Hey Umesh, I am not able to get that Contact Aware Scare after cropping. Also, the cropped background is white unlike how it is shown in your tutorial.
Apparently all the people praising this tutorial haven't tried it. It does not work if a person follows your instructions as you give them. Before cropping, you have to double click on the layer, and either rename it or leave it with the name Layer 0, and then click ok. Now the layer's transparency is no longer locked. Crop as instructed. After selecting content aware scale, hold SHIFT down when stretching, otherwise the entire image will scale in all directions.
@@johnnyc.5979 Thank you so much. Often little things like this prevent me from finishing a project idea and people like you are lifesavers. Thanks mate.
You are one of the rare trainers who are very much to the point without long hassles and silly jokes. I really enjoy and benefit from your tutorials. Well done
When u insert a picture in ps it will be converted to a smart object. u cant apply content aware fill to it. U need to rasterize the smart object first - then it works. Thumbs up!
Content aware scale is greyed out for me :( i cannot click it Also when i use the crop tool to increase the canvas size, the extended areas are white for me and not alpha like in the video
I saw the youtube notification with the title and thought to myself "why bother? I know it's the content-aware scale... But who knows what wizardry he's going to pull off now. I better watch this". And truly you've blown my mind again. ;D You're the best!
It´s working now...not as expected but it´s working. When I expand the canvas with the cropping tool a white background appears instead of a transparent one...
Thank you so much sir 👍 Double click background to unlock. Next go to canvas size increase the size. Next press c and click clear. Next go to edit and click content aware scale increase little press enter n repeat the same
I was surfing the net and not sure how I landed on your tutorial again. There is always something new to learn from your channel. Thanks for making these videos
I can't get this to work in Version 2020. When I go to stretch, it increases the height as well. If I do a square selection it just stretches the grass in my photo which looks weird. If I hold down the shift key it just stretches it without the content aware doing anything
You may want to tell your viewers that they need to be on a pixel layer when trying this, otherwise the "content aware scale" is grayed out. LOL.. Learned the hard way, but figured it out anyway. Great tute!
The image downloads didn't work and when I am using the content aware scale everything is increasing in size in all dimensions and I can't see why? Looks as if it could have been a fabulous useful tool but I am frustrated I can't get it to work? :-(
Hi just came across this excellent video, however, I cannot seem to get this to work, I have tried to extend the photo but the extended portion stays white and not transparent and when I try to select content aware scale it is greyed out. any pointers. i have slightly more that basic skills with photoshop, I am keen to improve. I am using photoshop cc 2020. charlie.
Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. You have no idea how much I have improved my photoshop skills. I saw your tutorial on expanding the background. I don't know what I am doing wrong, but it is not working for me. 1. I crop and stretch the photo to my liking. Hit enter. 2. I apply content-aware scale application. It puts a box around the photo with handles. 3. I grab the handle to stretch. At this point the whole photo enlarges on all sides, which I do not want. I want to expand at one side, but the whole photo gets bigger and the people get distorted Your tutorial does not show this happening to your images. I re-tried this procedure several times, the same thing happens. I also tried pressing the alt key while stretching, and the people in the image get all weird and distorted. What am I doing wrong, please help I can really use this technique, but I can't get to work like your tutorial. Thanks, keep up your great work. Thanks
I've got the same issue Dennis and have yet to find the cause even after having disbled Maintain Aspect Ratio. That said, I was able to extend one side without enlarging the whole image by holding down the shift key after selecting content-aware scale.
I believe there has been an update which changed the way it expands. I used a similar method which is now doing the same thing you described and so I was searching for a more recent video in hopes it would expand it correctly. ugh.Not working

Hey Umesh,

Awesome. But my CC 2019 with updates could not do this as it's did this automatically, I wasn't able to stretch it myself. what do I do?
