    Fantastic rebuild, well done. As an owner of a 1980 SC I could not agree more. A car that after 40+ years that, with regular care, can drive like day 1 is an amazing testament to top engineering and construction.

    Owned a 1978 SC Targa for years. The current cars are faster and do everything better by any measurement yet do not provide the tactical feel. And that’s the problem with newer cars they lack a soul. Beautiful restoration work done by artisan’s. Well done

    I really appreciated the discussion about Porsche’s engineering philosophy. To my mind, the philosophy of making the chassis evolve as a platform for improving tire, suspension and powertrain technology has made Porsche the only company that could build and sell a car that is timeless. Most constructors bail on a chassis as soon as the sales slow down. Hell, most people bail at the first sign of trouble. So, God bless those Porsche engineers who kept their composure and continued improving a car that didn’t seem long for this world. They were the true geniuses.

    Just seeing the colour won me over. The classic Porsche 911 was born to be dressed in British Racing Green.
    I am not a sports car guy. Yet, I would buy this car if I had the money. I love it. This, the Beetle, the Minis.. those round headlights and rounded body just call to me every time!

    Fantastic color and renovation! At first I was thinking the beige leather was a tad too pale, but when you said the video washed it out a bit, I can imagine it’s absolutely perfect in person. The addition of the chrome is wonderful, in fact I can imagine taking it to the next level with chrome rear grill and deck lid insignia. While at it I’d be temped to replace the bumpers with simple RUF Yellowbird style and old-school style chrome mirrors. All ‘80s black out trim be gone!
    Sorry for going on a tangent - this SC as it sits is fabulous!

    Lovely car. The skinny 911 without rear spoiler is such a clean shape and a very practical car to use.

    SC owner here. I could not agree more with you on everything you've said. The SC is an amazing balance of refined esthetics, performance and reliability. I also very much agree with the slight backdating you did by going back to a chrome trim around the glass of the car. Tony Lapine's back trim enforcement was a fad that did not stand the test of time, as evidenced by the backdating trend of the last 20 years. When something is perfect, don't mess with it.

    Wat a well thought out business model and vision you and your team have developed 👌. I’m speechless and in awe. In 1977 is when I saw my first Porsche while in high school. From ther Car and Drive and Road & Track magazine took on journeys of Porsche and BMW ingenuity. Love your channel 🫡

      Couldn't agree more . . . back in the early '80s, I had a '78 SC Sport after my '76 Carrera 3.0 and loved it. The car in this video is just stunning but I have to say I prefer the "black" look and body colour headlight surrounds to the polished Fuchs wheels and window frames.

  • @mdd47

    would you believe a lot of Porsche guys absolutely HATED this body style in the 80s? I think they are awesome. I even like the accordion bumper pieces. I'd love to get an SC and daily drive it. I don't need a 930 Turbo, an SC would be plenty quick enough.

    For the bright trim did you replace the existing black trim or did you strip it and re-chrome? If the former, can you tell me where you ordered the new trim?

    • @Dutchmann_official
      @Dutchmann_official  ปีที่แล้ว

      The different models vary based their original spec and material used by Porsche for the window frames. We buy new chrome/bright beadings from Porsche direct and either polish of chrome the window frames

    Lovely car and colour combination. In my experience, the SC is definitely the most practical and usable classic 911. Can be driven year-round due to its fully galvanized body, the mechanical engineering quality is super robust, electronics are fairly basic and simple, and power is sufficient, esp. in the later 204 hp models. The only slight let down imo is the original 915 gearbox, which I would have liked to switch with a later Carrera G60 unit.

    Since you're running 10.5:1 compression ratio, isn't that considered beyond the limits of the single plug system? Also, any particular reason why the displacement wasn't increased to 3.2ltrs?
    Nice car and thanks for sharing!

    • @Dutchmann_official
      @Dutchmann_official  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks!
      We do go twin-spark with certain high-performance builds, but we tend not avoid twin-spark on 10.5:1 CR upgrades considering a few factors:
      - Acceptable 'degree' of modification (the twin distributors vs the heads)
      - Fuel quality / octane (in our experience anything 95+ is ideal)
      - Piston dome design (degree of asymmetry varies across different manufacturers)
      Twin Spark can give you a cleaner pickup, but at this ratio and driving style (street vs track) we don't feel that it's a an appropriate mod (but this is very much up to respective owners & clients). In terms of displacement increase - definitely a good way to get the grunt, but we feel it goes one step too far away from original for certain builds. We take that route where racing performance trumps originality.

  • @champ5586

    Front end is a touch too high. Rake should be slightly more forward. The old school way short of a track oriented corner balancing was to use a level on the door threshold.

    I have an SC, so I appreciate it. That said, seems like a LOT of money to dump into an SC. They’re just not worth that much, compared to the earlier ones or the later 3.2s, 964s, 993s, etc. I mean, there’s probably £80k+ in this, possibly more. If they were worth £250k or something when done, great. I just don’t see the value for money here though
