, but I wish you luck on your journey and hope you can transition to our side, because, time is running out for us and the marketplace of ideas have failed and need more people willing to spread out message openly. Again, thank you for your intellectual honesty nonetheless.
