Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

I have tried everything with my dog to stop him barking on walks. He doesnt respond to praise, rewards, punishment. He goes into wolf mode and just barks like a mad hound. Its really hard to interact with him because he is so small, and to even touch him, I have to literally get right down on the floor.

    • @Edendog
      @Edendog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hey! I predominantly work with small dogs, so I know the pain!
One tip if you’re able is to RUN your pup on walks so that he’s too busy exercising and breathing to focus on other dogs.
If you’re not a jogger you can try very short bursts of running from your home, away a few seconds and right back inside the house. Rest a bit and try again.
If you can do this a few times and really exercise your dog (and you as a side effect 😂) *then* try taking him for a short, relaxed walk immediately after the jog (or sprints).
His excessive energy will hopefully be a bit petered out and he should have an easier time focusing on you and chilling out. He might even be too busy panting to bark 😉
This is also so good for his health and yours!
You can also use other methods like rubbing him while you’re on a scooter, skateboard, bike, whatever helps you to move fast enough to get him really worked out without exhausting you too much.
I know a lot of people suffer from disabilities so this isn’t always possible, but if it is possible it’s really helpful!!
Starting a training walk with a calmer dog works absolute wonders.
If you have another person to help you and access to a staircase you can have one person sit at the top with some treats or food and another at the bottom and call the dog up and down, back up, then back down, giving him a little treat each time and being super revved up and excited. This is a great way to work out a dog if you’re suffering a disability and can’t take the dog for a run.
And of course you can always jog him on a treadmill if you have access to one! My dogs use my treadmill more than I do (and they absolutely love it! 😂)
Just a little burning off of that excess energy and excitement will make your dog much easier to walk, train and work with.

    • @Edendog
      @Edendog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@aprilmorales9283 ANOTHER tip 😌 if getting low down to your dog is too difficult for you, I can share a trick I have my disabled clients use!
But I will say that the very best thing you can do is just learn to squat down quickly to get on your dogs level. If you’re able to do that it won’t be long before it’s natural and easy for you and as a bonus you get some good squat work outs in 😂
But not everyone is able to do that and I totally get that. I work with people that have their physical limitations and that doesn’t mean they can’t find work arounds to help them with their pupper! Sometimes it just takes a little creativity.
One work around is to get and use what I like to call an arm extension (and when dogs are being cheeky I call it the “stick of justice) 😂
Anything long works. I’ve seen people use broom handles and I often recommend a thin, comfortable piece of PVC pipe. You can use a walking or hiking stick. Anything like that.
The use is for it to be like a long extension of your arm. It can be used to gently tap the dog on the shoulder or the hip to get his attention and redirect him to your face.
This is NOT to hit the dog (of course). It works really well, actually, it’s like giving them a tap on the shoulder and it gets their attention.
I train to use the stick by tapping the dog on the shoulder or hip and when the dog looks at me I give him a treat. And repeat. A bunch.
So the tap should be a distraction with a positive association, nothing scary or painful or anything. But if the dog is really focused on something you might need to make the tap firm enough to actually get them to notice. Most dogs are pretty sensitive to it, though, and really only need to see it wave around near them to get them to look at you once you’ve attached a treat to the tap.
Don’t feel like you’ll be rewarding bad behavior if you tap to interrupt something you don’t like. You won’t be encouraging anything bad. It’s a redirection of their attention, it won’t cause any trouble in that respect.
Try calling your dogs name and giving a treat by placing the treat right between your eyes (so the dog will look at the treat) and then moving the treat from there to your dogs mouth.
I have a video about teaching your dog his name, watch that you’ll see what I mean.
Getting your dog to redirect and get his eyes on yours, making eye contact, is the best way to get his attention.
Ever try to give a little kid instructions? If they aren’t looking in your face/eyes while you’re talking you might as well not be talking because they won’t hear anything. You know what I mean?
Dogs are like that, too. Haha. It helps to get them to look you right in the face and eyes when you call their name.
Bonus, researchers found that when a dog looks his owner in the eyes he releases oxytocin (the “hug hormone”) into his bloodstream. This may have positive effects on his behavior, too. Little love boost, if you will.
I hope that helps!! Let me know if it does!

I always have to look outside to see if other people have dogs outside in their backyards, and if they do, i go outside with my dog to do the redirection, and it does work. However, when i tried it on their own one day....it did not work because i was not there beside them redirecting them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Love ur dog and love ur channel.. i would like to share my own opinion on this: I don’t think we should inhibit their desire to bark. They bark for a reason. We can manage and prevent a dog fight but barking is a way of communication. I believe that once we stop framing them as dogs and explore beyond their beings and dig into their emotions and brains.. we won’t be annoyed by their barking and start responding to their language instead of reacting to it. Sending u both peace and ❤️

My dog hates other dogs because when he was really young his dad attacked him multiple times and he tries to attack other dogs just because he looks at them I need help

You're just feeding him nonstop. That might explain what's going on!

what to do when the anxoety is so high level that treats toys or sounds are cmpletely being ignored by the dog? My GSD gets crazy outside but inside he is like a Marine, so perfect, but outside he is a cmpletely dif dog. makes me so ashamed and worried I stopped taking him out and bought a house with a huge backyard instead so he can play with my other dogs. what to do?

Would recommend upstate canine academy videos. What's she's doing is a start but not sustainable. The palm in dogs face is standard for "no" hand signal

You’re basically teaching this dog to be greedy & only be obedient when there is an opportunity for treats/food..it’s already preoccupied with looking around for snacks. I’m all for treating our pets OCCASIONALLY but such positive reinforcement for good behaviour does not exist within the animal kingdom..yes, you may get results but clearly have very little regard for the consequences
