I did love this movie. And yes, that was Jim Carrey who did get paid some bucks but didn't give it the time of day after after thinking after it's premiere it was too violent and mean spirited.

Kickass 1 and 2 will forever be my favorite movies. They amazingly show how superhero's are in the real world instead of flying and all that other stuff.

If you want to see if he'll make a good Bond, you need to watch his performance in Bullet Train. Such a good movie with an all-star cast! Phenomenal review as always!
A little known and disturbing super hero movie I love is "Super" directed by the incredible James Gunn and stars Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page. It is way outside the conventional superhero box and I absolutely love it.

I agree about the tone. I'm not sorry they made it, but I haven't been in as inclined to rewatch this as the first film. I was blown away by Jim Carrey's voice and demeanor, though. Even though I knew he was in it he was almost unrecognizable. It's a shame he disavowed it after seeking it out.
I'm going to mention _Mystery Men_ (1999) again, because it's another different, fresh take on superheroes with no powers (maybe with some exceptions), it has a nerdy yet cool and kooky vibe, it's fun and funny, and it's a pretty good parody of superhero tropes, too. It's underrated and underappreciated, in my opinion. Oh, and it has a great cast.

Mystery Men was an awesome movie. Geoffrey Rush was a great Supervillain. The "Heroes" were all played by a stellar cast. Jen, you should watch Mystery Men some time.
The funny thing is, IRL that shark would absolutely be dead. Many sharks (though not all though definitely Great Whites as this movie's shark was) gills don't work on their own, they require water to be moving through them, so they cannot ever stop swimming. That's why you see them swimming in circles when they sleep.
It's not about ranking one over the other, it is all one story, and just as Mindy matured, it must evolve, or become uninteresting. Of course you can never capture the experience of surprise of a fresh concept, but so it is with everything in life, anything can happen, good or bad, and that's the only thing that makes it worth living.
The funny thing is, looking back at Kick Ass 2, you can see where the journey begins for ATJ to what you see in something like Bullet Train. Guy aged well.

I'm a fan of the comics (particularly the first two stories and Hit-Girl as a character) and I really liked these movies, but while I've seen the first one numerous times, I don't think I've seen this one again since the theatre. I'm with you as far as it still being entertaining and fun, but maybe not as magical as the first.The killing of his dad is super sad, but I appreciate that it was difficult and makes the audience feel something.That reminds us that the stakes are real and the bad guys are truly evil. I believe there are two more films planned, but nothing has materialized yet. There are plenty of comics, though, including a Hit-Girl solo series. On another note, have you ever seen Mystery Men? I highly suggest giving that film a watch. I think it is pretty underrated.
This is a bit off the movie, but speaking of mob enforcers, one of my students had a patient who was a disabled diabetic senior citizen who had a nonhealing foot ulcer (which is why he needed to come in several times a week), and he was mob enforcer when he was young. We were discussing cases during rounds, and the student, reflecting on what a sweet little old man he was now that he left the mob and served his time and went straight, said "It's hard to be he used to be a killer." and another student responded "He's STILL a killer. All the people he killed didn't come back to life." Harsh but not inaccurate.
oh and lastly... regarding him being the next bond... google him.... he's kinda 'bloomed' since these movies (I only wish I grew up like that after my teen years :P)
Great reaction, Jen, the first film was more comic book violence this one was far darker so less light-hearted. "Super" 2010 directed by James Gunn premièred in Canada slightly before "Kick-Ass" was released, but it's American release wasn't until 2011 so, it got overlooked, although it deals with the same subject it's has a different tone and in many ways I prefer it, I recommend that you watch it on your own not the channel due to it not being well known it won't draw the viewers.
Hit-Girl's wig was always supposed to have been black, like it was in the original comics. But what the comics did was highlight it in purple, and whoever did her costume for the first movie mistakenly had a purple wig made for her. At first, the director was going to have this fixed, but they tried the purple wig and decided that it looked just fine, and probably even better.
That's been a mistake often made with adapting comic books. The colour black is often highlighted with blue, so I think I read somewhere that Spiderman's costume is originally red and black, not red and blue.

It may not be as good as the first one but it’s still got some fun moments. Hit-Girl definitely steals the movie again and I think Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be a great James Bond.
I think what happened with this movie is that the original set up for Christopher Mintz-Plasse was for him to go complete villain in this one. That's why Matthew Vaughn hired him in the first place. He mentioned a scene from the movie Once Upon a Time in the West where Henry Fonda, a positive and lovable character in all his other movies, suddenly guns down a kid. Vaughn believed the shock value of having someone as lovable as McLovin do the things he was supposed to do in this movie would've been a game changer. However, Vaughn didn't direct this one so the new director and the actors decided to do their own thing. 🤷♂️

If you want some more fighting-girl action along with some sci-fi, consider watching _Alita: Battle Angel_ (2019). It does some interesting world-building, and while not all of that potential was fulfilled, since it was supposed to have been a series of movies, it's certainly a different take on what amounts to superheroism, I think.
Looks like Jen has not yet seen "Minority Report," so she has no familiarity with a sick stick. As for this film, I like it. But Kick-Ass 1 is not something you can easily beat. In this one, the father's death is like that of Uncle Ben.

Like you, I enjoyed this one, just not as much as the first. Though with Mindy a little older, it was a little less cringy seeing her hacking people up. And I was kind of disappointed with the kiss at the end. Even though it didn't lead to anything, I wanted their relationship to be very much brother-sister, and ultimately the only family each had left.

Jenn you should check out the movie Stardust. Mark Strong who is the main mob boss in the first Kickass was in it. Stardust was not going to be made but they got Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfieffer to be in the film. If they didn’t sign on they would have never made the film. Henry Cavill is in the movie as well. So many good actors in it. That is a movie you would enjoy
I thought the break up between Dave and Katie was really dumb, but I think Lyndsy Fonesca wasn’t able to have a bigger role in the movie due to her involvement in the TV series Nikita.

Yes, this movie was shot in Canada, although you could find places that look like this in the US, as well. Canada offers some really nice tax breaks for making films there, however.

It would have been better if Marcus put on the Big Daddy suit and surprised them at the end, I thought it was lame that kickass was wearing it. Marcus makes more sense from a poetic stand point. He is Mindy's Godfather and what a good hero name for Marcus, The Godfather. I'm a flipping genius and I know it.
First Kick-Ass is still the best Ass, but I wouldn't say this one was bad. The first was a lot tighter and didn't feel slow. Hit-Girl and Big Daddy were the highlight. Sidelining Hit-Girl took out what made a lot of the first movie fun. Shipping Hit-Girl with Kick-Ass is not something I'd want to see in Part 3. Do not want to see them hooking up on a rooftop like Batman and Batgirl. The highlight of part 2 for me was Jim Carrey. He went from Batman Forever to Justice Forever. Marvel should hire him to be part of the Avengers. Female Ivan Drago was great henchwoman and she almost stole the thunder from Hit-Girl. I would have liked to see Mother Russia return somehow if they made a sequel, or replaced by another giant lady.
There's not going to be a Kick-Ass 3, but there was talk of a Hit-Girl movie, which was going to serve as a prequel. As far as I know though, it was canceled.

Looks like there won't be a Kick Ass 3. Instead there is a reboot trilogy in the works. Fight School is the name of first movie which is done filming according to rumors. No release date yet announced. Other movies are said to be, VRAM and Kick Ass. New characters and the like.

I saw this one first late one night on cable. I had never heard of the movies. I was like what is this. I loved it. I had the opposite opinion than you. I thought this one had better fights and action. After I loved this I got to see the first.Great back story and then I wished I saw them in order and that there were more movies.
i think its more likely that a propane tank turns into a spinning flamethrower, the explosion in the movie is more like a bunch of gas cans set off with blasting caps. i don't know the exact special effects but obviously propane tanks are dangerous but i think it takes quite a bit to bust them wide open because they are made as safe as they can be
@@stegwise It exploded as though it were filled with a mix of propane and sufficient oxygen for a complete burn, but of course that's not how they're filled normally. A spinning (or usually non-spinning) flamethrower is an accurate description--the gas sprays out and burns as it contacts the oxygen in the air (and then heat from the flame, of course). In order to explode, the burning has to take place on the inside instead, and build up enough pressure to burst the tank, which normally can't happen.

Batman would not "hit the streets" in his disguise. He would hit is targets, in the shadows and disappear into the night like Hit Girl.

Vaughn believed the shock value of having someone as lovable as McLovin do the things he was supposed to do in this movie would've been a game changer. However, Vaughn didn't direct this one so the new director and the actors decided to do their own thing. 🤷♂️

I watched this movie once before. But most seemed new to me watching this reaction.
If you want some more fighting-girl action along with some sci-fi, consider watching _Alita: Battle Angel_ (2019). It does some interesting world-building, and while not all of that potential was fulfilled, since it was supposed to have been a series of movies, it's certainly a different take on what amounts to superheroism, I think.

As for this film, I like it. But Kick-Ass 1 is not something you can easily beat. In this one, the father's death is like that of Uncle Ben.

Like you, I enjoyed this one, just not as much as the first. Though with Mindy a little older, it was a little less cringy seeing her hacking people up. And I was kind of disappointed with the kiss at the end. Even though it didn't lead to anything, I wanted their relationship to be very much brother-sister, and ultimately the only family each had left.
McLovin really needs a neck massage, shoulder stretches and back exercises!!

Jenn you should check out the movie Stardust. Mark Strong who is the main mob boss in the first Kickass was in it. Stardust was not going to be made but they got Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfieffer to be in the film. If they didn’t sign on they would have never made the film. Henry Cavill is in the movie as well. So many good actors in it. That is a movie you would enjoy
I thought the break up between Dave and Katie was really dumb, but I think Lyndsy Fonesca wasn’t able to have a bigger role in the movie due to her involvement in the TV series Nikita.
also it brought the story more in line with the comic since they didn't become a couple in the comic. she actually heavily bullied him after finding out he's not gay.

Yes, this movie was shot in Canada, although you could find places that look like this in the US, as well. Canada offers some really nice tax breaks for making films there, however.
Agreed, tonally inconsistent but worth it for Hit-Girl. This edit did a great job and was much more watchable.

It would have been better if Marcus put on the Big Daddy suit and surprised them at the end, I thought it was lame that kickass was wearing it. Marcus makes more sense from a poetic stand point. He is Mindy's Godfather and what a good hero name for Marcus, The Godfather. I'm a flipping genius and I know it.

I did really like this move, but I do think that compared to the first one, despite all the death and violence, it feels "candy coated".
First Kick-Ass is still the best Ass, but I wouldn't say this one was bad. The first was a lot tighter and didn't feel slow. Hit-Girl and Big Daddy were the highlight. Sidelining Hit-Girl took out what made a lot of the first movie fun. Shipping Hit-Girl with Kick-Ass is not something I'd want to see in Part 3. Do not want to see them hooking up on a rooftop like Batman and Batgirl.
The highlight of part 2 for me was Jim Carrey. He went from Batman Forever to Justice Forever. Marvel should hire him to be part of the Avengers. Female Ivan Drago was great henchwoman and she almost stole the thunder from Hit-Girl. I would have liked to see Mother Russia return somehow if they made a sequel, or replaced by another giant lady.
There's not going to be a Kick-Ass 3, but there was talk of a Hit-Girl movie, which was going to serve as a prequel. As far as I know though, it was canceled.

Yeah, kinda agree. They don't _quite_ thread the needle tone wise in this one and there's some pretty obvious green screen etc. Still fun but not _as_ fun IMO (and Hit Girl still, well, kicks ass :).

Looks like there won't be a Kick Ass 3. Instead there is a reboot trilogy in the works. Fight School is the name of first movie which is done filming according to rumors. No release date yet announced. Other movies are said to be, VRAM and Kick Ass. New characters and the like.

I agree with you, Jen. I liked the first ‘Kick-Ass’ more than this one, because I just think that they tried to up the ante too much, and it didn’t really work for me, but I do still like it, just not as much as the original film.
I saw this one first late one night on cable. I had never heard of the movies. I was like what is this. I loved it. I had the opposite opinion than you. I thought this one had better fights and action. After I loved this I got to see the first.Great back story and then I wished I saw them in order and that there were more movies.
i think its more likely that a propane tank turns into a spinning flamethrower, the explosion in the movie is more like a bunch of gas cans set off with blasting caps. i don't know the exact special effects but obviously propane tanks are dangerous but i think it takes quite a bit to bust them wide open because they are made as safe as they can be
@@stegwise It exploded as though it were filled with a mix of propane and sufficient oxygen for a complete burn, but of course that's not how they're filled normally. A spinning (or usually non-spinning) flamethrower is an accurate description--the gas sprays out and burns as it contacts the oxygen in the air (and then heat from the flame, of course). In order to explode, the burning has to take place on the inside instead, and build up enough pressure to burst the tank, which normally can't happen.
