    Yes yes, love these tutorials on how to approach old-school 90s techniques with software vsts. Big thumbs up for Tal-Sampler content as well, definitely buying the sample pack

    It's weird but there is such a particular quality when you pitch shift down with sample playback. It's like *plays pad on analog synth at lower register -> sound gets farty"* whereas *plays sample of analog pad at lower register - sound gets a particularly airy quality with some girth to it*

      No doubt! One of the big reasons for using this over your default DAW sampler (and why people still use those old samplers)

      Same technique is how Mutt Lange got all those wonderful drum sounds, especially for Def Leppard Hysteria. The snare was three samples two drums that weren't even snares, pitched down to give them that thick 8bit sound. I believe they used the CMI for all the drums on that album. But he's reused that technique in many albums he's produced and it's amazing sounding.

    great video! the fade in control should help erase loop clicks afaik.

    Awesome vid! Thanks!!
    TAL has saved me a small fortune by not buying a bona fide 90s hardware sampler... prices these days are ridiculous!
    I'm still scratching the surface with TAL but it's tutorials like yours that get me back in the music chair, so thanks again!

      cheers! appreciate the comment and watch. no doubt prices are insane these days on all the classic gear. tal-sampler is as fun as it gets ITB while still bringing back some of that old school sampler charm. great VST for the price. hope you enjoy and are able to crank out some tunes with it

    Lovely stuff! Also if you just play one note and record that, you'll get a different sound when playing back the samples as a chord as each note of the chord will evolve at different speeds creating a different but cool effect. Both very useful!

    A top trick for perfect looping I nicked from someone years ago is to open the file in an editor like Audacity. Just select a portion of the file, cut it, and paste at the start. Then the end of the sample loops perfectly with the start, but you have a click in the middle. Now select a few seconds either side of the join and use the 'crossfade clips' option from the effects menu. Voila, a perfectly looping file. Obviously that doesn't work if you just want to loop a sustain section, but I just loop the whole lot then use the sampler's envelopes to make a smooth pad 😉

    Hi thanks for all these tal sampler tutorials and the tal drum, i just got the set, one thing i wanted to ask is some of the areas on your sampler are different to mine, maybe this is a slightly older version of it ? I've subbed too 😊

    As opposed to modulate it UP or do it DOWN, how do you set the Modulation to ROCK back and forth....up and down. I guess that's a stupid question. I suppose THAT is simply setting an AUTOMATION in my DAW. Sorry, I'm trying to follow along

    Cool tutorial however you know you didn't have the LFO in effect in the end, yes? You put the LFO rate up to 13 beats, that's more than three bars. The subtle sweep you heard was actually from the sample itself not from the cutoff LFO.

    Do imget correctly that since youre using Cmin after sampling and playing D note you’ll get D min scale? So every note will change the sclae?

  • @christopherbryan4199
    @christopherbryan4199 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you know how to change the skin/colour of the Tal sampler? I've looked on their website and it says it's possible, however when I looked in the manual there's no mention of how to do it. The new update looks really ugly and I'd rather change the colour to anything else. Great tutorial as always!

    • @Thought-Forms
      @Thought-Forms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chris, thank you! I'm actually not sure how to change the skin on the newest version, though I'd agree - much prefer the look of the older one. I'll send them a note and see if there is a way to do it

    What is the best way to use Tal Sampler to sample lets say a Reese Bass? So say i use serum and hold down the C note and bounce it to audio and then put it into Tal Sampler?

    • @Thought-Forms
      @Thought-Forms  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You got it, & loop the bass in Tal-Sampler so you can hold down longer notes if needed

    Quick question, why didn't you record that sample in the key of C, I beleive the root note was F in the chord you played ? I saw you set the sample from C3 to G7 but wouldn't it be out of key with other melodies you play accoriding to scale? Really nice tutorial otherwise!

    Just curious, is it not possible to do any of this in bitwig's own sampler?

    • @Thought-Forms
      @Thought-Forms  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sure! bitwig's native sampler is pretty powerful - it's not a 1:1 for identical tool, but conceptually it's similar in that it's a sampler. really any DAW will have a built in sampler. I'd say tal-sampler was purpose designed to mimic old school sampler workflows whereas a native sampler will typically be better integrated in your DAW and provide a more modern workflow

  • @Joggeson

    This might be a dumb question but when I sample a chord and then it is pitched down/up and drawn all over the different notes of a keyboard are the notes of every key played still representing the true note that it was originally played at and can I still play all the key of one scale with each other?
