In the beginning: I love colombia, people say its dangerous but forget those people. In the end: Just don't use your phone, don't bring your cash, don't go out at night... in matter of fact don't do anything!
This is how it is in Buenos Aires in terms of phone, jewelry, and money. As long as you don’t do certain things, you will be safe. The problem is that people in America live in a bubble and expect to every country to be like the USA, so they count money out in the open, use their phone without paying attention to their surroundings, cross streets like if they own them and cars will stop for them, etc.
Thanks for making this video!! As a local, I might say that people might be aware of all those things to make the experience of visiting Medellin an amazing time
Great Video. Having been to Colombia many times your advice is spot on. However, I love Colombia as there is so much to see in do there. Also Colombians in general are very friendly and have great hospitality. I always feel like a rock star there.
I ain't hopping into any Fake Taxi while in Medellin unless Quinn's in it. On another note, thanks for the helpful tips. Going to check out the 10 Dos vid now.
I don't think i'll go there anytime soon, you listed too many regulations to go there, i think i'll be in panic mode all the time, i don't think it's healthy to vacay like that.
I definitely wouldn’t put it into a vacay category, definitely more for a cultural experience type of trip! It sounded very overwhelming for me before I left and felt anxious prior , but when once I got there everything just became common sense and I ended up absolutely loving it!
Colombia has a level 3 travel advisory (Ukraine has 4) . American and European tourists are being robbed left and right. If you go to the police, you get laughed at. Don't go there and spend your precious money until they have reforms to protect tourists.
Left my phone in a taxi in Medellín (not my finest hour), the driver kept it safe and got it back to me the same day. Please don't listen to the stereotypes, the vast majority of people here are honest and some of the kindest I have met around the world
I felt safe when I was on walking tours and In groups, but I definitely wouldn’t have any flashy cameras, a go pro could work if inconspicuous. We opted for leaving the camera gear in our air bnb
@@Itsbigdaddyquinn yeah because I do have Go Pro and just a cheap camera and cheap phone I use that for to film I know I wouldn't bring out iPhone out that's for sure but I do want to to film places like Piedra De Penol Parke Arvi places that would probably be safe area I could film and take pictures

And in January THE NEW YORK TIMES also included Medellin among the 50 best destinations in the world in 2023. In addition, TIMEOUT declared the LURELES neighborhood in Medellín the coolest in the world in 2023. NOMADLIST also listed Medellin as the second preferred Latin American destination for digital nomads in 2023. ❤ Medellin is the #1 city in quality of life in Colombia, it has already surpassed Cartagena in international tourists, also Medellin is an intelligent tourist destination and is a special district of science, technology and innovation.
You are downplaying the crime in colombia. Ive been to over 30 countries. Medellin is by far the most dangerous place ive been. Ive been there about 5 times. The crime there is no joke.
I really didn’t feel unsafe in Medellin when I was there. I kept my Witt’s about me and I had a good time. I knew plenty of people who had also been and loved it. Talked to many people who moved there from the US and Europe because they loved it. I can’t say about other parts of Colombia, but Medellin, I had no issues. To each their own. Cheers.
You don't negociate a taxi in Medellin. You pay the meter. Partying in Communa 13 after dark is far worse then using your phone on the street. And for goodness sake, dress how you want
Uber is illegal in colombia, cost more and less safe. If you get pulled over you and the driver will have to pay at least a 1-2 million dollar fine. Real yellow taxi drivers are registered with the govt.
I used Uber the whole time I was there with no problem at all! It did have a lawsuit due to tax issues which is why they enforced that, however, Uber is still alive and well , some taxis even use it. It’s also much cheaper from what I had experienced.
@@Itsbigdaddyquinn That's like saying i bought drugs, used them, and never had a problem. You're just lucky you did not get stopped. The smart uber drivers ask you to sit up front with them to reduce the chances of getting caught. yellow taxis are everywhere, they are reliablle and cheap plus you don't have to have a pretend conversation to make sure your social score i mean uber rating is fine. Uber is still illegal here. I know people that have gotten fines within the last couple months and they are very expensive.
I do appreciate your input, and definitely great for others to know and keep in mind when they go. I was just sharing my experience. Thank you for sharing yours!
@@Itsbigdaddyquinn We can agree to disagree then like civil people. I also was just sharing what i know to help others, no disrespect to you. I grew up in nyc during the 80's - 90's so yellow taxis are just something i have always done.

99% of the people in Colombia aren't bad people just because someone looks dirty and is homeless doesn't mean there criminals. Always remember this if you haven't eaten in two days you would be out robbing also. It's pure desperation. Don't blame the citizens blame the governments for stealing all the money.
I come from a country where people are starving everyday as well, even though I do agree with you, I do feel like robberies in this country are higher than other countries who are also at the same level of struggle 😊 but thank you for your contribution! I do not think Colombians are bad, I made sure to praise how fun and wonderful they were. Because I have met many! Including my partner who was born in Colombia.

El Machetico and another is El Bunelo.
Any ideas about hotels when I arrive?
I didn’t stay in hotels while I was there, I did Airbnb so I could have a more local experience! But kayak and Expedia are my favorite for hotels :)
