Some neighborhoods have that one creepy house that no one goes to except for maybe a group of kids who dare each other to go in. This is definitely that house. So spooky.

There actually is a Marsten House in the town that Stephen King grew up in when he was a kid. He and a friend went into the house one day on a dare from a cousin of his. They snuck into the back of the house and wandered into the first floor, and then walked upstairs to the second floor. While Stephen and his friend were upstairs in one of the bedrooms, his cousin snuck into the house behind them and began tapping his fingers on the keys of a piano in the living room, scaring the crap out of Stephen and his friend, who came running down the stairs in terror while Stephen's cousin was laughing his ass off at them. 🤣
The movie terrified me as a kid but in a way that made me intrigued and obsessed with dark and horrifying movie genres! ❤️🤙🤙🤟

I think I saw hubie marsten hanging by his neck . His face green his eyes puffed shut . His hands livid . It was ghastly . And then he opened his eyes . He looked at me .
What's really amazing is that the entire Marsten House was just a two-sided facade that was built around an existing one-story house on a hill in Ferndale, California. It was always filmed from only one angle so the audience couldn't tell that it was fake. The house's resemblance to the Bates House from Psycho with its "Second Empire" architecture is not coincidental. Man, it's hard to believe that it's been so long since 1979 when Salem's Lot first aired.
I want to visit Ferndale sometime…it looks like such a nice little town

I read the original novel before the movie came out when I was 12 on the recommendation of someone else who knew I was a major horror movie fan. King is such a master of style and this novel reads like you were having a dream. While the movie didn't have the detail of the novel, Tobe Hooper did a good job and deserved the Emmy he got for it. It was an instant classic.

Barlow scared that crap out of me as a kid! As always you did an awesome job with this ambience! It’s really creepy seeing him lurking just there in the shadows! Also, this is the first time I’ve ever seen Barlow in front of the house.

Salems Lot ( 1979 ) is a classic! That house freaked me out when I was a kid, funny thing… it was a 3 sided billboard or facade around an actual smaller home which is still there in Ferndale California .. I wonder what ever happened to the wood and other material used to build the three sided facade ? Would of loved to have a piece of it
I would have told them to leave it around the house after filming was over.

Excellent work btw. It’s amazing how many of us were impacted by this extraordinary piece of horror, and how we also seem to have more respect for it than the directors and writers who have tried and failed to remake it.

This is superb. The soundscape in particular is amazing....you know which bit really gives me the chills? The slowed down, ambient chord progression played on a pipe organ. Been playing this in the background a LOT.

If you think the vampires are bad, you should see what freaking lives deep in the Earth beneath the Marsten House.
There was supposed to be a prequel for that. A story detailing Marsten, his background, crimes and Joshua Vahn the architect . But that died by way side a long time ago.

As a big fan of horror films and the Salem's Lot novel, I love the atmosphere of this video but who is going to sit and watch it for 3 hours?
That's not really the intention of the videos I make. You can certainly sit and watch them all the way through if you want, but they are intended to make you feel like you are in a specific scene from a horror movie by either leaving it on in the background or falling asleep to it after soaking up the visuals. Not watching them like a movie, But hey, these aren't for eveyone. They are for hard core horror fans.

Did you hear that the Salem’s Lot movie filmed a few years back will finally be released on MAX sometime in 2024? It will probably not turn out to be the best version of this story, but I’m so relieved to learn that WB is not going to shelve it indefinitely. It seems Stephen King’s public comments after he screened the film must have swayed the execs.
I did. Glad they are releasing it finally. Original is one of my favorite films so I’m not expecting much but we’ll see

Wow, really? Well, if you don't like slow burn 70s horror then you probably won't like it...I love it.
You must . It's not a gore fest like the usual horror films . But it's the atmospheric way in which it draws you in. Also a great soundtrack.
