Man, this is so awesome! There's just something about 80's samplers which just sounds so glorious, and the tal sampler seems to do a really great job at emulating that, at least to my ears (i've never actually used an 80's sampler myself so can't really compare).

I recognize all sounds have a “straight-forwardness” to them that will make them easy to use in a production. No over the top things that will dominate a song.

Its a really good pack, sits really well in the mix and very inspiring, far better than any of the commercial sample packs out there and well worth the cash. The only one in this league is Akai MPC Jupiter Rising Synth Expansion which is also fantastic.
Many of the sounds in this pack is processed a long time ago and then recorded/sampled. I can't remember exactly what I did to all the PPG sounds, but probably chorus.
Like I said, these PPG samples were done, by me, many years ago, I can't remember what gear I used to process hem back then. I mean we're talking 30 years ago.
These sounds are fantastic Espen! My Pacific Deep collaborator Carl and I are both off to buy a copy each, and in the near future we'll be using these for Pacific Deep songs!
Great pack. Been going through them and getting plenty of riffs, which is a good sign! Interestingly, some of the PPG vox ones sound like the Modal 002, though I guess that should be expected. I've been messing with them a bit, I was just trying to make one sound like an Amiga. It's also interesting to play the percussive sounds as really low notes, you get some very interesting sounds that way.
Please tell me the name of the preset that comes in at 0:49, it gives me blade runner blues vibes and I love that sound so much, can't seem to find it in the pack
That's one of the Six-Trak patches. Heavily reverbed and maybe I slowed down the attack even further. Can't remember exactly, but it's definitely inside this pack. All the sounds are. ;-)
Patches sound great - getting some Duran Duran vibes. I've been enjoying my Christmas purchase of UVI's Vintage Vault 3. I pulled up a cool patch for the Kroma 1.5 called Noisy Brassy Lead and instantly started playing a lead line that I cannot name - driving me crazy (G-Bb-G-Eb-Eb-D-D-C-G-G). Thought I would post the question to this forum as I'm sure someone can name it instantly : )
I have all the time in the world for Pat. He puts so much into his work and I have no hesitation in forking over the dollars. Especially after using his old freebies for years. The sampler is cheap and right now so is the Jupiter (-20%) BTW NoiseMaker must be the most underrated synth plug of all time.!
Bought TAL just for this (although I already have their other great plugins). I’d like to eventually add them to my MPC-X library. I’m working on building it into an no computer 80s monster. I’ve sample my Yamaha Tx-816 and my huge collection of drum machine samples. It’s a lot of 80s fun in one somewhat portable box
i know it has different emulations, but if i wanted to emulate the sound of 80s french,belgium style synth disco/boogie, and italo disco would this or something like the diva vst be a better option? I have analogue synths in hardware versions like the poly 800, moog realistic ect, but i really just want that FAT juicy and clear and punchy FM bass.

Try adjusting the release time on the patch. I can't say I've had anyone contacting me about that issue, but there have been a couple of people using a newer update of the TAL-sampler that have had some issues with certain patches. Not much I can do about that. I made this pack on an older version.
The sounds appear to be very good and reasonably priced. Thank you for mentioning the TAL sampler, that comes close to something I could like. A library in WAV format would be better. I guess there are still folks out there who don't run VST plugins.
Sure, but it wouldn't be better for ME, as I strive to make these sounding good in the TAL sampler and releasing non-multisamples "as is" isn't something I want to do. Thanks for checking them out! :) Cheers

Thanks! That highly depends on what I'm going for, the end sound. Sometimes just one note if I want the stretched out characteristics of the sound, with artifacts. Sometimes I multi sample a lot of keys for a more HiFi sound.
I already have some DW-8000 in my PX epic bank out. No plans to do any dedicated big DW-8000 bank, but I'm releasing a bank very soon with lots of D-50 in it. Cheers

I have no plans to make this in another format. The TAL is unique and I won't release these unless another format will make them sound like an old sampler. Only TAL does that imo.

Very interesting, Espen. I use Cubase myself - is there no way these samples can be loaded into Cubase on a sample track? I guess not from reading the descrption, so I'll have to consider getting TAL sampler. Also, I was wondering which D50 and DX7 sounds are included - is it the famous presets? I would love to give this a try anyway.
These are not multi-samples in any way and just importing a C4 into Cubase won't fo you much good. I have a sample pack with drums you an do that with. These are not drums. No, making samples of famous D-50/DX7 sounds wouldn't be very nice. I have sampled many of my best own D-50 patches, those that I sell in a D-50 pack of it's own FOR the D-50. Same with the DX7 although there are a couple of classic DX7 sounds here too, like a tubular bell. ;-)
You can use all the Wav files in the pack to create your own PX patches and sounds yes, but these packs are in the TAL sampler format, so not directly no.
Hi espen, just got the TAL sampler plugin and about to get some of your sample packs. However, I have some sample libraries but I cannot get them to load in the plugin. I can’t seem to load normal .wav files (I am using the most recent version). How do you convert samples to talwav format? Do you just need to rename the files? The new version does not seem to let you import/load anything other than .talwav files.
In TAL you have to make your own presets by importing Wav-files. You put these together, multi samples (if you have those), key mappings etc and then you save this as a TAL preset. This will now have the extension *.talsmpl I have the latest version and it works just fine. I did my last pack with it. The manual is very clear on how it works.
@@EspenKraft Thanks! Lot’s of menu and button clicking, but that’s alright with me. The menu option to convert wav to talwav wasn’t showing up when I first installed it, but it is now.

They are already available as PCM(Microsoft WAV). I guess the TAL-stuff is the extra metadata for organizing multisamples, etc. This will load straight into my S6000. Example from the pack below: $ file Espen\ Kraft\ Digital\ Collection\ Vol1\ TAL\ Sample\ Pack/Soft\ Brass.wav Espen Kraft Digital Collection Vol1 TAL Sample Pack/Soft Brass.wav: RIFF (little-endian) data, WAVE audio, Microsoft PCM, 24 bit, mono 44100 Hz Eh..dit. Sure my S6000 won't swallow 24-bit samples! But after reducing them to 16-bit in Audacity, the few I've tested sound great!
Sure, if someone wants to use the Wav-sample themselves that's up to them, but since these are not multi-samples, they won't sound as good in any other soft sampler.
@@EspenKraft I ask cox I was curious if you think it really sounds like a Fairlight. I think it sounds a bit too clean sometimes, though much of the time it sounds really good. And of course, it's not very user friendly. The TAL sampler looks considerably more fun like that.

The only restriction on the demo is that there's some white noise that appears once every 60 seconds. So you can try it out for a good while before buying. It's around 60 EUR and traditionally 40% off on Black Friday. Pick up the demo version and some decent samples (I found a good Fairlight CMI sample library free somewhere) and have some fun

This is awesome! Just so you know, I've been listening to your music starting with "Don't Go" th-cam.com/video/CtTxajkgRdM/w-d-xo.html for some months now, and while playing it one night and zoning off to a musical sleep, as apple music is playing similar songs, about an hour into my musical nap this song came on that woke me straight up like "who is this?" I got up looked at my phone it was "Those Days" by, you guessed it, Espen Kraft. Awesome song.
You could double the price and it would still be cheap. Your actual sales figures would barely change. Sounds very well sampled and volume matched. I suspect I might show this off in a course I'm doing for Sonic Academy soon ;)
I bought this kit, the samples are of very poor quality so cannot be used (quantization noise like 8 bit). I am very disappointed, I like Espen your channel ... :-(
You kidding? Can't be used? Sorry to hear it. I use these samples in my own music and I can't hear anything wrong with them. You do realize this is a pack of samples meant to emulate the sound of old 8- and 12 bit samplers?

For the more raw authentic sound of the 80s, I only use the TAL sampler if I'm using any plugin.

Very interesting, Espen. I use Cubase myself - is there no way these samples can be loaded into Cubase on a sample track? I guess not from reading the descrption, so I'll have to consider getting TAL sampler. Also, I was wondering which D50 and DX7 sounds are included - is it the famous presets? I would love to give this a try anyway.
These are not multi-samples in any way and just importing a C4 into Cubase won't fo you much good. I have a sample pack with drums you an do that with. These are not drums.
No, making samples of famous D-50/DX7 sounds wouldn't be very nice. I have sampled many of my best own D-50 patches, those that I sell in a D-50 pack of it's own FOR the D-50. Same with the DX7 although there are a couple of classic DX7 sounds here too, like a tubular bell. ;-)
Can I use this in the prophet X. Do you have any synth packs I ky purchase for the prophet x?
You can use all the Wav files in the pack to create your own PX patches and sounds yes, but these packs are in the TAL sampler format, so not directly no.
Are the Samples also included in the Wav Format in these Packs?

Hi espen, just got the TAL sampler plugin and about to get some of your sample packs. However, I have some sample libraries but I cannot get them to load in the plugin. I can’t seem to load normal .wav files (I am using the most recent version). How do you convert samples to talwav format? Do you just need to rename the files? The new version does not seem to let you import/load anything other than .talwav files.
In TAL you have to make your own presets by importing Wav-files. You put these together, multi samples (if you have those), key mappings etc and then you save this as a TAL preset. This will now have the extension *.talsmpl
I have the latest version and it works just fine. I did my last pack with it. The manual is very clear on how it works.
@@EspenKraft Thanks! Lot’s of menu and button clicking, but that’s alright with me. The menu option to convert wav to talwav wasn’t showing up when I first installed it, but it is now.
I didn't even know there was an option to convert anything, not how I use TAL, but whatever works. ;-)

No, that won't happen.
They are already available as PCM(Microsoft WAV). I guess the TAL-stuff is the extra metadata for organizing multisamples, etc. This will load straight into my S6000. Example from the pack below:

Eh..dit. Sure my S6000 won't swallow 24-bit samples! But after reducing them to 16-bit in Audacity, the few I've tested sound great!

Sure, if someone wants to use the Wav-sample themselves that's up to them, but since these are not multi-samples, they won't sound as good in any other soft sampler.

I'm curious, have you tried the Arturia Fairlight?
Never. I have a great collection of samples I did on a Fairlight for the Akai S1000 way back in the early 90s so I'm good in that department.
@@EspenKraft I ask cox I was curious if you think it really sounds like a Fairlight. I think it sounds a bit too clean sometimes, though much of the time it sounds really good. And of course, it's not very user friendly. The TAL sampler looks considerably more fun like that.

TAL Sampler costs 60 USD
The only restriction on the demo is that there's some white noise that appears once every 60 seconds. So you can try it out for a good while before buying. It's around 60 EUR and traditionally 40% off on Black Friday. Pick up the demo version and some decent samples (I found a good Fairlight CMI sample library free somewhere) and have some fun

This is awesome! Just so you know, I've been listening to your music starting with "Don't Go" th-cam.com/video/CtTxajkgRdM/w-d-xo.html for some months now, and while playing it one night and zoning off to a musical sleep, as apple music is playing similar songs, about an hour into my musical nap this song came on that woke me straight up like "who is this?" I got up looked at my phone it was "Those Days" by, you guessed it, Espen Kraft. Awesome song.

You could double the price and it would still be cheap. Your actual sales figures would barely change. Sounds very well sampled and volume matched. I suspect I might show this off in a course I'm doing for Sonic Academy soon ;)

I bought this kit, the samples are of very poor quality so cannot be used (quantization noise like 8 bit).
I am very disappointed, I like Espen your channel ...

You kidding? Can't be used? Sorry to hear it. I use these samples in my own music and I can't hear anything wrong with them.
You do realize this is a pack of samples meant to emulate the sound of old 8- and 12 bit samplers?
