I’m a 30 year old millennial and I don’t get offended by gen z calling me old because.... I am.... I’m not a teenager. Like why is everyone freaking out? Who cares. We are in a different stage of life. I don’t care if teens don’t think I’m cool. When I was a teen I thought 30 was ancient. 🤷🏻♀️
@@serenityrivers2891 as a 29 year old that didnt even care what my peers thought when I WAS a teen I surely dont care what teens think now lol. It impacts me 0% if a younger person thinks I'm "not cool" lolol
I feel old and I'm 23. If a teen wants to call me old I would be like yeah totally I'm ancient I'm not about to fight about jeans and hair, I have limited time and I would like to spent it watching people on the Internet talking about generational feuds lol
I saw someone say this war is just millennial women freaking out that they're getting old. But I can't really blame them cause society tells us women's value is in their youth and beauty.
I mean all this is silly but I’m a millennial (born 1990) and hitting 30 was legit scary for me. You go your whole life thinking you’re suppose to be pretty and youthful and one day you wake up and you’re a mom and have fine lines. Aging is scary. Also I’ve been calling flared legging yoga pants in my head while simultaneously calling them flared legging. They are both, after leggings were popularized it makes sense that they are calling them flared leggings.
I’m 31 and never looked good with a major side part! Occasionally I’ve done a slight side part but I’ve been doing the middle part for awhile now! I did not know it was an issue lol
The time and energy being used to "battle it out" shows that some of us have been home too long...Go for a walk girl, and call your stretchy pants whatever you want lol
I’m a millennial, and this makes me cringe so hard. These women have to be like the oldest of the millennials because I don’t know anyone that acts like them or gets offended by Gen Z stuff.
some children get annoying with their gen z is superior bullshit but i literally don't see the point of grown adults fighting children on such an immature topic. it really is just embarrassing
I am a Millenial gamer, and as a man observing the evolution of social media over the last 10 years, I can accurately say, that social media is primarily targeted towards girls. Instagram started the "digital exhibitionism" culture with selfies, and now it has evolved into girls making 15 second dance videos and/or short lip-sync videos. The only reason boys and men are on these platforms, is to see the girls. We usually have no other reason to be on any of these platforms. One of the exceptions of course are celebrities, which now includes both mainstream and web celebrities.
Definitely more embarrassing for millennials. Coming from a millenial, I'm here for gen z dragging us. Most of it is hilarious, especially in the comments of these videos. If I ever pull something like this, hit me with a truck real quick, thanks. ❤✌🚛
Absolutely!! I'm born in 1997 so I'm not even technically Gen Z, but the millenials I'm friends with always like to start fights about being GenZ. Like babes, I don't care. Secondly, I dont qualify. Finally, get a life.
@@at12344 most of us are. The ones that are happy & stable at least. I don't bully teens online because I don't need to. I'm happy. I have nothing against Gen Z. I think the dragging is hilarious. But then you get these crazy ladies who turn into feminem all of a sudden rapping about side parts & they wonder why they're getting drug.
and millennials were clearly wayyy more upset about it then gen z..the whole thing was a bit embarrassing for them because gen z really didn’t seem like they even cared while millennials were rapping about it.
Whenever I drive past a school I expect to see a ton of Gen Zs looking like they stepped right out of tiktok, but honestly a ton of them are still wearing skinny jeans and they don't all have middle parts. Tiktok is like a magnifying glass and doesn't show the full picture.
Yeah idk, as a junior in high school, I never see low rise jeans either?? Everyone around me seems to mostly wear high rise skinny jeans and I'd say a lot do have a side part or hair so short they don't have a part. It's so weird? I always thought gen z and millennials got along?? All my sisters are millennials and I like them all
I’m gen z and I wear skinny jeans and have a side part regularly, I think some millennials just saw some tik tok people wearing new trends and got way too defensive about it
Most of my class wear skinny jeans. I made a joke about how we are teenagers mostly wearing clothes by millennials and we just laughed it off. Here its not normal to throw out clothes or replace them just because its out of trend and i think thats how "out of date" trends should be, not many might were them but you wouldn't be bullied for wearing them and honestly they aren't as bad as tiktokers make it seem
ALSO, THE WOMAN THAT DID THE "GEN Z CAN SUCK IT" SONG LITERALLY SAID WORD FOR WORD "I DON'T HATE NAZIS" IN A TIKTOK LIVE SO MAKING FUN OF HER IS ABSOLUTELY VALID
I KNEW something was wrong with her, with that barely concealed livid rage behind a condescending smile, against some gen-z kid that said skinny jeans are out of style, lol. I don't remember a single person, including skinny people, who actually enjoyed wearing them when they were in style. It was a tolerate them because fashion kinda situation.
i wore low cut jeans all my childhood, along with ugly hoodies and i hate them with my whole heart cause they were so uncomfortable. at least i didn't wear leggings cause i hated them even more. all those clothes made little me co self-concious
All I can think about this is that grandpa Simpson quote: "I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!"
Ppl love to say “Gen Z does blank and blank” but literally everyone around me, including myself is Gen Z bc Im in high school. I don’t see anyone hating on skinny jeans or calling yoga pants “flared leggings” WHO IS DOING THESE THINGS?
THIS!! also reminds me of how millenials really feel like they *have* to follow trends and if we hate on their old trends or bring back trends that they didnt like, they feel they need to "boycott" them when literally anyone can wear what they want when they want to, no one needs to follow a trend or wear certain things and its so weird how so many of them think that way
@@bugabea4059 yes omg !! middle parts/ loose jeans are just in style rn and if they do not like it they don’t have to follow that trend? i don’t rlly understand like unless ur super into fashion ur just gonna grow out of trends at some point
RIGHTT like no one i know in real life is saying this shit, i only see it online. same thing with most trends/aesthetics nowadays too,, most of the girls ik irl just wear some regular skinny jeans, a hoodie, and some vans. idk it’s like everything really is online and it’s kinda weird honestly
Do people not realize that fashion trends get “recycled” and come back around? Pretty much every new fashion trend is inspired by something that was previously fashionable. Most all of “gen Z” fashion is heavily inspired by 80s/90s looks, and looks from the 80s and 90s were inspired by previous decades...
exactly! i got this super cute pair of lavender colored 70s style jeans, and they're wonderful. we're straight up just wearing anything from every previous decade lmao
My dad was shocked lately bc a minimalist brown outfit I was wearing made him strongly think of the 70's. He didn't think he'd see anything from then come back!
Fr! The way I dress today i get told a lot by my parents or older people that they used to wear that when they were younger. Sometimes I get told I look like an old lady/man lol.
Exactly! I know this is off topic but that’s why I don’t care much about trends because something will be popular for 6 months then everyone thinks it’s cringe. But then a few years later it’s back in style. It’s all superficial in the end. It’s all a marketing ploy
As an older Gen Z (20) it's just your broke uncle acting like a Boomer so you notice you are also broke but at least still have your senses to be more of an adult than them
So true! I would technically be considered a millennial, but I never think about it because it doesn’t define me and it’s not my sense of identity. Being part of a generation just means that you share a couple of childhood experiences. It doesn’t indicate who you are as an individual.
Being in that 1997 limbo is so funny because I feel too old for TikTok and whatever else that will follow, but I don't share the same nostalgia for AIM and Myspace that the millenials have. A wise person on Twitter once said something to the effect on "I identify with whichever generation is being the least embarassing" and, honestly, same.
@@Alicia-ix9yp I was told that we are considered cuspers. I’m 97 but honestly I doubt people are gonna go through the work of making that a thing. We are just the inbetweeners . I personally detest tik tok , I try not to judge anyone who likes it , I just don’t use it , but MySpace is a time I don’t have nostalgia for either. It is what is . Let’s all just like whatever we want and stop this crap. It’s ridiculous tbh.
I’m a 1999 kid and my younger sister is a ‘07. She has no idea what I’m talking about when I mention MSN or the “*-*/ RaWR/ xD/ U.U” texting style. Also, I had no idea what Tiktok was until last year. We can’t be from the same generation 😩
Okay but like: Imagine getting so offended by gen z calling out Eminem for being problematic (at least I think that's why they're doing it, idk) that you feel the need to make a whole. Damn. RAP.
Also the song they were point out was Love the way you lie with Rihanna which is about how confusing and difficult abusive relationships, so the lyrics made sense. Which is why I'm pretty sure it was a joke. I think it's ""gen z humor"" and how it's typed out that some of the older crowd gets confused with and take seriously.
I’ll be 26 this year and I find this SO. FUNNY. Like why are these white women with mortgages so upset about a teenager’s opinion, they write a RAP about it!!?!??!! 😅
Because they are mad that the new generation is in the spotlight. If you're not youthful then you are discarded. Patriarchal and misogynistic views still thrive in society.
@@Bauhaussauce 💯 correct. It’s all about marketing and target audiences really. Also, they can be pretty sensitive so be careful! Lol! From a 42 year old Gen Xer.
this "war" gives off big older siblings coming home from college to find their younger sibling has moved in to their room and now they have to sleep in a shoe box room, also you wouldn't catch me dead in low cut jeans
as an early 20-something with teenage high school siblings i rly feel this comment. when i first heard that middle parts and low-cut jeans were in again i didnt believe it--i STILL don't believe it tbh i can't see low-cut jeans as anything but a travesty whenever im visiting home they'll throw out some slang term or dance move completely foreign to me. reminds me i've been out of high school for a hot minute lol
Lowcut and bootcut are the ugliest things to have come into existence. Some gen z clothing trends are cute af but I will never let them convince me those jeans are back in style
not to be all “as an adult people should know better” but like the agressive millennials responding should really try to remember they (for the most part) were where gen z is at one point. i can almost guarantee at ages 12-17 they were calling their parents styles ugly, calling anyone older than 21 “old”, and having differing opinions from the generation above them. Like you grew up to hopefully realize nothing was really that deep, right?
As a gen z, I had no idea this “battle” between my gen and millennials was still going on. I thought this was a thing from the past, like a year or two ago.
That's why it doesn't bother me that much. Millinnials used to slam Gen Xers for being self centered and stuck in the 80s. There are always going to be younger generations insulting older generations and vice versa.
i don't get why millennials feel their existence is being threatened if gen z brings back an old trend or style. no one is gonna force you to wear low-rise jeans? im gen z and you'd never catch me in low rise jeans because i just don't like them, and that's fine. just because something is a trend doesn't mean you have to participate in said trend. the people who tweeted about hating middle parts or low rise jeans make themselves sound insecure, like they're not confident enough to wear what they want and ignore what's trending or what people have to say. i used millennials as an example bc i honestly haven't seen any gen z person complain as sincerely and adamantly as they have.
Understand that but, really once a thing is a Mainstream Trend, all you find in shops is that. I remember the days when all you could buy was low-cut, but then I now no longer shop at "trendy shops" so don't care if the kids today want to dress in the worst 90ies/2000 Kitsch.
I think all generations get this from the previous generation- the older one is just pissed because they're getting older and the 'kids' are setting the trends. The War Baby gen gave the Baby Boomers shit, the Boomers did it to the 'Me' generations (early/mid 70s), the Me Generation did it to Gen X, Gen X did it to themselves and to Millennials but did a half-assed Job because 'Slacker', Boomers did it again to both GenX and the Millenials, and now it the Millennials turn to pay it forward. Lets just blame it all on the Baby Boomers and call it a day.
@@jenniferblake3224 oh for sure, i actually just wrote a paper on the pattern of generational gaps. the gen z vs millennial thing is definitely not new, i just thought it was interesting to note how responsive millennials have been in this situation; i honestly didn't expect that since millennials and gen z actually have so much in common. but you're right, every older generation feels "threatened" by the younger one. i'm sure gen z and the alpha gen will have their arguments in a few years, too.
I think millennials get mad about that because they make fun of the style but then go back to say I was born in the wrong generation like gen z is always that great and millennials aren’t either
since when is Gen Z even bringing back low cut jeans we hate them just as much as you???? i have never seen a gen z kid wearing these jeans ????? i personally only ever wear high waisted pans
I mean some people on Instagram are trying to bring them back because it just go's better with the 2000s/70s esque outfits that are trendy rn. I've personally never seen someone outside wearing them though.
I swear Buzzfeed keeps pumping articles like this and at first it was funny but now its annoying 😂. Like whats the point? We aren't all the same and millennials aren't either. No generation is so its unfair to pit them against each other.
This whole thing reminds me of how like 10 years ago boomers were putting out a bunch of articles about how millennials were ruining the economy and stuff. This is practically the exact same thing
Millennial here, and I am so embarrassed by my own generation. Like... you’re approaching 40 and fighting with teenagers - LITERAL CHILDREN - on an app? Wow. Go pay your mortgage, Jessica. 😂
Ikr. You're likely double their age but acting like your half of it. Full on kicking them into the ground because they made a joke about their dress sense
As a millennial, I can say the perception is that Gen Z came for us, not the other way around. I really am not personally invested though, I agree with Casey overall.
this whole thing is stupid and bullying kids is gross, but as a 30 year old woman i am kinda sensitive about being called old because women are constantly made to feel like they lose value after the age 25 already. like i know that’s not their intent at all, but like i said it hits a nerve lmao
@@dont_harsh_my_mellow I don’t even wanna say all gens have pros and cons. Generations don’t really mean much of anything outside of when you were born. The pros and cons come from ppl themselves. Usually when ppl talk about the pros and cons of generations they don’t take into account that it was different for everyone
Are millennials forgetting this is exactly what we were doing to boomers and how funny it was when they got offended? Because these reactions are boomer behaviour. Also don’t pretend that yall didn’t behave like this on 2012 tumblr.
as a "younger" millennial that's exactly how i feel about this whole thing. like 7-10 years ago we were being embarrassing on tumblr making cringey posts without a care in the world and clowning our parents' generation so?? why are millennials getting so mad at a bunch of teenagers now when they're basically doing the same thing we used to do, just on a different platform? let the kids live lmao we're not teenagers anymore to be acting like this
I think your memory is a little hazy. Millennials were trying to pay off student debt and find jobs after multiple recessions while being called entitled narcissists by boomers. And “ok boomer” came as a response to an attack on BOTH millennials and gen z. Additionally millennials didn’t start the “skinny jeans and side parts” nonsense, we just responded to how stupid it was. So just put it away.
Millennials aren’t doing this. It’s like 2 millennials online. Just like 2 Gen Zs complaining about skinny jeans doesn’t speak for everyone else. Goes both ways. Gen Z and Millenials are allies IMO
@@allymog5228 Honestly, that's the biggest problem in this discussion. I don't know why "flared leggings" sound so disgusting, but it still makes my skin crawl.

remember in the 2010's when all the old people were like "leggings aren't pants"? and now people are mad that we don't call leggings pants, weird progression of events
which is weird because I remember when they were a trend in the 80s (back in my day, we called 'em 'Stretch Pants'!) and it was cool to wear black ones with a super big colorful top. Maybe they were mad because with the new trend they didn't wear shirts long enough to cover the butt? I dunno...

As a 2001 baby I remember seeing all of the “only 90’s kids will remember this” type posts and feeling super left out even though I also remembered a lot of them too lol. It also didn’t help that I had an older sister who was born in the 90’s and always made me feel like a dumb little kid who knew nothing. So I can understand why millennials feel so attacked now even if it’s just a joke. Now at 19 I’m perfectly fine being on the cusp of millennial and gen z and realize how pointless it was obsessing over where I belonged!
Agreed. Most millennials love Gen-Z. I know I do. And I like that you guys are bringing back a lot of fashion I liked and wanted to wear as a kid. You kids are alright. I like that you guys have access to things I didn't as a teen.
I think Millennials are just super defensive bc they always have Boomers criticizing them for no reason, so when Gen Z does even the smallest thing that’s mildly critical or making fun of Millennials, they get war flashbacks or something.
the only video i saw about this “war” was a grown women taking about how she doesn’t care what genz says and then very quickly progressing into crying and yelling about how she is gonna wear skinny jeans and a side part but also how she “doesn’t care” what genz says
@@KevinLuper99 they don’t, and very few actually try to. Literally no teenagers other than a few insufferable tiktok kids give a shit what anyone wears, loads of people at my school like skinny jeans and side parts
Honestly most things concerning either “Gen Z” or “millennials” is embarrassing. People need to be more focused on who they are and not what label they were born into.
I don’t really think it’s so much about the label, and more about the generation and years you grew up in and everything that comes with that..society, music, the things that tie us together. People generally feel a closeness with those they can relate to the most, and often that tends to be people from their own generation. It can be comforting, especially the older you get and the more people you lose.
How does someone think that insulting an entire generation of ppl with a 30 second limerick set behind free use trap music is going to “own” the literal children they’re trying to prove an irrelevant point to?
As a 29 year old, I can confirm, I panicked a little when I saw teenagers saying that low rise jeans were coming back. I remember just how bad they were. It's an unforgiving cut of clothing, if your stomach isn't flat as a board, you get the effect of the socially unacceptable "muffin top". It's a piece of clothing that is only celebrated on skinny bodies, and I can vividly remember taking up mental energy to suck in my stomach all day. On top of that, anytime you sit down, you underwear / crack shows. Why did I waste my time trying to make it work with these jeans? Because it was literally the only style around in stores. We didn't have high-waisted jeans. They were out of style, so stores didn't sell them. When the high waist came back into style I jumped on it like a speeding train, but even in the early days, the "high rise" was something like 9 inches, which is more like mid-rise. it took a lot of hunting to find jeans that actually went up to your waist. I started taking measuring tape shopping with me wherever I went so I could quickly search for something over 10 inches. My fear is that if low rise becomes the style, it will once again be impossible to find flattering jeans for my body. I don't think that's likely due to the continuing demand for high-waisted jeans, but the thought of it definitely makes my brain go "oh god no"
I could have written this comment, it's all burned in my memory. Thankfully with the internet and online shops it will be much easier to withstand the trend, even if they manage to make a full comeback
it's a bit of a "an enemy of my enemy is my friend" type thing. all generations have this. boomers and gen x would shit on us millennials too. and then we and gen z found common ground shitting on boomers and gen x. but gens next to each other will always fight each other. boomers and gen x would shit on us, but would also turn on each other
Millenial here. One thing for sure I was actually on board with is when gen z call the baby boomers, “boomers” or saying, “ok boomer” 😂....they get on my nerves when they keep assuming i’m still a teenager, when i’m totally in a different decade. I mean i know i and many other millenials look 18-20yrs old, but atleast don’t talk to me like i’m a dumbass and naiive.
As a '98, I feel this. I've seen multiple people say that 96-00 is the weird in the middle group that can relate to both generations but aren't really part of them
remember on tumblr in 2014 when we all solemnly agreed that we would never harshly judge the next generation bc of how boomers and gen xers were judging us? welp
also all the old tumblr discourse is popping up on tiktok and as a person on the cusp of both generations that grew up with tumblr, it's kind of interesting to see play out
I’m a millennial and honestly the low-rise pant trend makes my heart sink. I was skinny in high school (I had an eating disorder) and even as small as I was shopping for jeans felt like an absolute tragedy. Stores like Abercrombie and Fitch were really popular and had CEOs telling us that if we couldn’t fit into their clothes then they didn’t want us as customers. Brands seemed to encourage exclusivity and enjoyed making us feel like absolute shit. So when I see low-rise jeans possibly coming back into style I can’t help but remember crying in a dressing room because I weighed 115lbs and couldn’t fit into a Large size shirt at Hollister.
yep. its not just the cut of jeans that feels like its coming back. its the toxic diet culture and the idea that hot womens clothes have to uncomfortable and that girls dont need to be able to fit more than three fingers into a pocket......... those jeans were honestly a symbol of how warped the view on young women was back then
God, this is so true. I was 130 pounds and brown-skinned. I never stepped foot in a Hollister or A&F because the advertising made it super clear that I was NOT the demographic they wanted wearing their clothes. It felt like all the cool, beautiful (white) kids were wearing those clothes, and the rest of us were the fat, unwanted rejects. Like, how did clothing brands ever get to a point where they defined an entire nation’s high school hierarchies?? It’s so validating to see other people talking about it now. There is even a Netflix documentary about it called “White Hot.”
I’m gonna raise the reason why I don’t like low rise jeans coming back: they aren’t flattering and I don’t want it to become difficult to find higher rises that fit my body type better. When high rise jeans took over it was impossible to find low rise ones. I imagine tons of people share this concern-pants shopping is already a nightmare once you don’t have the rail thin body of some teenagers.
Those bastards don’t just look unflattering but they *exacerbate* any hint of a muffin top and you’re absolutely right.. as a kid it was impossible to find “trendy” (not hideous and overly baggy) jeans that fit properly and didn’t show my crack when I sat down and I was made fun of a lot in school. If that shit comes back, I should start stocking up on my high waisted skinnys asap
Was a teenager working in a shop and there was so much bending over, hard to find tops long enough to cover and jeans high enough and I was rail thin. It's not a good look and not modest of appropriate. Remember the whole point of buying knickers with pretty straps was because everyone would see them? 😩
@@zpeters3771 well my point is more so that I don’t want high rise jeans to become difficult to find at stores not that I want to police what everyone else is wearing. It’s not the fault of Gen Z obviously it would be a choice of the fashion industry but I’m just trying to point out that what is in style does directly affect what is available while shopping 🤷🏼♀️
1993 millennial here to pay a compliment to gen z: y'all really hit it with the vsco girl aesthetic. Making comfy baggy/stretchy clothes stylish? Good job!
I dated this guy and he was like 'what is up with all the students and their baggy clothes and MC Hammer pants?'. I was like dude it's the style lol, and they rock it
Yup, this fellow 1993 model agrees with you. I remember getting blisters from my skinny jeans/jeggings when I was a teen - that wasn't a fun time. They did well to skip that.

LMAO 💀 I swear, I've seen some milleanials get so mad that Gen z is starting to bring back things like y2k & 90s fashion. I DON'T understand why that's a problem. Every generation will have it's trends & unique fashion sense. They'll even take from previous generations & make it into something more modern. Who cares honestly?
@@velocity9900 yes, that is how fashion works. I am personally on the high waist pants side, even as a member of gen z, but whatever will make you feel good is what you should wear. I understand the concerns about the body image issues tho. (Also I remember the end of the low rise jeans era and that was honestly enough for me for multiple reasons.)
I was in middle school during the low cut Jean craze, and they were god awful. If you sat down they might ride too low and expose you.... and if you're curvy at all they were impossible to get into.
Preach it! The complete takeover of those pants even extended to games...have you SEEN the fashions in Sims 2 (2004), especially the basegame ones? Like...the low-rise pants and midriff-revealing outfits that make no sense (especially the one with the sweater. Are you cold or not?) were so ubiquitous people made entire mods for white t-shirt underlayers and long untucked shirts.
Yup. We had all these weird ways to combat exposing ourselves. Having a bag behind us or wearing longer tank tops under our shirts and pulling them down when we sat. Gen Z seem generally great they shouldn't suffer low cut jeans.
I mean I feel like people are kind of forgetting that a lot of gen z also wore low rise jeans when they were younger. Like I used to wear them and they were part of the reason why I developed an eating disorder when I was 10.
The whole “gen-z will start a revolution” is so stupid and I can definitely see why it would make someone angry. It’s just a bunch a white teenagers with a savior complex. Obviously, that wasn’t what the millennials were upset about.
As a non-white genz I can possibly see gen z not exactly starting a revolution but bringing in a way better way of doing things than previous generations and many older people have told me this but I get what you mean about the savior complex.
@@JacquelineBahle Yeah like the actual gen-z who will make a difference are out there already or getting ready to. Not excatly spending hours and hours on tiktok saying they are then not doing anything
I totally agree with that point about low cut jeans and the body image back then. Low cut jeans only looked good if you had a FLAT stomach and we’ve gotten to a place now where we’re *slightly* more accepting of different body shapes and sizes. If these jeans come back in the mainstream we’re going to see a lot more insecurity in teenage girls
Yeah, speaking as a Gen Z kid, idk why Gen Z is the "body positivity" generation when most images I see of teenage girls in the media are still the same toned, skinny body type (and usually they're white girls).
I don't think super low rise will ever come back to the point where it will be the only thing available because we've all learned from the past. I do think mid rise will become more popular though
But I don't think my butt looks good in those high wasted jeans, so what do I do? 😥 Edit: I am not for low cut jeans. I just remembered that I recently wore such a jeans and it's waaaay to low. I just don't like my butt in high cut jeans. So I wear something in between or something? I don't know fashion lingo
@@elladrawswell or seeing how they encourage to break the gender roles to guys except if they are POC trans or have another type of body aside from skinny
NOT TRUE! JEANS DO NOT PROMOTE INSECURITY! When low rise jeans make a comeback and they will because fashion is a cycle. They will go and when high rise comes back people remember the days of fashion nova and Kylie jenners and the hourglass figure and the buss it challenge and say “if high rise jeans make a comeback teenage girls will be insecure and plastic surgery will rise again” it’s simply not true. Eating disorders and self esteem do not follow the fashion industry 😂
I’ve always thought this whole debacle was strange. Younger generations will always make fun of the older ones. Everyone wear what you want and mind your own business lol.
People’s lack of self awareness in terms of being the younger generation left out of the older generation’s nostalgia and then doing the SAME THING to the next generation is kinda crazy. Like will that cycle ever be broken or will people forever be saying that kids born two years after them will “never know what good Disney is
I mean I don't do it. I'm an early zoomer, born in 1997, and I hate Tik Tok but at the same time, I don't judge younger people who use the app. I have faith in younger people.
I think it's interesting that it's mostly millenial women and gen z girls warring with each other, when both groups would agree that girl on girl hostility is archaic.
They always talk about being tired of the NOtLikeOthERGIrls trope or pitting women against each other then the first chance they get they do it. It's like watching the war of Karens. Big vs. Mini 💀
Oh, absolutely and both things fall into established misogynistic tropes that have existed long before this stupid "war" started. On the one hand you have ageism which deems women over 25 as worthless, with entire industries just focusing on making any woman over that age to feel like absolute shit to sell worthless crap. On the other hand you have a tradition of labeling anything teen girls enjoy as the worst thing to ever happen (VSCO girls, Justin Bieber, Twilight, boybands of the 90s, flappers and the first it-girls in the 20s, etc. You'll find something in every decade for the past 100 years.) These girls and women got played by the patriarchy and seem proud of it. Kind of sad.
Gen-Z here, this entire situation is one huge, cringy clusterfuck. But it's honestly hilarious how easy it is to piss off adults by just....existing? I guess that's all it takes?

Re: low cut jeans the body acceptance element is a great point, but also they’re so uncomfortable... Don’t miss constantly pulling them up and trying to avoid showing my bum crack to the world. I think the real trend is the decline of skinny jeans in favour of wider leg styles? I can live with that
@@TwelvetreeZ my world and wellbeing improved so much ever since I discovered high rise wider styles. I've stopped growing after 16 and that's where all of my jeans ended up being low rise skinny jeans. I didn't have money for new clothes so I was stuck with them for a long while. My legs are really short, so they were way too long and would fold much around my ankles... That mixed with them being skinny and a little too tight for me after some time made me look so awkward compared to other peers with a more wispy, taller stature. I hate low rise skinny jeans with a passion
RIGHT i deleted it because of that and also because it was taking ALL of my time, but it's so weird because it makes you feel out of the loop or like you're missing out on something you can't get back it's just an app though but it's seriously addicting, there's just too much content
30 is young - very young, actually - but it’s a completely different stage of life than your teenage years. As such, it really does look laughably absurd when you’re fighting with children online. Lol
@@yolandaponkers1581 imagine being pressed over what a 15 year old says when their literally just being teens like making the team or prom or something like let people live lmao
It's not your personality hahah The concept of generations comes from sociology, and it's just to define groups of people around which historic circunstances surrounded their lives (more specifically, the time when they turned into adults) and gave them certain characteristics in common, based of those historic events. So, being a millennial or a Gen Z is not a personality trait lol but we do share specific traits and memories that can put us in a group :) (or in both/neither as cuspers, like Casey)
@@gato_comunista3802 The point they were making is that people treat it like a personality trait but it's literally just the circumstances they were born under. Mocking and shaming people for that is as pointless as doing the same for what city they were born in. They have no control over it and beyond very minor things, it holds no real influence on them as people. People who overly identify with their generation are cringy af, doesn't matter if they're a boomer, gen x, millennial or zoomer.
I think part of the reason people associate specific personalities with specific generations is bc most people are shaped somewhat by whatever media is showing them at the time, so we share some similarities with the other people consuming that media. But people definitely go overboard with grouping everyone and don't realize that everyone is still unique and there's always people who don't follow trends
I was a teen back then and I saw that person's tiktok and they're 100% right. The low-rise jean trend is scary, partly because we don't want to relive that pain and partly because we don't want Gen Z to make the same mistakes. Body positivity is definitely better these days, but it's not perfect.
I didn't think about it but now it's been mentioned, yeah, because my reaction to the idea of low rise being popular again was a very visceral "no please god". It was a horrible time if you weren't the smallest of clothes sizes.
@@nicoler5713 Not only - then I could wear them. BUT they are so uncomfortable on a bike. It is really difficult to wear them in winter without getting a bladder Infection because they look terrible with long tops. BUT today we’re not as dependent from what h&m or Zara is selling as then. As a Teen I literally could not find High Rise Jeans for a while!
I’m a teen right now and, well my body isn’t exactly “perfect”, you know? If I wear low rise jeans I feel so insecure because my stomach is like flowing out over the top of the jeans. I hate it. And almost all stores sell only low rise jeans too! It’s so annoying. I can’t wait until they go out of trend again.
That thing about low-cut jeans really hit home. As someone who was a young teenager during the low-cut jeans trend, it reaaaally messed with my body dysmorphia. Especially since I’ve always been bigger, and everyone who really pulled off those pants was much smaller, but since it was the trend nothing else was available. :/
Tell me about it!! I’m so glad there are more jeans now that come up to the waist. As a kid my Mom would always give me low-cut boot cut jeans. 🤢 Another thing I find weird that I’m part of gen z yet I can relate to the millennials on this topic. Edit: I might be confusing this with mid-rise jeans. I grew up in the 2000s and early 2010s, so my memory on a lot of these fashion trends are very fuzzy
Same :) was in middle/highschool for low rise and it was such a different time, and there was a lot of pressure to be rail thin. It feels like we've taken too many steps forward to go back, but then I remember its not really back. Fashion is cyclical (as are so many things) and us millenials are at that age where we are starting to see things come back. Same thing happened with the previous generations. It can be frustrating to see people pick up something that you feel like you left behind and re-brand it like its new.. but it IS new to them. Right before low-rise bell buttons (flares), we had low-rise large leg and I remember my mom telling me it was recycled from the 60s. Maybe millenials aren't ready for the cycles to be moving so quickly, or maybe everyone has too much time on their hands 😆
I just can’t believe millennials are falling for this. As if they haven’t been fighting against Gen x(or whichever one was before them) for the longest. Do they not remember getting made fun of for Avacado toast and all the other cringe stuff that they used to divide them. If anything Gen z and millennials should be getting along. We have the most in common.
I feel like it was kind of started by mainstream media outlets more than anything else... we just said "hey we like to part our hair in the middle now and we usually wear looser jeans" and buzzfeed was like "GENZ IS OUT TO GET MILLENNIALS THEY HATE YOUR HAIR' when in reality we never even associated side parts and skinny jeans with millennials in the first place.. i feel like we actually just associated it with our younger selves. I don't know why they felt so attacked, because we never aimed anything AT them.
Yeah and ONE girl called them flared leggings, which if you don't know them as yoga pants is a a fair way to describe the pants, and now everyone is flipping out
I’m 37 and feel no nostalgia for things from my childhood. I like being my age. I have hobbies, work, and I don’t really care what gen z is doing. Let them grow up and focus on your own lives.
The body standard TikTok hit the nail on the head for me. Buying jeans was literally a traumatic experience for me in my pre-teen and teen years in the early 00’s because I had a curvy build and literally there weren’t jeans that fit me. Even when I was neck deep in an ED I was bigger than most girls. And when I say I couldn’t find jeans that fit, I was only able to buy jeans from a single store. There were way fewer options than there are now for clothing. I’m currently six months pregnant with a baby girl and I never want her to feel the way I felt when trying on clothes. I never want her to think her body is wrong.
Boomers started calling literally everybody younger than them ‘millennials’ so there would be this spectrum of like, 40-12 year olds being called millennials, so we just sort of grouped together and made fun of old people being so pressed about younger people for no reason. After that we all went our separate ways :/
i love your calm tone, it makes youtube feel less like it always has to be high energy-i hope more people also feel less anxious when watching your videos (:
ok so, that whole revolution thing is stupid, we can all agree. but can yall millenials just let us have our stupid, cringy childhoods? like, you guys had stuff like myspace, can't we just enjoy posting stuff that we'll regret later? can't millenials just be our older sibling generation and make fun of us, but at the end of the day, be the adults you are and defend literal children on the internet
This is actually a good point. Most of Gen Z, at the end of the day, are annoying teenagers going through some kind of phase. I think they should be allowed to be "cringe" because it's part of growing up. I don't understand why people would get genuinely mad at them for this. Make fun of them, sure, but as long as they aren't hurting anyone, what's the point of being straight-up mean?
the whole "gen Z is the revolution" trend really pisses me off cause its almost always some white kid who probably believes that posting a black box on instagram is activism and then they have nerve to disrespect the hard work of the people to came before them.
Dude yeah, it always makes me cringe because they'll make a few POVs like "POV your black friend got murdered" or some tonedeaf bullshit like that and then pat themselves on the back for it. Like no. The Black Panther Party would put you to shame, Mayleigh.
They’re the same as the older generations pushing the narratives of the hippies being revolutionary, the “Indigo child” movement, etc. All generations think they are the best thing.
Okay, I didn’t think that the jeans trend was low rise v. High rise. I thought it was skinny jeans vs. everything’s else. But I also don’t have tik tok anymore haha
eating disorders were extremely common in the y2k era so i understand why some millennials are upset over y2k trends like low cut jeans coming back but everything else seems really petty to me lol
But like the thing I don't get is why they act like their high rise or skinny jeans would be taken away. Like, all the jeans you own will still be there, no one's gonna snatch them from you. You can keep wearing them. They just won't be in style or trendy. If low rise jeans come back there's nothing obligating people to wear them. I'm 18 and own skinny jeans, bell bottoms, high rise, normal jeans, it doesn't matter. We can all keep wearing what we have. Something becoming trendy isn't a mandate that we must participate in the trend. Cómo dice el dicho: de la moda lo que te acomoda.

Also thought I’d bring up that I feel like millennials are probably more sore about this because they were infantilized and talked down to by older generations their whole teen and adult lives and the discourse seemed to go from “millennials are stupid young people” to “millennials are out of touch old people” overnight. Like, yeah they’re being childish but I feel like maybe that’s because they were treated like children well into their 30s.
@Ida I’m 22 and I don’t want any part of this lol. Gen Z is on crack and Millennials are lame. I’m probably closer to gen z because of my younger siblings but even they scare me sometimes lol
I feel like the whole Y2K aesthetic is geared towards people with thin bodies. The 'ideal' the media pushed back then was skinny white and blonde- you only have to look at the 'it' girls of the time, or look up Y2K fashion on Pinterest to see that. I have faith in Gen Z that this time around they will make their fashion trends more inclusive, but the Tiktok algorithms do not seem to be helping that.

Ugly ugly very ugly 🤢
And likewise, one day genz will be offended when a 12 year old calls them old and it hurts because letting go of youth freaking sucks.
As a gen z, I had no idea this “battle” between my gen and millennials was still going on. I thought this was a thing from the past, like a year or two ago.
As a gen z I didn't know this was a thing
Good thing i don't have tiktok
That's why it doesn't bother me that much. Millinnials used to slam Gen Xers for being self centered and stuck in the 80s. There are always going to be younger generations insulting older generations and vice versa.
gen z’er are already old we are in are late teens early 20’s
i don't get why millennials feel their existence is being threatened if gen z brings back an old trend or style. no one is gonna force you to wear low-rise jeans? im gen z and you'd never catch me in low rise jeans because i just don't like them, and that's fine. just because something is a trend doesn't mean you have to participate in said trend. the people who tweeted about hating middle parts or low rise jeans make themselves sound insecure, like they're not confident enough to wear what they want and ignore what's trending or what people have to say. i used millennials as an example bc i honestly haven't seen any gen z person complain as sincerely and adamantly as they have.

You'll find something in every decade for the past 100 years.)
These girls and women got played by the patriarchy and seem proud of it. Kind of sad.

the whole generations concept is so arbitrary like my personality isn’t determined by other people my age 🌚🌚
True. Some stupid people remain stupid after they grow old.
@@primrosett I totally agree!
I swear that half these arguments are started by Buzzfeed.
Gen Z Fortnite kids Zoomers
I was a teen back then and I saw that person's tiktok and they're 100% right. The low-rise jean trend is scary, partly because we don't want to relive that pain and partly because we don't want Gen Z to make the same mistakes. Body positivity is definitely better these days, but it's not perfect.
I didn't think about it but now it's been mentioned, yeah, because my reaction to the idea of low rise being popular again was a very visceral "no please god". It was a horrible time if you weren't the smallest of clothes sizes.
What’s so scary about low rise jeans?
Same, it gave me a muffin top. And I was constantly pulling up my pants every minute. I wasnt even that big either.
True. It's kind of like when there's two siblings that are closest in age. They have the most in common but instead it creates competitive vibe.

you're not alone, millennials thought the same thing when they were teenagers on the internet. and it was stupid back then too.
Fr it’s so embarrassing sometimes lmao, like it’s just a generation, it’s really not something to base your entire identity on
The body standard TikTok hit the nail on the head for me.
I thought both generations were in this together against the boomers. What the heck went wrong?
Exactly. I am completely lost.
Don't forget Gen Xers.
Tiktok and twt
Boomers started calling literally everybody younger than them ‘millennials’ so there would be this spectrum of like, 40-12 year olds being called millennials, so we just sort of grouped together and made fun of old people being so pressed about younger people for no reason. After that we all went our separate ways :/
it's called infighting
i love your calm tone, it makes youtube feel less like it always has to be high energy-i hope more people also feel less anxious when watching your videos (:
ok so, that whole revolution thing is stupid, we can all agree. but can yall millenials just let us have our stupid, cringy childhoods? like, you guys had stuff like myspace, can't we just enjoy posting stuff that we'll regret later? can't millenials just be our older sibling generation and make fun of us, but at the end of the day, be the adults you are and defend literal children on the internet

Exactly, it should be a basic human right to post cringey things that we'll regret later down the line.
the whole "gen Z is the revolution" trend really pisses me off cause its almost always some white kid who probably believes that posting a black box on instagram is activism and then they have nerve to disrespect the hard work of the people to came before them.
I love my high rise jeans. Like the lady from the My Pillow commercial LOVES her Giza Sheets, she doesn’t “just like them”
It is I don’t know where she got this high/low rise thing from it’s much more a war on skinny jeans
eating disorders were extremely common in the y2k era so i understand why some millennials are upset over y2k trends like low cut jeans coming back but everything else seems really petty to me lol
I honestly would have thought we'd reached the point where everyone can just wear whatever they want and not be shamed for it. Guess not....
no one is shaming? things go in and out of fashion tbh it’s not a big deal if someone tells you things aren’t trendy anymore is not rlly an insult
