One of the things that is so good about your work is you aim for beauty _and_ utility. I once watched a paper craft video of an item that looked lovely. I made it and realised that after you stripped away the packaging all that left was a bulldog clip and half a post-it-note pad🤨 I think a handcrafted item should always aim for the beauty and utility I have always seen in your work.
I am amazed at how much you get for your beautiful things. I live in South Carolina and people I know want pay that much. Although, if it has somebody’s name on it, they will pay a lot more than it’s worth. They’re paying for the name not the item. Anyway, I do a lot of sewing to sell. I also do ceramics to sell. Sometimes I am amazed as well Diana. In the early days, I didn't think people would spend good money on items as I always thought about what I would do in that situation, but have since realised there are many people out there with a different mentality, and have no problem paying for items that I may consider to be overpriced. These days I'm more comfortable putting a higher price on my items knowing I have the luxury to drop the price later if items don't sell 😀
I made a couple of tablet bags before watching your video and was delighted to pick up a few tips e.g. burning the webbing and applying zip tabs. I'll now try making another one incorporating your techniques. Love that you keep your videos real and confess your mistakes! We're all human 😉

Hi, me again. I made the bag, added 2 inches to the width for my work laptop computer. It fit in the 2nd pocket Yay!!! However it didn't fit in the main pocket. I couldn't get it past the zipper tabs. I don't know what I did wrong, but I am going to make it again. I really enjoyed your video and thank you so much for showing me how to make this bag. No one teaches like you do and I have made several of the items you have tutorials for. Was looking to expand my range of items to sell in my very niche market, and you have greatly helped. My husband likes me watching your videos as my practice has yielded him bags to hold his tie-down straps for his trailer (the box bag made from faded heavy canvas), heavy chains (the shoe bag made from old blue jeans) and other "tool" bags. And I've actually sold some doggy poo pouches and shoe bags made with niche fabric. Thank you soooo much. Can't wait to get these on my website.

oh glad to see this one! Ive followed you since you posted in one of my upcycle groups. I keep reviewing your videos. I want to add to my products. I dont make entirely like you do as I dont buy extras like hardware etc. but I have my way of using buttons and making straps. Just the main bag constructions help me out a lot! I use a lot of jean materials since everyone in town gives them to me!
Great product and great work!! The value comes from the market in my opinion. Priced right at $45…. People say “ I love your bags” and then they buy them. If they’re looking at one of my $55 bags and pass it’s because it is over their personal budget and that’s ok they will buy what they like AND what they can afford because they’re getting a well-made, good quality bag that’s useful for them or to give as a gift. I consider that some bags take hours to make… if that’s the case because of the size or design… the price goes up. Or if I break a needle and cuss! Haha up goes the price 🤪

Catching up on some of your older vlogs I’ve missed. This one is very interesting though. It’s a great make. To get your price slightly lowered and you not beating yourself up about it, how about if you left out that extra pocket with the Velcro? I would think 2 zip compartments ample. My heart was hurting for you with the unpicking but I must confess it did make me feel a little less like a failure about the amount of times I have to unpick 😂 I was wondering if you could show us your industrial machine, I have been thinking of getting one, I make dog collars, but I don’t know much about them. I only need a straight stitch but needle threaders, thread cutters and fast sewing etc sound wonderful. What did you look for when you wanted to buy one?
I did much more unpicking than I was willing to admit to on this video. I've been thinking about discussing my machines in a video, my reasoning for choices, what I'd do differently etc. I'll try to get on to this very quickly 😀

christine thanks for sharing i have a question I see you use not a thicker tooth zips for these. i have a few in my inventory that are chunky tooth zipper that i want to use but am worried about how to sew over them even when adding a cloth ends ,do not want to break a needle or my machine any tips please on how to use these types of zippers
Hi Maxine, As long as your zippers are nylon and not metal, you'll be able to sew over them. The tabs will help a lot. I quite often turn my handwheel over by hand until I'm certain that my needle won't break. If it goes through fairly easily, then I'll very slowly go back and forth over the zipper. The zips I used here are slightly chunky, and worked ok.... The other thing you could do is make a longer tab, and cut some of the nylon teeth off the ends before placing the tabs on. Of course, this will make the bag opening a little smaller too. Hope that's helped 😀
I absolutely love this tutorial out of all the tutorials that I've seen on TH-cam for making an iPhone bag. What was the mistake that you said you made on the front piece, where you said you had the wrong piece down? I'm still trying to figure that out is what you are saying okay in that part of the video? I'm so nervous and I don't want to mess up so I just want to make sure I understood where you said you made a mistake on the front piece. Thank you!
Hi Christine - thanks for such a great channel. I have made a few items of yours and a couple of them I have done amendments to - looking at this video for example to help me make an iPad pocket for inside a handbag my daughter designed and asked me to make as a birthday present. Just wondering what the best forum is to provide feedback and pictures to you on for your products? Facebook?
If I use furnishing fabric, I don't use any at all as there is enough stability in the fabric. If using cotton fabric, I'd use light to medium Pellon if you want some padding, but I'd usually just use light or medium weight dressmakers interfacing. Stabilisers are really personal choice dependant on the finish you're after, and how much your machine can take 😀

Great video Christine, thank you. It looks quite straighforward to do. However, I wonder, what size is the iPad you made this bag for, please? Mine measures just under 10" x 7 1/2". Would your fabric measurements work for me, or would I need to adjust them? If so, how much extra would I need to allow on each side for 'space' and for seams, etc? Many thanks.
Karen, mine was one of the first Ipads that came out over 10 years ago. (I keep misplacing it) I would allow at least 1" clearance all the way arround, and then add seam allowance to that as well 😀
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs thank you for your help. So at least 1.5" extra on each side (maybe 2"), and, a little more at the top and bottom, to accommodate the zip, without it scratching the item. I'm also considering making mine using the other orientation (ie portrait rather than landscape). I don't believe it will affect the fabric requirements nor construction. Just the zip sizes.

As the fabric was medium to heavy weight, I've just used a regular dressmakers iron on interfacing. In the upholstery bags, I don't use any. If I used cotton, I'd probably use light weight Pellon 😄
That’s a lovely bag, ideal in this day and age,my grandchildren go everywhere with their I pad. About the price, my daughter at Xmas went on line to buy my granddaughter a case for hers.Made out of denim,recycled old jeans,as the kids are all into recycling and saving the world,this company was asking £95 English pounds .Only had main bag with zip and a trouser pocket from old jeans at the front.Maybe you should get a label stating you recycle and you could up your price.That about 165 Australian dollars

Haha, we should charge double for all those needle breakages 🤣🤣
What a great idea to use double-sided tape to secure the Velcro(hook and loop tape), before sewing in place.

Just a little tip for stopping fraying on the ends of the straps, I use a soldering iron
Good idea Christine. I have a soldering/cutting iron for these straps. It cuts and melts at the same time.😀

What type of interfacing or stabilizer did you use?
If I use furnishing fabric, I don't use any at all as there is enough stability in the fabric. If using cotton fabric, I'd use light to medium Pellon if you want some padding, but I'd usually just use light or medium weight dressmakers interfacing. Stabilisers are really personal choice dependant on the finish you're after, and how much your machine can take 😀

Mine measures just under 10" x 7 1/2". Would your fabric measurements work for me, or would I need to adjust them?
If so, how much extra would I need to allow on each side for 'space' and for seams, etc? Many thanks.
Karen, mine was one of the first Ipads that came out over 10 years ago. (I keep misplacing it) I would allow at least 1" clearance all the way arround, and then add seam allowance to that as well 😀

So at least 1.5" extra on each side (maybe 2"), and, a little more at the top and bottom, to accommodate the zip, without it scratching the item.
I'm also considering making mine using the other orientation (ie portrait rather than landscape). I don't believe it will affect the fabric requirements nor construction. Just the zip sizes.

I'd add 2 inches to size of your device for wiggle room😄

Laptops come in different sizes, but depending on size, I'd allow an extra inch top and bottom😀

What stabilizer did you use?
As the fabric was medium to heavy weight, I've just used a regular dressmakers iron on interfacing. In the upholstery bags, I don't use any. If I used cotton, I'd probably use light weight Pellon 😄
That’s a lovely bag, ideal in this day and age,my grandchildren go everywhere with their I pad. About the price, my daughter at Xmas went on line to buy my granddaughter a case for hers.Made out of denim,recycled old jeans,as the kids are all into recycling and saving the world,this company was asking £95 English pounds .Only had main bag with zip and a trouser pocket from old jeans at the front.Maybe you should get a label stating you recycle and you could up your price.That about 165 Australian dollars

Have you made or consider making a laptop bag/case?
Yes Tammy. I usually do custom orders for these as the laptops vary in size. I make exactly the same pattern, just bigger😁
Cost me $$65 for mold and $150 per 100. This was for silver, I'm yet to get the other colours.
The freight was what made them expensive. They would only use one company for delivery, even though there are cheaper options 🙄
