Thank you for being here! WELCOME TO ROMANIA :) I am so grateful to experience life, learn and grow with you! XOXO
Hi Marie,
Can you share some website for rent apartaments, studio or rooms. Thank you in advance
This is the website I used! www.imobiliare.ro hopefully that helps!
Buying plastic bags at grocery store is common all over Europe. The story of Dracula was written by a Irish writer.
Welcome to Romania ,i love see a lot of people move in my country 🇷🇴🇷🇴🇷🇴 god bless You 🥰
Multumesc ☺️ Such an amazing & beautiful place! Grateful to be here 🙏🏻
I'll be moving to Romania too....i'm working hard and saving money to move there 😁
That is so amazing! I’m excited for you ☺️
I love ur beautiful country so much, I hope to spend my next vacation in Bucharest, but I don't know how to go about this.
Flights to Bucharest are really easy to find- you can use Wizz air for cheap flights & Airbnb or VRBO have great rentals!
Good luck and I hope you enjoy my hometown !!! Looks like you are in Cluj-Napoca, where I've spent 21 years, before I moved to US..24 years ago (7 years in Orange County ,CA and 17 in Phoenix,AZ). We enjoy visiting Romania almost every year and I am sure we will move back some day.
We absolutely love Cluj- such a wonderful city with so much to learn and experience! So awesome that it is your home town ☺️ & I’m glad you are able to visit often! It’ll be cool to see how things will be different if you move back. So many new buildings going up in Cluj!! Thanks for sharing your experience with me!
I am very close to making the move there. I just came back from spending a month in Bucharest and Brasov. Love the people and everything else!
You totally should!!! Such a life changing country and underrated. I agree the people are so great & it’s so beautiful here. Keep me updated! I want to know if you decide 😁
I would definitely choose Brasov vs Bucharest
@@TwinAAadventures Brasov is Beautiful. I wish I would have spent more than a weekend there! Next time!
The term gypsy had become a controversial word because people who don’t know anything about Romania tend to confuse Romany people for Romanians who are completely different people.
Romanians tend to hate being associated with the gypsies/Romany as their culture is often anti-sociable or irregular and many of them are more prone to commit crimes as a result.
Thank you for providing that information- I appreciate the insight!
Correct but not all gypsies are doing harm: actually a few like in any ethnicity.
Btw I'm not gypsi so no biased at all just objective.
@@fpostolache i have to take a deep breath when i see people like you defending them ... must be some sort of stockholm syndrome ... i never knew one that had a regular job , or that pay taxes , or that don't try to scam you in some way sometimes even using violence. anti-social is a very mild term ... i will not go into a debate here , not the right place for it , but when i saw your comment i really had to take a deep breath and calm myself down . please dont be a simp .
@@fpostolache you mean the majority
@@alternativemedia7114not at all.
I've had tremendous coleagues gipsies.
Cannot judge an etnicity by the cover.
Note that not I'm not gipsy: maybe I am roman, trachian, turk, cuman, tartar, polish, greek, hungarian etc.
One could never know.
Great video! Thank you for sharing that information with us.
Thank you ☺️
Its funny to see the foreign reaction when they come to Romania, and they see that we dont have 3 legs, 5 hands, we have iphone's, we Have modern appliances. And so on. This makes me wonder: who lived under a rock: romanians or the foreigners? :)
i think patric in spongebob did
😂😂😂😂
True. An old Italian asked me if in Romania we have cars and we still live in tents. Poor people.
Whoa…. 🥲 How did you respond to that?
Plastic bags at supermarkets used to be free but the government forced the stores to ask money for them in order to reduce plastic waste.
I love this! That’s how it should be everywhere. Now I find myself struggling with armfuls of groceries (if I forget my reusable) because I refuse to use plastic bags 😂
În UK as well, you have to pay for the bags at the supermarket.
Sweden did the same thing, they did an investigation and it found out that the plastic bag tax had absolutely pi$$ all in positive effect. Only real good thing was that a supermarket started selling cute pink shopping baskets, I bought two of them for 10USD (helped allot with avoiding plastic bags that cost 70 cents each).
@@sierramarie Buy a few shopping baskets, I have 4 shopping baskets in total. Two smaller one's and two larger wheeled one's.
@wariods3588 that’s an interesting investigation! And I totally agree about getting the reusable bags or the shopping basket is such a good idea!
Good luck! I hope you feel welcome 😊
Thank you! 😊
You look Romanian. Feel like at home! 🇷🇴💙
Thank you for your video.
Thank you for your sharing
Moving abroad without an adapter! How American. As a southeastern EU, I can assure you that sarcasm constitutes 90% of our communication. It is all about intent and situations. If not expected, it will definitely be considered information sharing.
And bags haven't been free on the east coast for years now, the Midwest is lagging.
I appreciate good sarcasm 🙌🏻 Interesting about the bags on East Coast- thanks for sharing that, I didn’t know that was the case! I Appreciate your comment! ☺️
Thank you for this video - taking our first European vacation to Bucharest in September. Will definitely remember to bring my own reusable bag for groceries. 😊
I am glad you found this helpful ☺️ That is so exciting! I hope you have an amazing trip ✈️🧳
Nice. And also true
You have to pay for the grocery bag because it's supposed to encourage an eco friendly attitude. Bags used to be free, but the policy obviously worked and people bring their own textile bags.
I definitely think that method works! I’ve seen that done here in the states- very few and far between. I think it will catch on eventually!
Helpful
Thank you
I am so glad you brought the comment about gypsy. I don't understand why they take it to a higher level. This is a topic that my husband and I are constantly talking about. We're currently in Florida USA. We're moving to Romania in the very near future. Thanks for the tips on the grocery bags. I have some that are thermal and was debating if I should pack them or not. 😉
That is such an exciting move!! Have y’all been to Romania before?
Definitely pack the thermal bags!! I actually brought mine back from Romania because I love them 😂😂
Do not pack thermal, pack otrher things. The thermal ones can be bought in Romania. Plastic bags ARE NO LONGER FREE, if available, in whole EU. A way to keep the natrure clean and fight the climatic changes.
Thankfully they are widely available if it can’t fit in the luggage 😊 I refuse to now live my life without a reusable thermal bag 😂 If I forget my bags at home I will carry my arms full of groceries home 🤣🤣
@@sierramarie Take a cardboard crate from a shelf and put your groceries inside and carry...
Just don't ask any Romanians if they are Gypsies (Roma) or if the capital is Budapest and you will be fine.
May I add to your list: we have a muchhhhhh better internet Speed. Also, as u experienced, products date when do expired are day/month/year. In US is month/day.
This is very good points to add!! I know there are definitely more things too! Maybe I do a part two 🤔
Shopping bags, at least after that first shopping trip you had bags enough for a few days 😋😆
Thanks for the story, I am european, want to move to RO but never dared only visit sometimes, so good on you for taking an even bigger leap!
It was such an incredible experience!!! I hope one day you make the leap too 😁 & yes I definitely had enough bags lolol
I enjoyed this video. I am also considering between Romania and Czech Republic. My plan is to relocate next year.
That is so exciting! Both have such beautiful qualities. We visited Czechia over Christmas 2 years ago! The people are so kind and the architecture is so incredible!!! I can definitely say the same about Cluj-Napoca, Romania. I can’t wait to see what you choose!
@@sierramarie thank you so much 😊
Since 2014 in California you also have to buy or bring bags to the grocery stores.
Love that- I wish all of the US was this way!
No. 5 goes hand in hand with no. 6. When no. 6 is up no. 5 goes down.
❤
Amen 🙏🏾
The grocery bag thing is becoming more common in the States. Its been like that in Oregon for years already.
I agree! More stores are trying 🥳
Gonvermnet "burocracy is a little slow" is a bit of an understatement, and this is coming from a Romanian native.
Thank you all for the informative video! My wife and I are volunteer teachers in Lviv. We had considered exploring Europe before heading back to Oregon to see our grandchildren. Your videos are very helpful in our journey. Thank you!! We are now considering extending our stay in Europe by a month in Krakow and a month in Romania. My wife has MS, so, a country with highly qualified neurologists is desired. What is your opinion about healthcare for senior travelers in Romania? Thank you. Dean
How much fun! I hope you’re able to stay longer to explore Europe some more! Nothing can compare to the memories made when traveling with someone else you love. ❤️
As far as healthcare for seniors in Romania, I don’t have much knowledge. I had one experience with the healthcare system where I received a general exam, and had a good experience. Also, my expat friends in Romania had Lasix & gave birth, all with good experiences. I’ve heard good things overall (& know it’s affordable) but didn’t have a lot of personal experience! I hope that is somewhat helpful for you!
@@sierramarie Thanks for the response.
Not sure what your wife's needs would be during such a short stay but I wouldn't seek treatment in Ro. Definitely not outside Bucharest. Not to offend anyone, but I compared my parents' treatment in RO to the one in NYC.
❤❤
2:36 we're not in Kansas anymore 😂
👍👍👍
yep the bureaucracy in Romania is ridiculous
Yep! And Romanians love to trash their country! The nice American lady said 9 things good about Romania and one thing not so good and you picked the bad one! 😂 This is so .... Romanian! Yes, birouceacy is not our strongest point but it is not as bad as you think!
USA too if you don’t know!
Yeah, bureaucracy is a pain everywhere...
I’m thinking of moving to Romania from the UK, does anyone have any experience or advice?
You Girl!!
You really confronted the Romani issue there. You're so brave 😮
It’s interesting because in the states it doesn’t carry the same meaning as in Romania, because we haven’t experienced that dynamic- I know that it is sensitive so I try to be thoughtful!
@@sierramarie The only issue with the word is that Romanians and Romany are two different cultures and Romanians don't like being mistaken for the Romany, and perhaps the feeling is mutual. Also, the word gypsy may sound a little derogative, and they prefer being called "rroms" now. Hope this helps.
@nicolaeionescu6538 Thank you for the insightful information! I knew there was sensitivity around the subject, this definitely is helpful.
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Btw, If today you go to buy groceries or your coffee, and the romanian employee which doesnt know you are american, says to you "Hristos A Înviat! ". Dont worry. You did nothing wrong. Its a religious quote used in Easter, which translated means " Jesus Christ has Resurected!". And normaly you should answer back "Adevărat a Înviat" in Romanian, but TODAY its too much for You. Maybe next year. :) And it translate into " Truly, he did!" :)
Thank you for letting me know! Maybe I will try the response 😆
@@sierramarie that would be awesome! You are allowed to watch into the phone to see how is spelled! Or, You could open by saying "Hristos A Înviat" and let them answer You back with " Adevărat a Înviat". :)) Those who knew you are american, such as those who work at the coffee shop would be literally in shock and would be priceless their reaction..how You adress to them! And You would have a good fat laugh after you left the shop!!
Yes 😂😂😂 Then they would think… then they would be confused like why does she speak English all this time if she knew that??? Hah!
@@sierramarie nope!:)) Its called being adapting to a new society, new language and so on !! You should give a try, just to see their reaction...:)) But you have only one shot!! One opportunity!! TODAY!! Because from tomorrow on, because would be 3rd day of Easter, they would give you an akward look and must likely will not answer you back with "Adevărat a Înviat" :)
I’ll go for it! Fingers crossed!!!!!
I'm from MO! In Italy now but thinking of moving to Romania for a few months. What's the best way to find rentals in Cluj or Sibiu? I didn't find many good FB groups.
No way!!! That’s so cool 😎 & Italy is AMAZING. Are you in the city or country side? Also, I HIGHLY recommend Romania! I’ve heard amazing things about Sibiu- our experience in Cluj was life changing! There are a ton of expats there ☺️
I suggest www.blitz.ro & I can’t remember the other one I looked at- I’ll ask one of my friends still in Cluj and let you know!
Hello and thank you for considering out country for a visit. As a Romanian I can tell you Cluj is a very nice city but it's the most expensive one, especially regarding the rents. If I were you I'd chose Brasov which is just as beautiful and picturesque, but less expensive. SIbiu is nice but small, there's nothing much to do, and If you are interested in living in a larger city, Bucharest.
Just came across your channel and so I didn't get the fully story. What made you guys move to Romania?
My husband and I have a friend that moved from Romania to our home town of Kansas City. We always shared stories about our countries & Romania sounded beautiful so we decided to move there for 1 year for a new experience! I have some videos from the beginning of our journey, you should check them out ☺️
@@sierramarie I've watched your other videos in the meantime and seen you're moving back home. It can be difficult to adjust in another country. I know because I moved to the states long time ago. Hopefully you were able to enjoy the experience, and I think you made the right choice to return. If you stay too long in a country other than yout native one, you'll always feel in between. Neither here or there.
I love Romania
Me too, it’s incredible!
You should use 2-3 hastags on your videos to reach more people.
Thank you for the tip! I will start doing that!

Moved families for NAVL for 25 years. In a living room a family had those plugs/cut ends off and put bare wires in wall. DANGER DANGER ! ! north american van lines
Bare wires = 🔥
do you need to apply for a visa before moving to romania?
I would recommend it! You get a 90 day tourist period before you have to leave the country and in our experience the visa process took almost the whole time!
How do we purchase medical insurance there as Americans?
Based on my experience- If you are on a work visa, the company should provide private health just like the US. If it is some other type then you can sign up for public health. The immigration office told me where to go and what to sign up for!
well move to romania in less that a yr cause my bf is romanian, any tips for finding a job etc bc i dont speak any romanian
I dont have a lot of knowledge on job hunting, since we moved to Romania from our American company. I would say I feel like most Romanian companies are good with English speakers though ☺️ Definitely have your boyfriend help you read over to translate any paperwork in Romania. The #1 thing when moving is there is 90 days to get a job and visa before you have to leave the country, so time is of the essence! What is your citizenship?
About this Blitz real estate agency, how was your experience? I just wrote them.
I had a good experience! It was a smooth and easy process and very professional
😢😢
Do you live safe there?
Yes! In my experience, I find it very safe compared to where I moved from.
Did I hear you right? Kansas City? Which part?
Yes, We are originally from KC! About 20 minutes South on the Missouri side.
@@sierramarie I was from Weston, MO. Then, we lived in Bonner Springs, KS, before moving to Dominican Republic...2011. Now taking a look at Romania. 👍😊. GO CHIEFS!!!!!!😄😄🤗
Omg what a small world!!! That’s so awesome that y’all love to DR! I highly recommend Romania. Cluj was one of the coolest experiences we’ve ever had, definitely worth it! Go chiefs 🥳🏈

You can totally still go with English and get pretty far with that if you’re in a big city- The more Romanian you know the easier it is to navigate for sure though! I recommend this free website called RomanianPod101- they have TH-cam and worksheets to help learn Romanian & it was really practical and helpful for me! ☺️

I want to know one thing, why do You not made a vlog from.Oradea within all the time You spent in that ugly Timisoara.?
I didn’t vlog Oradea because I’ve never been there ☺️ Cluj is the town we were living in!
Yup ,the imigration tooo slow even is the date to take the visa they Said not yet ready frm a month later,2 weeks later a weeks later and again until i had enaugh and lil argue they Find it my id so acually my id is ready frm 2 month ago but they just lazy tO look
I am so sorry that you had that experience ☹️I know how frustrating that is… I’m glad that you were finally able to get the visa!
May I commment to your top 10 list. 1. Rarely the rent apartments comes without furniture. 2. In Romania 's specialized electronic stores such as Altex, Media Galaxy or Flanco u can find US type chargers. 3. Most of Romania cities lookingw better than american ones. 4. You feel safe? In Europa its called GUN CONTROL! 5. ROMANIA is a latin country. So, other latin countries such as Italia, Spain, Portugal, France, their citizens tend to be much more open to foreign people. While slavic countries and anglo-saxon tend to be more distant. 6. The term gipsy is corect. There is no Roma ethnic group. They are nomadic people , which came from Asia. Also, they can be also found in Slovakia, Hungary, Balkan countries. 7 We are sarcastic people . Highly ironic . Me included:)) 8 too many public employees. So, u did get your visa? 9 . Why a store should give free bags? :) 10. Are we ? :) Dracula story brings economic benefits to România!

In US ,, the apartament CAME with....,, versus in Romania the apartaments are being rent with.... / LMAO
I'm so surprised about you Americans who are lied to all your life , about being the greatest and the safest country in the world and best in everything, then when and if you go out of the metrix of your own country then you realize that they are such liars. For example, safety wise Romania is on 34 th place ( in my opinion is why less , I been on 28 country in trust me coz I know what I am saying) and America is on 88 th place , or internet in our country (which in America we are considered 3 th world country by your government) is very, very fast and also absolutely cheaper than American, and many, many more things.... I hope you don't get mad about my observations. I lived for 20 years in US and trust me, I know what I'm talking about and I know the opinion of Americans about other countries. Sorry about the mistakes I might make on righting in English, the English I know I learned on my own without a teacher,so.🙂
You did a great job with the English- & I’m not offended 😊 I appreciate your observations- everyone has opinions and it’s always interesting to hear others. It is definitely interesting how proud America is in many aspects- There will always be pros and cons to each country & it’s been really funny for me to step out if my bubble and realizing that the US isn’t the only way if life! I’ve had so much fun learning and exploring that this year abroad!
When you start from nothing, you can learn a lot.
This is a powerful and very true statement!
A good dose of Romanian sarcasm :)
Fully furnished accommodation???...oh hell yah!
I wish I was a baller… à little bit taller! 🤣🤣🤣
the most important thing to know is that Romania is not run by Romanians.. its run by the curly side hair people.. aka israelis.
I am not Romanian , but found them to be friendliest most helpful people in Europe. Funny how you skipped over Gypsies.l
Romanians are some of the most kind and genuine people I’ve ever met!
I didn’t necessarily skip over- but didn’t want to speak too much on it because I don’t have a ton of knowledge- I just know that it’s a sensitive topic and wanted to bring light to not just throw the word around Willy nilly 😊
Well, wrong !
Only if you have plenty of money the apartment is furnished.
No different plugs:220V plugs as everywhere in Europe (not uk as they are not longer part of the EU).
For the sarcasm you met the wrong people: romanians are sarcastic and joke lovers.
Wrong with dracula: it is the fiction of bram stoker, an irish.
No dracula culture here: maybe some vendors are doing this for tourists.
So mainly you are wrong: learn the culture and then post something better.
Tnx for sharing.
That’s good to know not all places come with furniture- as far as the plugs, it’s in comparison to the US (where I’m from) so they would be different to me ☺️
Sierra Marie, I would give you some Romanian sarcasm but since you- as an American would not get it, i would get mad and throw my glass eye at you. Also, did you know that Jesus had a recurring nightmare about framing nailers?
There is nothing little about United States
That is so true!!!
Oh, really? You moved to a white, christian conservative country and were surprised by their kindness and level of safety?
Sure the guvernments are slow but in Transylvania they do things a lot slower than the usual :))
I would accept slow government for such a beautiful country! I ❤️Romania

I had the same problem in NY with phone and laptop chargers, the other way around :)))
Anyway, the sockets in America seem ridiculous to me...and especially the light switches:)))
as for bags in shops .. my dear, the European norm. until recently, they were free in Europe as well.
anyway, it shocks me that in America you arrive home with 50 bags containing 4 products:))
total waste!
bureaucracy is killing Romania, honestly!
security.. yes it exists, don't forget that we were still a communist country and that kind of followed you to the toilet.
It seems that this is a great asset for Romania .. although I didn't feel attacked in NY .. maybe a little worried on the street .. but it's a country with many ethnicities, many different people and you don't really know what to expect .
Yes, the malls are a bit pathetic in America. In NY, alas, they are so primitive, through disused factories, dirty.
I don't know.. I really didn't like this aspect.
On the other hand, outside of NY, they are something else. they have an air of vacation, not massive, not imposing but very attractive.
People... hmm, that's because you're American...
The Gypsies.. yes, they are a problem and because after the Romanian revolution they were allowed to call themselves Roma.. THERE IS GREAT CONFUSION WITH THE ROMANIANS.
GYPSIES ARE MAXIMUM 3% OF THE POPULATION IN RO. they are everywhere in Europe .. only here they are called Roma ..
Another "European" story
UGLY!
I didn't understand the story with the sarcasm.yes, Romanians are too conceited. I ALSO have these problems, keep calm
