Good ole Rusty Range held 4th place out of the 8 hole! He was best horse in Michigan back then. Horse had a ton of ❤
I was only 2 when he ran, but my dad had a offspring of him later in years that was good horse too!
Back in the 1960s and 1970s Rusty Range, Adios Cleo and Knox Hanover were the top pacing sires in Michigan and many of their offspring found their way to NYC to race on the half milers, Dancing Horse, Barney Fahrner and Knox Warrior being among them...
There were 3 Great Competitors.. Overtrick, Meadow Skipper. Country Don. ... WOW!!

I used to watch Overkill (son of Overtrick) win FFA events at Roosevelt and Yonkers in the 1970s.
Ray..Overkill was a son of Armbro Nesbit who was owned by the Molnar bros. from Ohio..He was trained and driven by both Glen Garnsey and Don Harmon at one time during his racing career..
The track announcer is the legendary Marty Glickman.

What a great field! I seem to remember Overtrick having soundness problems at this point of his career but don’t hold me to that. Just a great pacer along with Cardy, Rusty and Country Don. Henry T was a bit past it at this point.
Rusty Range became a solid sire in Michigan after his retirement...
Yep a great horse! He throwed pretty good offspring! 4th place not bad from 8 hole and being pushed 3 deep on a half mile track
No one I mean no one except Del Insko even seems ro remember Overcall. I think he won 23 straight races or something like that.

Bring back this great race, now with "shuttle sires", the playing field has evened a bit. Just look at Saturday night racecards filled with N. or A. Ending horses. Do a two week show, preview at a 1 mile and a final at a Down Under mile and a half.
Old Kiwi almost got up. Greatest pacer ever was Cardigan Bay.
Cardy was a tough old bird! GOAT? I'd hold out for Always B. Miki, but to each their own.
