    3rd week sober.
    Benefits so far.
1: I drift off to sleep now! Some nights though I'm still awake for a bit but I put that down to the changes my bodies going through.
    2: more energy
3: body feels firmer & stronger.
4: joints feel alot better especially my legs and knees.
5: face looks younger, firmer and healthier with a rosy glow.

I quit drinking for 7 years in 2005. My life was a mess and getting no better. I had the presence of mind to quit. I started again in 2013 and have worked my way slowly into 3 drinks a nite at minimum ever since. Already did the heart attack and bypass surgery several years ago but stayed relatively healthy at 65. Then I realized I've gained 25 lbs and I cannot get it off due to the alcohol. The alcohol sugar and lack of self control make it impossible to shed weight. Also blood sugar was rising, causing fear of diabetes. So, I quit again 2 weeks ago. Ive already lost 10 lbs. My B.P. and heart rate are down 20%. My glucose is back at normal levels .I feel better physically but also feel empowered because I really didn't know If I Could quit again. That's quite positive. Good Luck to us all on this journey. Keep God or a higher power at your side. Just discovered ur channel and appreciate its message and brevity.

Everything was just bottomed out
After that I realized booze wasn’t a problem or answer - it was all just a cover for much bigger issues of codependency and self pity.
I found my way after treatment to peer support groups like Alanon and AA where I heard my own story coming from other people when they spoke- I related to them , they all understood what I was experiencing- I made new friends , Hope was restored and so much more
I’m happy today which is a far cry from where I was
I find spiritual solutions to my problems today - in the word spiritual is the word ritual - it’s my daily rituals which keep me going today - I work on myself in order to be a more open minded, loving and , tolerant person today
      Honestly that keeps me motivated

25 days today, starting to feel like my old self again. What baffles me most is when my girlfriend told me months ago after I had relapsed after being sober 7 months I had quit again for like 2 weeks or so. And I remember my friend not answering my calls, he was driving some real long 6 hour drive and it was raining real hard so I called him to check up on him. And I told my girlfriend that I was worried about him, and she said something along the lines of 2 weeks ago, you weren't worried about anyone. Just crazy the things alcohol does to one's heart.

The scariest for me is what I called my "fluttering heart" and it used to make it hard for me to breath too. Did I quit? No. I also had bloodshot eyes all the time which I don't really know why that is. I assume it is vasodilation. I took me 8 years to stop. Years ago, Barbara Walters did an interview with Jackie Gleason. A legend in comedy and arguably one of the funniest of all time. He was well known to be a heavy smoker and drinker and lived to be 71 years old. During the interview Walters asked him about his vises to which he replied (paraphrasing here) I could quit now and live another 5 or 7 years and be miserable or keep it up and live another year and die happy. This was back when times in this country were good.
I drink copious amounts of beer. I can go without it for a week or two at a time but I drink a shitload of it non the less and have most of my life since I was 17. I’m 56. Beer is the only vise I have.
The bottom line is this. Whether you drink or smoke how it effects you is 100% controlled by genetics, and I’ll die on that hill. That’s why some people can smoke like a freight train and live into their 80’s and some never smoke and die of lung cancer. ALL genetics. Now I will agree none of it is good for you I get that. But the way this country is going down the shitter at such a breakneck pace why bother quitting? Seriously. If you enjoy it AND it’s not wrecking your life then do what makes you happy. It ain’t getting any better folks and it’s not going to, believe me. You gotta ask yourselves a question. Lets say you quit and live to your upper 80’s or even 90’s? Are you going to be able to take care of yourself by then? Probably not. Got anyone that’s going to have the time or the ability to take care of you if you become widowed? Probably not. Are you going to have a shit ton of money saved up to go to an assisted living facility if you can’t take care of yourself? Probably not. My mother is currently paying over $6000 a month for her ALF!!! Out of pocket!!! You think this country is going to be what you always knew it to be 30, 20, or even 10 years from now? I lay awake at night thinking about what it will be like in 20 years. My first wife dropped dead right in front of me at 49 years old of a brain aneurysm, my father who I loved dearly passed away and I lost a $75k a year job all within a two year bracket of time. Beer gets me by. I like the Jackie Gleason approach. Keep it up and die happy or quit and watch this whole world go to shit sober and miserable. In case you all haven’t been paying attention there’s a lot to drink about!

Wow, this is the comment I didn't expect, but glad to see it. Not because I'm looking for a non quitting comment, but because you are right. My dad said if he quit smoking and drinking beer, it would just prolong his stay in a nursing home. Not a healthy way of thinking. And he did pass in 2018 at 62 from lung cancer, and I feel like that's too young, and I miss him. I'm now 45, I love craft beer is my downfall I even brew small batches. I quit smoking 100% I tend to drink more moderate than my dad, and the rest of his family all died from cancer, so it's in the history, which is scary. I'm going to quit, at least to a point where I might enjoy one craft brew, say, on Thanksgiving, and maybe some weekends here and there. I don't want to be unhealthy. Good luck to all of you awesome people.

I gotta agree with you. I drink everyday ( beer or wine), probably too much for my health. But I’m 71, have had an extremely interesting and wonderful life. Never had a DUI, never been fired or divorced ( married 43years to a woman who no longer drinks - she just lost interest in it ). My doctor says my liver is fine, bloodwork is excellent. He also attributes it to genetics.

I like drinking and have been doing so for the last 40+ years. I do it socially and enjoy sharing time with other people doing the same thing. Sometimes I just drink a little, sometimes I drink a lot. As I’ve become older the drinking a lot events take longer to get over and I dislike the periods when I feel weary, tired and unmotivated. I’ve reached the stage when I much more enjoy the sense of feeling well, energetic and motivated. When I’m like this I get much more done and feel happier. I am now putting in bigger gaps between visits to the pub and feel healthier and happier for it. Fortunately I don’t have any chronic problems that I’m aware of, but I have broken my ankle and suffered a few other small breaks and injuries from booze associated mishaps. I’m generally well exercised which probably helps and improves my sense of well being. I’ll probably keep drinking for the sake of my social and mental well-being but will continue to scale it down as I get older to retain the benefits of feeling healthy and not suffering from a ‘lost day or two’ as time is better spent doing something useful with the added option to have one or two at the pub if I feel like it.

I’ve been 7 years sober now, from the age of 15 - 31 I was a binge drinker and heading for alcoholism (sneaking a can of Stella the morning after had stated to creep in) plus I was a terrible drunk, always doing embarrassing shit, waking up and realising what an idiot I’ve been. That plus I worked in the Hepatology clinic of a hospital - I started to realise I was next in line for a bed there. Took a bit of will power and a few false starts but I eventually got there. I’ve had 3 promotions at work, own my own place now and have a wonderful partner. I don’t even miss booze now - it was quite hard for me to sit in a pub for a few years, but that doesn’t even bother me now, I can sit with my ginger ale and chill.

An alcoholic barman in my local pub drowned in his own blood when the varices in his throat ruptured. He was 42. He turned up for his first shift when the pub reopened bright yellow after spending months at-home drinking white cider during the Covid lockdown and the landlord sent him home. Within hours he was dead.
I gave up drinking years ago. I have no intention of taking that poison again.

I have the opposite problem. Getting out of bed when I'm hungover is way easier than waking up normally. I want to stay in bed because I wake up more relaxed and drowsy with less anxiety. Hangovers actually force me out of bed earlier in comparison.

A guy on tiktok said that if you're a woman, you might want to update your will if you drink 3 - 5 drinks a night, 5 to 7 days a week, as that's all that's needed for liver failure. He lost his 45 year old wife due to liver failure, she drank a few drinks most nights (didn't get drunk, just drank to unwind) for 20 years. 😮

They interviewed a 106 yr old WW2 veteran and asked how he was able to live so long.. He said " I drink 2 whiskey drinks a night and have a bowl of ice cream, every night".. Then the interviewer asked "how does that help?" The vet replied" Because it make me happy". The moral to this story is moderation.. If you get passed moderation then quit... Never drink so much to where you cant drink again...Why?? Because it makes me happy as well so ill stick to my 2 bourbons a night..

I was never into drinking, I even went like two years without drinking and didn't even thought about it, but after the pandemic struck I started to develop an habit, very casual at first, but during the last six moths really started to get out of hand. Never got even near to the stage depicted in this video, but I think it's not about how much you drink or for how long, but how much affects your life and how much you struggle to quit, and I started to have troubles spending more than a week sober, and once I started I drank more than what I was planning to. During the last few days I've had a lot of troubles but nevertheless I'm glad that I'm not even thinking about touching the bottle to ease the pain, just the thought of it makes me nauseous. Quitting, even if you never was a full-blown alcoholic, it's hard, but in every step of the way you develop the strength to face the hardships of life without drugs.
