betthebungalow I raced at Monticello Raceway in the summer of 1975..Max in the booth was one of the endearing memories i will have, along with racing in the Sunday afternoon features with Eldon Harner. Marvin Maker, George Berkner, and some young kid named John Campbell..
I remember when he passed away as well. We lost him way too young. Was he only the track announcer at Yonkers in 1971, as by the time we saw videos from Yonkers in '72 Jim Dolan had taken over.
MAX BREWER THE RACE CALLER WAS TERIFFIC WHAT A TEAM STAN DANCER AND ALBATROSS BOTH IN THE HALL OF FAME I JUST LOVE WATCHING THESE OLD VIDEOS OF THE 60.S AND 70S AND THE REAL TALENT HORSEMEN OF THAT ERA

@STU676 Dancer could sure rate a horse and was mighty good at reading a stop watch, the second quarter made this race and it was just a tick or two away from a fine for too slow of a quarter and no one would pull on him! Thats called RESPECT!
@betthebungalow He was one of the greatest announcers ever. A photographic memory. He died way too soon. My condolences to you but you should be very proud of him.
Douglas Brunt You are half right...If Tic Wilcutts was not such good friends with Charlie Kenney at Stoner Creek Stud, Voodoo Hanover would never have gotten a booking to Meadow Skipper...
betthebungalow Here is the story...Stan was at Hanover Shoe looking at yearlings, and Lawrence Sheppard, the squire of Hanover, told Stan they were going to name a yearling after him...Stanley emphatically said that he wanted the colt out of The Old Maid named for him..LS originally said no,but eventually assented to Stans wishes with the caveat...YOU HAD BETTER BID HOLY HELL OUT OF HIM WHEN HE 'S IN THE RING!!! Stanley did, and he paid a heavy number to halter the colt..Dancer Hanover was plagued by unsoundness most of his career, but had a usefull stud career when he was repatriated to Hanover Shoe....NOW YOU KNOW...
ALBATROSS MAIN COMPETOR NASEMOND WAS NO WERE TO BE FOUND STAN DANCER AND THE GREAT ALBATROSS OPEN 6 LENGTHS...ON HT LUCA AND ROY LAWSON THIS RACE I WAS ONLY SIXES AND NOT ALLOWED IN THE GRANDSTAND MY DAD AND I WATCHED FROM OUTSIDE FENCE I WAS ON DADS SHOULDER

Ah! The BIG BIRD as he was called. Great horse, great driver but thank Harry Harvey, he developed the champ.
My father was Max Brewer , the announcer calling the great race...Albatross IN FRONT !
To Bigjoetube, Thank you for your acknowledgement of my father, the announcer in this video, Max A Brewer. He passed away in 1977 at age 39.

They had better camera work and angles in 1971 than they do now at Yonkers!
The horse was simply a monster!!!

WHAT A TERRIFIC RACE I LIKED THE NEW STARTING GATE
I noticed that, must have been 72 or 73 that they went with the newer starting gate..71 had to be the original
IF IT WAS'NT FOR hARRY hARVEY THERE WOULD BE NO aLBATROSS
Absolutely true! Harvey developed the BIG BIRD
