The Dark Pictures Anthology Games Are More Connected Than You Think!

- This is just a quick video to talk about my recent revelation that all the Dark Pictures Anthology games might be more connected than we originally first thought.
After playing House of Ashes I really started to come up with a "shared world" theory that connects all three of the current games together.

In the last reddit Q&A the devs confirmed that the curator does have a story that will play out across all 8 games. Paired with the fact that ''The devil in me'' is described as the season 1 finale, I believe that at the end of game 4 we'll be getting a big revelation/cliffhanger to his story(Because why else call it a finale). Anyway I'm glad tha someone is finally talking about this!
Also there is a title that they trademarked called O' Death so you are without a doubt right.
The "Oh Death" game logo has the Curators picture off to the side. I can't wait!

The whole plot twist of what the creatures really are in House Of Ashes honestly gooped me so much, I loved it.. looking forward Devil In Me and Season 2 so much.
Devil in me was by far my favorite
They're definitely connected as in each game you can find a hidden collectable that hints at the next game in the series. Basically in Man of Medan you found a collectable talking about the Witch Trials that happened in early 1600s Massachusetts hinting at Little Hope, in Little Hope you found a collectable talking about soldiers who survived a battle against monsters in the Middle East hinting at House of Ashes, and in House of Ashes you can find a mural of people dying in a hotel hinting at The Devil in Me.
The premonitions have footage from the next games, too - Little Hope had a cutscene from House of Ashes from when they're climbing down and the rope breaks, and in The Devil in Me there's a scene set in space where a hull breaks open and two people in space suits go flying out - evidently that's for Directive 8020 (or whatever the numbers are, I can't remember off the top of my head, but that's the first game of season 2).
I'm sure there are others but those were the two I've actually seen myself
There are actually many clues pointing forwards and backwards to other games! Medan had references to Little Hope, House of Ashes, and Brad's story references The Devil In Me!
In Man of Midan, there's a collectable that talks about the archeologists who went missing in the Zagos mountains the 1940's.

Curator = Death's himself
In game since Man of Medan he observing characters from shadow or some place they hard to see him (maybe they can't see him at all but player can). he usually appear when there is event that characters could die by failing quick time event or consequence of choice, Death's himself just come to collect souls or guide them or whatever he want to do with them, who knows. one cutscene in house of ashes show that his face reflect to lighting appear to be skull. also intro song is "conversation with Death" so player just have some bed time story telling with Death's I guess.
another thing at the begin in US base one of the US newspaper show news about execution of serial killer thats the clue for the devil in me, It's about story of murderer who believe to be the first serial killer in America.
Great shout about the newspaper in House of Ashes! You might notice it’s called American Overseas which is the same name as the newspaper in Man of Medan. The modern newspaper also has an advert for Singing Nickel beer which is seen in the bar in Little Hope. 😏
You could be on to something with the curator being death. Because if you look ahead to the titles of future games they want to put out with the Dark Pictures Anthology brand the last game is titled “O Death”

The name Bradshaw is one of the priests in little hope! I am supper convinced there is a bigger conspiracy with the Bradshaw's at the centre. (Lady Bradshaw sent the archaeologists looking for the tomb. In one of the notes the archaeologist questions if she knew about this place all along)
I think the curator is Death aka (grim reaper) and he is telling the story of all of his most interesting stories that he has witnessed.
The bus that struck the car of the protagonists of House of Ashes is the driver protagonist of Little Hope. Then the protagonists of Man of Medan are the same ones on articles with Until Dawn, following the newspapers and article of House of Ashes. As well as the scientists studying and researching paranormals
I played Man Of Medan and my theory was that the games were all connected stories, in the same universe and we're written as one interwoven story.
The narrator is honestly my favorite character just because of his whole thing, I think he is an overseer of your stories being written by a player or AI, I haven't had that part fleshed out though.
I'm hoping to get House of Ashes and Little hope when I have the money, so I'm really excited to see how the world progresses

@Villager While the atmosphere was perfect, they ruined it with the goofy fake jumpscares, and bad story (wich started great, but ended horribly)
I think these shorter stories allow the development team to experiment more, and move on to the next great thing quicker.
But i respect your opinion, there wouldnt be any Dark Pictures games without Until Dawn, and it has its own decent moments, sure.
I also think that Little Hope (based on John's playthrough) had a pretty boring gameplay but the story and the twist was phenomenal. (Still Kinda dumb with the witchhunter past time storyline but i can forgive them, especially because after just one year they delivered another great experience with House of the Ashes)
Here's an idea. The Curator is like a Nick Fury but not trying to gather a superhero team. The Curator is trying to help you put the Zodiac killer puzzle together through all the games using hints. The curator is always saying it's not his place to assist you (meaning the devs don't want to give you the answer but slowly lead you to it).
The true villain of the series discovered alien tech and apparently used it throughout his or her life to cheat death and cause death, using a type of gas that effects the mind so much that unreal thing become real to the mind. Perhaps the Curator wants to catch his target who has escape him for more than a century. Perhaps the aliens in House of Ashes were the first clues to what he had plain for humankind.
Man of Medan had the gas which came from dig sites in Iraq
Little Hope had the main character create images of his dead family either by accident or he stumble upon an essence used in the magic which was gas or script in the killer book or the evil pastors book associated with the killer. The killer probably worked inside the Diner that Rachael stop on her way through Little Hope. The killer probably knew about the pastor's lineage and lead him many deed s of destruction to infect Little Hope through the pastor and others.
House of Ashes had an alien species and the names of the archaeologist who found the dig site were referenced in Man of Medan as well as the Little Hope Diner scene and the bus crash that cause Eric to lose a leg. The bus driver from the game Little Hope was possibly under the influence of the gas, enchantment, or the power of the killer in the Diner as the bus hit Rachael's car.
My guess is that one of the diggers is the true villain of the series who has survived for more than a century and brought death and destruction for many generations, using knowledge of what he found in the caves. Like Until Dawn, the Curator might be talking to the killer, but fragments of his personality who are new individuals that need to experience events to unlock the truth.
It's a stretch but I think the Curator is trying to grim ripper the killer/killers or catch the killer/killers before sending him or her, or them to hell or purgatory, while at the same time trying to save humanity from an ancient item that may destroy humankind as it contributed to the deaths in Man of Medan and the town of Little Hope to fall into dark times.

Playing these games in movie night mode with 4 friends is a fantastic experience

In Little Hope he states that deaths not so bad and mentions that he meets everyone once.
Later on he references a quote by Oscar Wilde and mentions that he met him once in France, Oscar Wilde died in France.
All the characters look a bit the same you know, the proffesor of liitle hope looks really like the commandant in house of ashes

I played all these at launch with the same friend and they have just gotten progressively better IMO.
Medan was great but a little disappointing once you figured out the twist; Little Hope was amazing and I loved the story/setting/mystery.
Ash totally blew me away more than I was already expecting from what I had seen and my preconceptions about the story; really impressed me with the bits I was expecting and then totally shocked me with some unexpected events later on, really enjoyed the game so much.
I was aghast when I read some of the achievements after finishing and seeing some of the crazy things that can happen and unexpected directions for the story
Even if you don't get the support I still think you should do it the Theory you have could possibly be amazing if they all tied together the way you think they do...... Cause I see more to the story too my friend and theirs always the creator whats his story in the plot when its all said and done
I have a theory on how the curator might be the father or sun of Dr. Hill they look similar
I like how a lot of the details that seem to connect them together are very "blink and you'll miss it." Allowing for those disinterested to enjoy them as self contained events. In turn, that vagueness also giving the replay value of the games more longevity as people look for more details, and shoot for the different endings. One could even speculate on how the title's of each episode connect them. Medan is the capital of Indonesia, which could hold significance to the next game The Devil In Me, we'll have to wait and see. But based on the ones that are out, House of Ashes and The Devil in Me as titles seem like they obviously tie into Little Hope. Particularly the the opening house fire (House of Ashes), and the loose ends of an obvious demon following the girl around having started the fire, in spite of what the plot twist ending implies (The Devil In Me). I have a feeling that the goop and other stuff found deep underground in House of Ashes ties to the "Manchurian Gold," as well as the later post-credits scene from Man of Medan. Possibly also being the reason for the bus driver's hallucinations within hallucinations in Little Hope. Another one that may have just been a coincidental accident is that Salim in House of Ashes mentions that his son is set to go to university in the UK, and laments "if only he'd stop stealing." In Little Hope, Daniel is sarcastically asked by his girlfriend if he's some kind of thief, and he says, "in a past life." Not sure if Daniel is supposed to be Middle Eastern, but Little Hope is definitely in the US regardless, not the UK. Plus, the plot twist curbs any plausibility to that theory anyway. Smaller, potentially coincidental details include each game having a cast of 5 protagonists that we play as. 2 of the currently released games having military ties. 2 of the currently released games having a foreboding fortune spoken to one of the characters before tragedy strikes. A bit of a reach, but the candles of the Curator seem like they hint at details in at least 2 of the games. In Little Hope, there's only one candle lit possibly pointing to the bus driver plot twist. Then in House of Ashes, there's 5 candles lit, and one flickers when the curator is talking about Rachael's fate. Stephen King references out the ass.

Sooo Im not done with house of ashes but i just notice that man of medan and house of ashes bothes background storys start at the world war. So in man of Maden the transport some boxes which got hit by lighting and all were going crazy. WHAT if in those boxes are some of the dead body of the monsters from HoA? So after they got saved in MoM the army notice there where some bio shit what got lost. And try to find out where it comes from. Thats why Eric (which seems to live in little hope) and his team serach for this bio weapons in HoA.

I do understand why people didn't like Man of Medan, but House of Ashes is so freaking underrated... definitely deserves more... so i'm definitely in for more videos and theories about the dark pictures universe, would be very interesting ;)

We really want to know more about the Curator. He wouldn't be in all of the games breaking the 4th wall maybe 🤔 or just being the main characters story Teller which is us in each game -takes breath- if he wasn't connected to all of them.
so i think they started off really strong with Until Dawn (and ive already given away my opinion of the series as a whole) then we had Man of Medan which was okish then we got Little hope which i Hated, but let me explain my reasoning, so MOM was interesting as it kind of blurred the lines between was it supernatural or was it all illusions (or maybe a bit of both) we also see the Curator for the first time not just in his parler but in the background of the game watching events take place (for anyone thats been watching Marvel's What If? i thought of him as kind of like the Watchers) then we got Little hope and it started off quite interesting as while MOM was science based LH looked to be going full on Supernatural agan right up to the end and it felt to me like it was meant to be ghosts and that it was changed right at the last minute and they changed the ending to fit the new idea, it felt like a full on bait and switch.
then we have House of Ashes and ive not seen the game yet but from the teasers im not sure what ill feel i guess my mind will have to wait to be made up til after ive seen the full game but im not holding out much hope after the last two have disappointed me.

Myself, my wife, and my younger brother play these games. We came to the conclusion that everything in this “season” is totally connected through the curator. We seen all the little easter eggs especially having played the previous entry and we appreciate content like this. Stoked for The Devil In Me.
Also, as an aside, just finished The Quarry. Excellent game. Wanted the game to have an actual ending as opposed to the written explanation and the podcast changing at the end credits depending on clues collected, who lives etc.
If anyone hasn’t played it yet, The Quarry is highly recommended.
I’m pretty sure at the end of House of Ashes the guy in hazmat suit says “this is just like winterfold all over again” and in the new leaked game names for season 2 there’s a game called winterfold.

This is incorrect. The time line doesn't actually match. Car crash was 2000, Little hope is 2019

Took me 3 playthroughs of House of Ashes to realise that the "Accident" at the start of Little Hope which makes the bus driver go through the town. Was the car crash from when Rachel was in the car crash with her husband in House of Ashes.
So I actually checked this and the car is different. So it’s either an oversight or not the same crash.
But since we see things repeating in Little Hope I would guess there have been a few.

1. I don't think he's trying to write a story or create one In fact I would say the other way around. He's giving us these self-contained events these memories and histories. They have a concrete beginnings and conclusions, their aspects and instances inside of them that no matter what we do we cannot change certain outcomes we cannot save certain people. And while the stories are connected the events of one at least up to now are not affecting the events in others even in a butterfly ripple effect their self-contained. It's a fruitless activity really he knows at the end of the day how these things end and that our choices don't actually make a difference. All the while encouraging and trying to guide us through them for the purpose of attempting to change things or do things differently, even though once again he knows that in the end the different choices we made really don't matter all that much because we still can't affect certain aspects no matter what we do.
2. Dismissing holy not a correlation, but actually reminds me a lot of the giver. We have a lowly mysterious individual who seems to be intent on showing us something or preparing us for something trying to just a lesson while also refraining from giving us any blunt or straightforward response if any kind. I'm like he's doing things so that we discover what's going on ourselves as opposed to him just being completely transparent. That would explain a lot of his frustration if he sees a struggling or not understanding the big picture and he's sitting across from us and literally can't do anything to make it any clearer for us would be incredibly frustrating ... So what I don't know if he's helping us or neutral I don't really think he's trying to hurt us for the time being.. I think he's likely preparing us for something possibly to do what he does in a "dread pirate Robert's" handoff kind of way. Or to prepare us to use this knowledge to attempt to change or fix an overarching much larger story that we're operating under right now without knowing it.
3. They're pretty clearly seems to be some governing body above him who is decided that this is something that we need to do and he is going to be your guide. Clearly he is deferring to them, and we for whatever reason don't seem to be pushing him for an explanation of any kind. Granted when we are"talkinh" with him real silent anyway.. but even so there will be times when he responds to us as if we have asked him what's going on, however he is never reading any attempt to really speak to those watching over all of this. That's another factor clearly there's a supernatural arc to him but he's also clearly deferring to the guidelines set up by those in charge. And even though he seems to very much be sticking to his guns in terms of what the protocol is he has helped us in a few occasions which needs me to suspect that maybe they're not watching you over what's happening completely, in other words they're not watching to a degree where he cannot pass us a potential hint or a cryptic message. Essentially their surveillance of everything happening with us and him in the stories for the time being is not complete at least not as of yet. Or they're just allowing him to break the rules for whatever reason. Give himself more rope to hang himself with or something I don't know.
4.I'm really interested in that shot of the monument at the end. animation and CG being what it is along with game development there aren't really instances of accidentally leaving something in a shot, that shut out the window is there absolutely on purpose. Now Washington DC is a hub for secret societies, cults, legends of supernatural mystical or occult behavior or events, symbolism secret passages all sorts of mysterious crap the blanket the city and our integral part of The city's history. Not to mention it is the seat of this country's power and while two of the stories have taken place overseas it's been with predominantly American characters so those in charge having a home base in the US would not be far-fetched. So the people running all this being in the city that also runs the entire country wouldn't be out of the line plot wise. From there just add in all of the conspiracy theories about secret societies the occult ETC again it would not all be out of line for an organization like that to be based somewhere like Dc, potentially going back as far as the founding of the country in the first place.
,5. Anyway I feel like he is preparing us... Maybe taking over his position in a mortuary assistant or dread pirates Robert scenario, but bloodier. Or maybe there's an overarching event that is having a ripple effect on everything else we've done so far and we're being prepared to try to go through that to see if we can change things even though thus far we've been show very clearly that in the grand scheme of things we can't change things. It feels as if he's already training us in a futile action. With the intent of maybe throwing us in another seemingly a futile scenario with much higher stakes.
I would like to see it. I've kinda suspected it and would like to see how you approach it

What's interesting to me is that the curator is having a conversation with us in each game. But he does point out that he hasn't met "us" between games. So who exactly are the "characters" we play as? Why are we here with him in the first place? Why are we even helping him "write" these stories?

this anthology is so fucking mysterious and interessting and i love every single game in it. eveen the not so good ones. the atmosphere and the mystery of the curator and this "playable horrorfilm" thing is just fucking spectacular. i hope they will never stop making them ^^

I watched mr robot, and now joshua makes so much sense, if you dont know joshua have schizophrenia real one, since he was a kid not only after her sisters died. He was miss diagnosis, and his treatments are for depression. And as game theory said he was the only one that could not lead death to others, he was the real victim of this game. I wonder if until dawn is connected. Now that house of ashes show us real demons,maybe even aliens? I loved little hope, it was a refreshing gender style, horror is not only about gore and kills, it's also about this horrible story of someone who felt guilty all his life and more. Now the new game coming out damn it looks horrible, this reminds me of the collector, it shoked me when because it's the first time some horror movie goes that far same for the sequel the collection, saw is really not big deal in terms of twisted stuff. I'll love to see how far they'll go. I hope they dont go generic stuff, until dawn only for joshua is way more than a teenage generic horror movie.
In one of the pictures that show the deaths, a scene from house of ashes is in little hope
pretty sure that Until Dawn is part of it as well, cuz its the same deal, same curator, and better yet, in the ending where you tell the brother his dead sister is a wendigo, the survivors get interviewed by what seems to be a military personal and theres 2 soldiers that find the wendigo form of the brother, it seems to be the same military personal that shows up at the ending of House of Ashes

It's not hinting that it's the 5th game, I think they're hinting about something to do with the actual game itself like the storyline or something because The Devil In Me is their 4th game. In all games they've hinted symbols out in the Curator's books and/or in the title of the games. The Devil In Me had a geometry compass in the game title and in the Curator's book, House of Ashes had an eclipse in the game title and on the Curator's book, in Little Hope they had some sort of stick figure in the game title and in the Curator's book and I think there was also a symbol on the Curator's book for Man of Medan as well.
I don't know how true it is since I've only heard about it from a friend who showed me a screenshot of something that might have looked like the Curater when we were finishing it but apparently there is a scene near the end of House of Ashes where he's just sort of watching things play out from the background in the Cave area.
It's like a split second thing when Eric is reaching for the ropes but there's something in the background that just sort of vanishes and it's got the both of us replaying it to see if either of us can spot him anywhere else.
Tell me if I'm wrong.

in house of ashes, the car crash that eric and rachel had is the accident that caused the bus driver in little hope to divert into little hope that the police man spoke about in the beginning
It’s not. I checked the cutscenes in both games and the car that causes the bus to crash is different. Nice theory though!
