    I just got into watch collecting. I've loved watches since I was young but I never had anyone teach me or bring deeper into the world. MAMACOO brought closer to a community and hobby I always wanted to get into more and that is incredibly meaningful to me !

    I would love a spring drive, but for now my seiko 5 will do. It's a $300 watch on a $50 dollar strap, selling for $150 lol

    Interesting thoughts! I had a similar Seiko journey starting with a $50 seiko 5 all the way to King/Grand Seiko and had basically the opposite conclusion. I'm now down to just the orange SSK as my only seiko (and even this I debate about selling for a Monster, Tuna or Arnie). For me Seiko shines brightest sub $1k and while the more premium stuff is nice, I would just rather have another brand offering.

      @@TheFuturisticVintage usual suspects- Rolex, omega, Tudor. But I guess Sinn and Longines are the 2 that replaced my premium seikos.

    My favorite watch in my collection is the one that was a impulse buy when I tried it on in an AD and came back the day after and got it after sleeping on it. Have been wearing it consistently as my GADA ever since for the last soon 2 years. It's the sne573, threw away the dust collecting rubber it came on and got it on oyster, jubelee, leather, elastic, silicon, volcanized rubber and everything else I got. It's a low center of mass, comfortable strap monster. Also nice to not having to unscrew the crown more than once every other month.

      That 38mm diver is a looker. Sizing and style is great! I’m gonna start suggesting that to friends. Thanks for the note, and I appreciate all the context in this comment.

  • @ninetysicks
    @ninetysicks 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I just wish the Seiko Prospex line was more smaller-wrist friendly. All the divers are 42mm+, even if they have shorter lugs to make it wear smaller. My next seiko purchase will be a vintage Seiko or a newer King Seiko, and that’s mainly because of the sizing. Otherwise I’m just saving for a Tudor BB54 or a Speedmaster Reduced. There are so many micro brands with amazing options in that $500-$1000 price point but with only few of those nice brands having a real reputation among the community, it’s hard to pull the trigger on so many.

    • @TheFuturisticVintage
      @TheFuturisticVintage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel ya. Luckily for me I like bigger watches so the size doesn't bother me much. I say keep saving for that Tudor or Omega. I love my Black Bay.

    I love seikos no matter what, its the Japanese culture, design, variety and engineering caught my attention. I know Swiss made brands are better in terms of mechanical watches but seikos are worth the price. Spring drive movement is the best I've seen on a watch. I have SSC911 its like the combination of japan vintage seiko 5s with a red hand on a chronograph so aesthetically pleasing and very useful watch too.

    I dont disagree that spending more with Seiko will generally provide more quality, but spending *that* much more might be the sticking point perhaps? Like you said microbrands distort everything, and I recently bought the Lorier Olympia (NE88/8R48) and it was around £700 vs Seikos pricing of over 2k in some instances. I know they have more overheads but £1500 worth?! I still think if you can get seikos second hand they are worth it though 👌

    • @TheFuturisticVintage
      @TheFuturisticVintage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel ya. When I bought my SPB381, the AD offered it to me for $1,050.00 (MSRP 1,500) so I decided to go for it because the price was right, and it’s a beautiful watch. If they didn’t make the offer at that discounted price, I probably would have passed on it. Love that Lorier Olympia tho. Thanks for the note!

      @TheFuturisticVintage I mean as much as I love seiko and what they have done and do continue to do, I worry theyre pricing themselves out. I mean I always thought that GS/KS were meant to fill those upper prices but I guess I'm wrong! And I'm super excited to get it, will likely do a video or two on it :D
