I heard an improvisation like that when I was there a few years ago. The organ is not as loud as you might think, but it's just such a beautifully balanced sound. For me, Notre-Dame's en-chamade monster is always going to stand in the shadow of this masterpiece...
The architect who was awarded the contract to design the façade understood nothing of acoustics. He made such a bulky case and he left no room between the façade pipes so the sound of the organ is hindered. This is why the st sulpice organ does not have as powerful of a sound as one may expect. Notre Dame, on the other hand, was once a glorious instrument. Cavaille Coll considered Notre Dame's instrument his magnum opus. Starting with cochereau, that organ has been made louder over the recent decades, not just by the addition of the chamades (which Cavaille coll had originally planned to install). So yeah, there's a lil organ history for ya
I just love how he attempted to fix the top-G cipher (i.e. stuck note) by adapting the harmony first at 2:05, then again at 2:43. He found all sorts of excuses to play chords containing the top G in order to unstuck it.
Who is playing this improvisation? Is it Choplin or Roth? It is absolutely marvelous. So , so moving and impressive. It is the finest organ sound I have ever heard.
I'm very much an amateur organist and play for a small American parish but I'd most kill to play this organ even though I would look and sound like a fool.
The Clicquot family were the leading organbuilders before the revolution, and they made many wonderful instruments, although sadly only a handful of them survive in anything close to their original conditions, and especially with the large body of Clicquot pipework destroyed in the recent arson attack at Nantes Cathedral recently, although that instrument had been rebuilt extensively- which would not be acceptable today.

I played the St. Sulpice organ in 1982 and concluded that it was the finest organ I had ever heard. It is also as big as an organ has to get.
Incredible. It gives me goosebumps
Amazing music Sophie Véronique !
Pretty convinced it's her !

I think I've heard this clip before, and it was credited to Sophie Veronique.

Yes, this organ is overwhelmingly mighty with its power and brilliance but not oversized, according to Brahms "forte ma dolce".

+BAISIN Christophe Et Pierre Cochereau!

She, that is.
@Nathan Camilleri 100%
Then she probably pushed the stops and lifted the keys as fast as she could, giggling, to silence that stuck note. :)
@Nathan Camilleri I actually saw a video of them doing this. It's somewhere on Facebook, very funny.
Fabulous improvisation! The power, the range, the movement of the piece, just fantastic! Many thanks...I'm going to save this one! WOW
Marvelous sound from this great instrument. Great improvisation. Thanks for posting!

Stunning
Organo meraviglioso molto meglio di quello di notre dame suono piu bello meno metallico
Superb playing on a superb organ, I assume the organist is the wonderful Daniel Roth, just a shame the reverb was cut short at the end of the clip.
No, D. Roth don't do this kind of impro. Sure it's Sophie-Veronique.
@@jmariliou Agree, although not the best of hers.
Yes ,I think you are right, Sophie's impros are quite distinctive.
david mace, the cut at the end was necessarily due to the stuck g note - you can hear it through the last chord's reverb.
Yes. who was the idiot who did this ?
Ça décoiffe !
Where did you find this incredible improvisation?
Oh, and I forgot to mention the BIGGEST, BADDEST, BALLZIEST BOMBARDS in the BUSINESS!!!!!!!!
Correction - those would be S Ouen, Rouen. (Also Cavaillé-Coll).

Is this organ still manually pumped in the back or is there an actual blower on it now
There is a blower in the Organ.
If only the end wasnt cut off :(

I feel like not enough people pay attention to the Clicquot organ builders
