After the rise of the Empire, Hondo knew that eventually someone would want to take care of him. In addition, he was after the war with other pirates, so his forces would not be able to resist. He said goodbye to his companions and after some time became a smuggler. His weakness is clearly visible here. He needs others as soon as Ezra showed up he trusted him with everything because he just wanted to talk to him. Hondo is lonely. As for the sentence "One of my friends was a Jedi", there are several candidates: Kenobi - the most logical for obvious reasons. Lots of interactions. Kenobi has helped Hondo many times. Anakin - although he doesn't have as many interactions with Obi-Wan in the series, he does have them in a few books and in Hondo's series he probably said "Skywaker my friend" Ventress - During the war with other pirates, she helped him a lot. She used a yellow lightsaber at the time. Even though she told him she wasn't a Jedi but a bounty hunter Hondo knew better
It's clearly kenobi lol. since this came out right after clone wars, it's based on the things that were displayed in that series, and kenobi is the jedi that hondo was most friendly with.
I'm not gonna lie when I did watch this episode I was hoping for Hondo to talk about Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, but I guess everyone keeps to themselves in Star Wars lol. At least we got to see good ole Hondo.
The droid's in the episode are IG-RM bodyguard/enforcer droids. They are more commonly known as the IG-RM thug droids and sometimes known as the IG-RM war droid, or IG-RM assassin droid.
2:43 nice call back to Empire, in Bespin, when the door closes and R2 can't go with Luke, right before him facing Vader. Hondo has the funniest lines in Rebels, lol. Such a joy to get him back, the lovable pirate! When Hondo mentions that he's pretty sure he was friends with a Jedi, I like to think that he's referring to Obi-wan or Ahsoka, mainly because his most memorable outings involve those two, namely facing Maul and the Kyber heist/Circus performance. Also, I'm pretty sure Rex knows Hondo based on all their encounters with Obi-wan, Ahsoka, and Anakin. Either that, or Rex was still on Onderon in the final episode of that arc when Hondo delivers the rocket launchers.

I’m glad they used the same voice actor, it made the change in his appearance easy to get past.
