Try downsizing to 5. It’s tough but I find it liberating. That’s what I did. It helps that most of my watches are def on the luxury price margin so I don’t just compulsively buy. In the beginning of my watch journey I was always seeking to get the alternative or the homages cause I couldn’t fathom spending thousands, but it never and will never scratch that itch. if I have to sell I don’t take a big or no loss at all. I know people lifestyle/ taste are different. Also for me there aren’t enough days of the week to have 7+ watch collection. I really enjoy your content. keep doing your thing.
I think 5 is impossible for me lol... but I'll think about it. Maybe a hypothetical video idea? One of the 4 watches I'm aiming for this year is in the luxury tier, and thats the one I'm aiming for first. Trying to get the big boy out of the way... that might effect my decision for the rest of the year if I can buckle down and get that by March. I appreciate the words. Happy new year!
I'll probably never get into serious watch collecting, but I'd like to have a more carefully curated set of watches for daily wear---pieces that I save for and are an expression of my happiness. I am reading this book by Dan Buettner called "Blue Zones of Happiness." There's a chapter about Denmark being one of those happy places, where people have some of the highest levels of day-to-day happiness through their pursuit of purpose in their lives. He talks about their consumer habits---how people savor the experience of anticipating valuable objects, saving for months or years before making this careful purchase. It becomes an expression of who they are. I'm curious: I've viewed the other videos about the independent and micro space. Are you limiting the proportion of large brand, mid-priced watches in favor of more limited, high-end pieces (grails, signature pieces), regardless of brand, or are you thinking of smaller brands with truly unique designs?
Hey Scott. Love the note. I've always wanted to visit Denmark. My whole process of getting to where I'm at now... I was honest with myself and really looked at what I was wearing and reaching for every day. My top 3 ended up being the Seiko SPB381, Black Bay S&G, and the Raven Endeavor II. For dress / special occasions I'd usually pop on the DJ or the C1. Work watches I ended up bouncing between the Raven and the Lhotse. Today as I'm typing this I'm wearing the Black Bay. Reflecting on this, I went thru similar paths with camera equipment. When I first started, I was hoarding cheaper 3rd party lenses, but now I see how truly valuable it is buying the higher end lenses made from the same manufacturer. I've ended up selling all of my cheaper lenses and now have a real tightened up lens kit. This year the goal is to add 4 watches to my collection. 1 is a big brand, 1 is an independent brand, and 2 are micro brands, prices ranging from $500 to $7000. The anticipation for my first purchase is building up, as I'm trying to get the big purchase out of the way first for Q1. I'd love to know what you have in your collection and what dictates your buying decisions. I appreciate the words, and thank you for watching my vids dude.
@@TheFuturisticVintage I have had the same Bulova Marine Star quartz watch for about fifteen years, and I wore it every day. At the beginning of the current school year (I'm a teacher) I realized I could not see the time or date very well because my eyes are getting weaker, and the crystal was pretty scuffed up. I got the crystal replaced and hunted for a long time for an auto with a super-legible dial and a magnified date or day/date. I bought the King Turtle from Teddy over the phone with a rep. The whole experience was good, with lots of trips to shops to check out the inventory and check the fit. No one had the King Turtle, so I bought from him-they gave me a great price over the phone. Next I wanted a plain field watch as a beater and bought a titanium Boldr Venture-also a good experience and a watch I wear all the time. I had a chance to Zoom with Leon Leong doing some market research feedback and loved talking to him about his business and like the niche style he's created. I had that watch regulated at a watch-maker a couple weeks ago, and right now it's still only 2 seconds fast, after two weeks! My third auto I bought on a whim from Spinnaker when they were closing out the year: A Fleuss. I'd been dreaming about the CW Aquitaine GMT and figured I'd try out the look with this Fifty-Fathoms homage. It's cool and very accurate, but too big at 43mm x 51mm. I accidentally dropped the thing on the countertop while putting it on and shattered the glass bezel insert. I might try to machine an insert out of some black bakelite I have, but it's not a priority for such an inexpensive watch. This mishap got me thinking---I need to be careful what I sink money into. The Aquitaine has a sapphire insert that could also be broken with a direct hit, because of its bulbous shape. Better to stick with a flatter, ceramic insert. Better to go with a brand that supplies dealers with replacement parts. If that had been a Seiko, I'd be able to replace whatever was needed. I contacted Spinnaker four days ago about it, and no response. So, maybe a large brand is the way to go. I have the SPB381 or 383 in mind for sure. I also think smaller houses like Farer, Nivada, and Baltic are very cool. LBA is real! I had a photography side-line going for a while and also learned a bit of the hard way how to spend on cameras: Save for durable, fast lenses you'll still want to use in five years. Don't compromise, or you'll be chasing your tail. I'm looking forward to your future videos and am curious to see who you pick.
Thanks Scott. I love that King Turtle. I'm glad your experience with Teddy was positive. I've always wondered about those consultations and how they are with purchasing, glad it was a positive experience for you. Dang, sucks what happened with the Spinnaker. Give it some more time, i'm sure they'll hit you back. I appreciate the words and encouragement. My bad it took so long to get back, I booked a 3 day job that is taking away all my time. Take care bud. Lets keep in touch and keep checking in with me when I post vids. Lemme know how it goes with the Fleuss.
Keeping the SSC911 then? ;) Did you see the link I posted a while back for the SSC911: rubber strap *with end links* from Crafter Blue? I bought one and it's perfect. Good luck with the sales, it's cathartic.
Not afraid you might regret it a few weeks/months after? A bit like you, I get attached to my stuff. And like you said, focusing on more refine watches helps but still get some flashbacks after 😂. Great content 👍
I'd debated selling my SKX007 before as well as it wasn't (and still somewhat doesnt) get wrist time as much as I feel it deserved but decided against it because its THE 007 if you get me? Idk maybe it might just be worth keeping because of what it is and what it means to you? I know you said about sentimentality not playing a factor and maybe it's my general bias like I said 😂 Excited to see what comes up within the next year though!
I feel that. There is a side of me that hopes the auction falls thru and gives me a reason to keep it, but more than anything, it’s for the cathartic exercise of being a complete savage. I’ll keep you posted with the deets loll. Happy new year my friend. Many blessings 2025
@TheFuturisticVintage that ruthlessness is needed I suppose so I can understand where you're coming from. I can sense the same issue coming for myself with my Lorier's because I've got the Gemini, olympia and if they do a reverse panda olympia I just know I'd like it but I also know I wouldn't like having all 3? Watches are weird man 😂 Happy new year!
I think you also wake up and thought “hm 🤔 I think I’m going to try fingerless gloves today” 😂
Loll yoooo fingerless gloves is actually part of my winter uniform. Daily wear. Best investment.
Anticipation is killing me
No ragrats 2025
Good choice, good choice
Oooooo the SKX - growth through pain 👏🏽
I'm hurting bro.... but it must be done.
I think you made the right decision to sell. Less is more, realistically it’s incredible hard to wear every watch the more you have in the collection.
Thank you! Yea I ran into that as well.
LFG!!!!!!!! Cant wait to see you wax poetically about the Tag Panda in the future! GLWS! 🍻🍻🍻🍻
👀👀 leaving the boutique blasting “Forgot About Dre” out the Hyundai 😭😭😭😭

Thank you! It will be a good exercise for me.
Cleaning house! Thought you were already going to give up on my Alpinist! 😅
never bro. thats a forever mainstay.
My watch collection has certainly prompted me to evaluate my life choices.
Everyday Doctor…. Everyday lol
@@TheFuturisticVintage I must say, I was sad to see those vintage Citizen and Seiko watches go. They were nice pieces.

COUCHLORDDDD!!!!!!
Congratulations on making the decision to majorly downsize your collection. I hope the exercise brings you more clarity and enjoyment with the hobby.
Thank you! Yea it'll be a nice learning experience. Might be time to do the same thing with my camera bodies and lenses.
