Yes, but if you look at the units Brettonia gets and the lore they are clearly based, in part, on England. Grail knights are based on Arthurian legend as is the lady of the lake, Arthurian legend is English. Furthermore, Yoemen are a social class from the English middle ages. The peasant archers are modeled after English longbowmen. The industrial vs peasent economy is based off of England being the center and start of the industrial revolution. Finally, the crusading that Reponse does models Richard the Lionhearts own crusading. Of course there were French crusaders but few if any of them were from Brittany.
Joakim Ängehult Nah, Louen is quite open-minded for a Bretonnian. He was the one to ally with Karl Franz when the rest of their respective kingdoms called them heretics/traitors for doing so.
It's fantasy, if this were 40k then that would and has happened. There have been times were lowly people lead their planets and the imperium to victory and claimed to have been spoken to by the emperor or sometimes even prove it with golden anti deamon light yet the imperium has just executed them anyway
IIRC the king at the time was Louis the Young who was barely 12. He succeeded his father Louis the Bold who true to his name went against the beforementioned Chaos Lord without much hope for victory.
@@robertcypress6604 that was BritAnnia :) the island is still called Great Bretain; but still, in the game the Bretonnian characters have French names, use French words, and are built upon the concept of French armored knights. It is relative to Brittany (Bretagne), which is a French region of the north-west; interestingly it is also a region in which some people still talk a Gaelic dialect there, because during the "barbarian invasions" some Britons (from Britain,, possibly Cornwall or Wales) conquered and populated it, roughly at the same time when the Angli and the Saxons conquered and populated Britain.

This was way too glorious. People in the house looking at me funny for laughing out loud
Oh man you are so critically underrated. I hope you get the fame you deserve 😁
10:01 - 10:23 this is art.
Oh yeah, this vid was made when Australia was hit by the fires, not the extreme floods
Oh man. Is that what's happening there now?
As someone who has tended sheep, I can confirm that sheep do inspire a frothing rage like no other.
one of the most entertaining videos I've seen since the crusades
So she's Sisters of Battle, but in Fantasy
Perfect timing. Time to bring glory to the lady
I think I remember someone making a thirsty drawing of her on reddit.
@Cody Bonds, hey if you are planning to do Count Noctilus, you should call him Saltbeard constantly, i played a 2 player campaign as him and both of us never referred to him by his real name. Only ever called him Saltbeard, it was great.
Some fantasy universes take inspiration from history. Games Workshop's approach is more on the "plagerism" end of the spectrum.
Actually a Breton is a person from Brittany, which is a region of France. So she's French.
@pokezee king-wolf Yes but it was under the french sphere of influence, brittany made french its official language 350 years before france did!
Technically bretons are celts from wales so they are welsh.
I wish Bretonnia had a proper black sheep faction, like Arkhan the Black or Drycha, one opposed to the Lady of the Lake brainwashing.
I want Bertrand the Brigand or Mallobaude for that.
That music send me back on my 4000 hours on Medieval II... NEED THE III
Knowing Warhammer, I'm surprised Louen didn't just seize her after the battle and burn her at the stake for breaking the law. :P
That why Fantasy is better then 40k.
It's not unnecessary grimdark for the heck of it.
Louen wasn‘t around back then.
IIRC the king at the time was Louis the Young who was barely 12. He succeeded his father Louis the Bold who true to his name went against the beforementioned Chaos Lord without much hope for victory.
If you think Repanse flinging fire is dark you haven't heard of the Sisters of Battle from 40k.
"Bretonnia" is not called that relatively to Britain but relatively to Brittany, a French region
TBF near as I recall the theory is it got its name from British refugees fleeing the Anglo-Saxon invasions and whatnots settling there.
I thought it was a play on BRITONNIA. The name of england before the roman invasion.
Blues Brothers ref got my like good reference ten points much great
Love the wood elves puppet nation's lore
3:05 never fails to make me laugh
Great video as always, a pleasure for sure.
She is probably the ancestor of the SOB or maybe related to Saint Celestine.
I mean, the SoB had to get their taste in hairstyle somewhere
@@dillonwarcup6426 true.
Repanse went in that temple and yelled at the knight
-SPREAD YOUR SHIT!!
Holy crap, this video is hilarious. Great job, Cody!
