    I have been to Europe and especially Romania many, many times over the past 12 years. I don't share my videos on TH-cam but I definitely watch a ton. I've noticed how I've grown, matured and learned so much throughout my travels. It's almost like a person just gains knowledge without trying to. It's an odd thing. Not sure if you can really see it or not but from when YOU first started vlogging up until this point, you're almost a different person. So much more knowledgeable, so much more mature. That's an amazing thing to witness.

      I 100% agree with this! It is so crazy how much you grow and learn about others and even yourself when traveling. It’s give you a chance to trust yourself & gain confidence. You do become a completely different person! Such a cool experience and something amazing to recognize! Thanks for sharing your thoughts here!

      @@sierramarie Absolutely! Like I've said, I have been to Europe and mainly Romania several times over the past 11 years or so and have learned through conversation and general life experiences that I have matured and learned so much. Just watching your videos, I've seen how you have done the same. I'm still journeying through your videos since I am moving to Romania in particular. You've kind of been my "go to" throughout this process. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

      It’s really interesting now after having traveled so much, if you get in conversation with a new person, you can immediately tell who is traveled and who is not! The conversations look vastly different, from what you talk about and even how many questions they ask. Have you also noticed that?
      I cannot wait for you to move to Brasov! I’m so glad that my content has been helpful for you- that really means a lot to me. Thank you so much for supporting my channel! 😊

      @@sierramarie You're more than welcome! Like I have said, everything has been very beneficial. I feel like you have been instrumental in setting the stage for the biggest change I've ever made. I grew up in Texas but then moved to Nebraska. I thought that was a huge change but going from Nebraska to Romania is far more of a change. I don't leave until November but I would love to stay in touch and let you know how my experience is. Like I've said, I don't really do the whole vlog thing and maybe I should but I'm a pretty private person. Not sure I should be that way since I could probably help people with their transitions. Did you spend much time in Brasov?

    • @sierramarie

      Moves in general are always great- moves abroad are really life changing! Amazing opportunity!!!
      You should consider vlogging your journey for sure- vlogging for me became a safe place & the community has been so kind to me! Also, it’s the best to have those vlogs to look back on as memories. To see the growth over time is really cool! You could always record even if you just keep it on your phone- something to consider though 😊 Sadly, we didn’t travel to Brasov but everyone has great things to say. I wish we would have seen it before we left 🥺

    Hello, Marie.
    I lived in NY and I was shocked that people greeted me on the street.
    Like any European (Romanian citizen) I tried to have a normal and warm conversation, I thought it was flattering to talk to a foreigner but after the greeting the answer was "I have work".
    Total SOC.
    I felt abandoned. :))
    America is a big country, it tires you.
    It seems to me that there people live in a self-induced stress. Hysterical even.
    Anyway, continue with this kind of comparisons, we all learn from them.
    AAA, don't forget...
    Pajamas:))))) God:))) it froze my mind the first time:)))

      The cultures are definitely so much different- I’ve noticed the same thing since being back in the states. You could chat with strangers in Romania no problem- having kind genuine convo & here it’s like you have the plague if you try to talk to strangers in public! 🤣 it’s sad & can make you feel lonely. I’m sorry you experienced that 😟
      Absolutely true that the stress is self-induced and completely supported by the culture norms (work, family, friends all praise being over worked & busy beyond belief) it’s sad to me, but I refuse to let that be my personality again 😊 Thank you for commenting & supporting my channel! I always enjoy hearing your insight!

    In Romania, the Banks advise you not to leave the cards in plain view so that the information on them can be read.
    If you have the information of a card, you can very easily buy things on the Internet with them (now it's more difficult because online shopping is also checked on the phone in most cases).

    as a romanian, im not a fan of america's tipping culture, like dude youre getting paid, you have a wage, talk to your boss to increase your salary, im not obliged to give you my money i worked my ass off for nothing, when the services were weak or average, like most of the time, not on time etc, like you dont do shit for those money, in nordic countries for example tipping will be used as an insult to the restaurant and to the employees
    im happy that romanian/european tipping culture slowly dissapears because the inflation is crazy and people think twice before tipping
    lifes rough especially for poorer people, tipping is the last thing they think about

    Hello Sierra (or Marie? ):) That "taking your card in the back to pay" is something that would bother me a lot. It happened to me only in the US and in Mongolia (in Mongolia it was really strange as it was in a supermarket, not restaurant)... I didn't like it. In Romania for instance if there is a small restaurant, etc, and they don't have a portable POS, they would ask me to follow them to the bar and pay myself there on the wired POS. They would never touch my card. I wonder why aren't they doing that in the US, if they don't have portable POS (and I also wonder why they don't have portable devices :) ). And they could also use their phones (here it Romania I payed a few times just by touching my phone to their phone, instead of a portable device)...
    One small comment if I may, the background music is unnecessary in my opinion, for this kind of videos, the music was kinda loud and I had to pay more attention than usually to understand what you say :)

    • @sierramarie
      @sierramarie  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’m really curious why they take it to the back as well- maybe as a convenience?? Although- paying right at the table would be the most convenient in my opinion 🤔 Also- thank you for letting me know about the background music. I will remove it in the next one ☺️

    This is gonna sound kinda aggressive but I worry the tipping culture is starting to become the begging culture and spreading to everyone in the US. Even on social media they are adding tip.
    Prescription, you don't need one for everything and you can also ask the pharmacists for help/advice as they have a Uni degree in pharmacology so, while not MDs, they can help a bit - they can't write prescriptions though.

    • @sierramarie
      @sierramarie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a very interesting direction we are moving! Yes, pharmacists are the same in the US- being able to give help without writing an RX.

    • @realjx313
      @realjx313 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sierramarie Overall, all the problems, it's ultimately capitalism reaching the end of the road. It has been optimized too much so it doesn't and can't function as designed anymore - the players know it's better to trick the system, they make more money that way so there is no competition anymore, there is no real innovation anymore- innovation costs and adds risks, safer without if no real competition.
      The US just focused more on money than most others. China to some extent did that too and there are negative consequences. One example would be how quickly marriage has become not so fashionable in China and how that impacts birth rates. Another, everyone wants in tier 1 cities and condo prices are absurd there nowadays.
      What would replace capitalism, that's unclear and for the most part people haven;t realized that the capitalist era is over. Ofc the end of capitalism is being considered in the context where robots do all the work and they are smarter, faster and cheaper than humans. Anyway, we (the world) either shift to another system or things kinda collapse and then we are forced to shift.
      Right now the world is functioning at 5% of its potential at best.

    One must remember that there is a massive cultural difference between here in Scotland to that of countries elsewhere in Europe, point being is that one couldn't classify Europe like the way the United States is. Europe is made up of individual countries who all have their own individual cultures. Whilst there may be similarities between some countries, you'll find it changes from place to place.
    A good example for this is when I went on holiday to Rome in 2012, or even Verona in 2018, you'd see people out at night time sitting around fountains enjoying themselves out in the heat, which does not exist here in Scotland. As it rains a lot here, you'll find a lot of people are indoors, and drink is a very big part of Scottish culture, and that's just touching the tip of the iceberg.
    Visiting places for a short spell would never really give you enough to go on, but for Romania as you would have lived there for a year, you would have picked up on cerain things for sure.
    I cannot say I've been to the U.S. to pass judgement, but I would believe that there are some differences state to state and certain parts of the U.S. i.e. the American South being famous for being friendly and welcoming in comparison to its northern counterpart.
    Interesting video, Sierra, nonetheless, I hope you's were treated well regardless of where you's went.

    I know to some it is a detail but totally agree about the sparkling water! Coming from Slovakia where we have so many types of mineral natural sparkling waters, I was shocked to find out that the whole huge USA does not a have a single one? (not talking about carbonated water now). Even the one I see in all US stores is imported from Dolomites, Italy. Why is that? Is it illegal in USA to bottle american sparkling water?

    • @sierramarie
      @sierramarie  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In my opinion I think the USA can make more money on pumping drinks full of sugar and flavor that make you more addicted. VS regular sparkling water won’t have all the extra chemicals and additives! Also, maybe it depends what part of the USA you visit? In the Midwest it’s much harder to find and on the coasts a little easier I think!
