So glad someone said this that was hilarious like. I also don’t believe they mentioned the fact that they 100% had the best chance to win in that moment knowing bullets to the skull can kill. They literally were just meatheads though and didn’t think it through. They tried to capture it like what?
Prey for me would be better than the first film, if they didn’t include the pistol, they should of saved it for a later film where they could give the name on it meaning instead of leaving it as a disgrace.
I loved the little things they did with this movie to emphasise the themes of predators and prey. Naru goes out in her Comanche war paint to track and hunt a predator, unaware that it’s THE predator that she’s hunting. Once she encounters the species that is higher on the food train than her, she is washed down river, washing off her war paint. She’s now the prey, not the hunter. Very cool 😌
@@mitchellpurdy470 hell yeah, was definitely a movie that favoured the returning viewers of the predator series. The dead meat honeys are correct though, not a movie you need to have seen the previous films to understand the narrative
I made a comment on Twitter a few days ago that I love when horror properties don't kill the pets. That always distresses me. Like in Drag Me to Hell and I Am Legend.
as someone with native american heritage, i think it's fuckin awesome that there can be big budget movies now that have a mostly native cast and are done in a respectful and not racist way.
too bad they didn't make it full Gibson style with Indian language use by the tribe. It's just ridicolous to have French speak French for sake of it while Comanche used English with native throwbacks.
@@rowanw1312 Great, another person getting offended by words. He is literally defending the use of the native language and you still find something to complain about.
My understanding of the director's comment was that this was *this* predator's first hunt on Earth, sort of as a foil to it being Naru's first hunt. Because there is stuff in the lore that hints that the predators do sometimes return to Earth, but this was this specific predator's first time.
totally missed this comment and made the same correction, without the Naru connection though... glad that someone else payed attention to the making of details.
Still You know this cuz director stated that. For someone who will just watch movie it's simply dumb movie, it has shitload of writing problems e.g Predator handling fucking grizzly bear with bare hands but having problem to overpower tiny girl. Being smart enough to avoid trappers traps just to get caught easily. Magic plant that turn blood temperature by something over 10-15 Celsius degree within a minute. IDK why only second movie was able to get Predator mandibles right. Predators was close but Black's The Predator and Prey designs were awful.
@@lxdead5585 I disagree, but you do you dude. Movie was fun, well directed, well acted, and brought the series back to its roots in a lot of ways I think. I thought the writing was on par if not better than the rest of the series.
@@ShaggyHair76 It was only better than The Predator from 2018 and TBH it wasn't huge accomplishment. Well directed? K Fun? Debatable. Back to it's roots? LMAO NOPE. And if You think that writing was on par with first Predator You must be deluded. There is too many too big logical errors and main "protagonist" was just irritating e.g scene in the woods where she acted like a spoiled child leading to Predator killing her own men lmao. I can understand Your movie, each of us have it's own taste, but objectively speaking this movie was "fine" at best.
As a North African, I'm actually really happy to be living in an era where I can watch a movie about a culture that I'm unfamiliar with (except through the lens of media) and not worry that it's all stereotypes and racism, people can call it woke trash as much as they want, but Joey saying that now people all around the world can see a movie in a native American language really made me smile
That is a very good point I hadn’t considered before! To go from the 50’s or 60’s where Cowboy Westerns with their inaccurate depictions was all that was available especially outside the US and Canada, to there being big budget movies that have some real connections to the culture that the world can enjoy together. That makes me like this movie more now
@@JBoxy7 agreed, still glad the indigenous characters weren't. the movie would've better if the trappers hadn't been ridiculously stupid but eh, win some, lose some

@@OhWowThatsDumb Or maybe you should stop expecting everyone to have seen or know of the same horror movies you, and let them be excited for something they've wanted but never seen. It’d be dope seeing the Predator set in different eras… Like having him fight the Samurai, the Zulu, the Spartans, the Aztecs, the Vikings… Possibilities are endless!
Hell, I could see someone making a long form animated series of just Predators running into different tribes. Like, maybe the feral predators are their own Yautja subculture and they note that one of their own got lost on earth. And every episode can have VA cast and production crew of different tribes based on who the focus of the episode is.

I love how much passion and care went into this movie. Especially when you consider someone could've easily said "it's a Predator movie in a unique setting, it'll make money anyway" and rush the project.
I liked how the predator moved quick and decisively when he fought the traders. Like I just feel like the other movies either had a rubber hand feel or were to big to be fast but the feral one felt like a martial artist just moving thru the fight so fluidly.
The Preys Predator action was very John Wick to me. it's choreographed but very efficient in execution. it's planned but seems improvised which is a mark of a good fight scene
Until he decided he now fights the girl like an absolute idiot. I think the only explanation for this movie is the other predators thought it’s a funny joke to send their dumbest clan member to earth
@@gggallin8279 he fought her like the rest. She was prepared. She cloaked herself, she blew off his mask, she placed traps, she focused on her speed, and she used the Preds own lethal weapons against it.
For me it goes both ways, there are people wrongly calling it woke trash, and at the other end of the scale, you have people calling it a masterpiece, and the best of all the Predator films.... both for me are ridiculous statements. It's a 6.5/10 film for me, just above average, and enjoyable, but the issues it has just stops it being amazing.
@@mattthrower6381 well contrary to popular believe, movies are totally subjective. You don't have to like a well made movie, just as you don't have to dislike a poorly made one. You give it a 6,5 and call it just above average while someone else gives it a 10 and calls it a masterpiece. Neither of you are wrong.
Found out that the director was also influenced by God of War 2018 worth the weapon selection. Specifically with the rope hatchet and shield the predator uses. Pretty fucking cool
@@JTGallant I fucking knew it! I knew it the very moment I saw him bring that shield out. The way it popped open was exactly how the shield pops out in God of War when Kratos nails a block/parry.

worst part about it is that Mi'kmaq in the Canadian Maritimes would actually fashion there weapon out of bone specifically moose. until French Acadians started trading steel weapons for furs with them hence why they are known has " fur traders" yes French traders got very well along with native American unlike what the revenant and this movie will have you believe. in Canada the only province there is no first nation reservation is newfoundland a place settled by British and Scottish. Irish did not immigrate to newfoundland until the 1800's when a catholic church was built on the province..... just to paint a picture of the last Beothuk native American died in Saint-John in the 1800 in otherworld's genocide this was after deportation of the Acadians to Louisiana in 1755. so, you can reach your own conclusion on who had better relations with Native American.

I watched PREY with friends and as soon as she fell into the mud I shouted "CHEKHOV'S BOG!!!" and the amount of validation I got when she dragged the yautja into it for her trap was incredible. Also, in spite of noticing she took the helm for something, I still didn't figure her plan out until it was happening because Naru is apparently much smarter than me. Incredible movie. Also if anyone hasn't done so, I highly recommend watching the Comanche dub, it's awesome.
So glad to see an indigenous person give their perspective of this Native American film, instead of another angry white man talking about the female protagonist and nothing else.
21:45 That's why I stopped being thankful with James or James and Chelsea and started to thanks all the Dead meat team. Being here before James quits his editor job (what a brave leap to the unkown), but l understand that Dead meat is a whole team of people that really care about their job. So, again, thank you all the team for the amazing job you do on the channel!
I think part of the brilliance of the first Predator is that the movie does successfully frame Arnold as a final girl. I think of the shot with the predator holding him up by the neck. It's also why the predator is 7 feet tall in that movie. How else do you make arnold look so tiny at moments? Half Commando, Half slasher, all Vietnam allegory. :)
Yeah, thats why it annoys me when people say Naru is too small to fight a Predator - that was always the point! Arnie and his team were built like Greek Gods and armed to the teeth - it still counted for nothing against the Predator. Guile, quick thinking and attentiveness are your only hopes against them, not brawn.
@@BenEd2 Dutch's team was packing a megaton of testosterone, enough lead to cut down the Amazon but in the end, Dutch had to use mud and sticks and stones to kill the Predator. Along with luck and cunning. Prey uses the same tropes in a new setting.
Totally agree and I love prey but predator is just so much better the cast was amazing and when each of them died you had a feeling for them especially when Dillon gets his arm blown off but is helpless and has to wait on the predator killing him whilst he still fires. We built a connection to the mercenaries. Billy cutting his chest to challenge the predator in order to buy the others time a female who was perceived at first as though she'd do anything to get them killed becoming a character that was so vital and you love by the end and Arnold's whole creative plan to take down the predator as he also learns it cant see him in the mud and he lures it in to his trap and we get the most iconic ending of all the predator movies with the self destruct. I get the hype behind prey its a great movie great story but the supporting actors are awful apart from her brother as we really don't get any incline to care about the characters the way we do in predator like when Blain dies and mac is distraught but it affects his decision making and he just wants to kill the predator any way possible and we get behind him with the hate he has for the creature but then mac dies and we feel for him although we knew it was coming and then poncho being carried by Arnold and anna but then he gets killed when we were hoping he'd live after the amount of damage he'd suffered that was non gory. The one thing I will say I love about prey is the idealism of the technology but I hate the predators face and think they may have fucked up with the overall design of the predator id of preferred if they kept to the original design or went with one of the various designs that we see in the movie predators which was another movie that I preferred to prey and I feel it gets a lot of unnecessary hate. Prey was great it is the first time that the predator has traveled to earth in live action so far. There will be more set before this 100% as predators is cannon and there's a lot of easter eggs there that are very suggestive to what we've just received and could be in for. I just hope they take their time as this movie is definitely in the top 3 of the franchise my ranking is now predator predators and prey. Predator 2 is more of nostalgia and not the greatest of films and the predator was awful AVP 1 was interesting but again was more of a nostalgia trip and requiem well the less said about that the better. Prey is great they utilise this new but similar feeling setting with a great lead role and the growth of both the lead character and the predator in this film is great to see
Listen, I love the representation aspect of Prey. Seeing all the middle aged men be upset at a native woman fighting a Predator was a better watch than The Predator. But I do want to hear about the movie’s story and character at some point 😂 hyped for this kill count though

Like the positioning of the helmet at the end just happened to be pointing where the pred was standing. And the close hand to hand stuff at the end. Even Arnie wasnt able to handle a pred that up close. I couldnt care less who lives and dies. I also wasnt a fan of the lack of consistency with the predators honor code. Naru is has become one of my top 10 final girls of all time. I hope we see Amber Midthunder in more movies especially horror cause she absolutely killed it and the Predator
In my opinion she became one of the fucking worst final girls by the end. Name any single final girl who goes their entire movie without being even slightly hurt at all
@@OhWowThatsDumb I counted three head injuries, a bear trap injury, getting beaten up and a bunch of times where she got very nearly killed. Plus getting tossed around and slammed to the ground in the final fight. Did you spend the movie playing around on your phone?

I think the movie isn't perfect but it never dives into "invincible female protagonist" which shields it from a lot of criticism. Amber Midthunder did a great job. She gets her ass kicked a few times, loses her hunter war paint when she sees the Predator, and has to outwit it to win.
Been watching since JP kill count and all you and everyone associated with this channel has done is improve. Without question, best horror TH-cam channel.
Went into this completely blind this morning when I got the notification for the pod. I am not a huge fan of predator so I didn’t get news that this was even happening I was shook when I saw the invisible predator. It was actually really fun to not know I was watching a predator movie. And honestly this is my favorite one.
I found you guys through Spotify and this is my first time seeing the podcast in video form. James looks nothing like how I imagined him, but somehow EXACTLY how I imagined him. Hope you guys never stop. Love your film analysis and just overall how wholesome and sweet you guys seem 🥺
I've read that they kind of rolled back those statements about this being the first time the Predator species coming to Earth, and rather they changed it so it's the first hunt that specific predator in the film had on Earth, which I think is great because it opens up possibilities for other Predator films to take place in other time periods.
I also wanted the mention how we got the inverse of the use of mud in this film because when I first saw Naru get stuck in the mud pit I really thought she was going to use it to cover herself to trick the Predator but I like the fact that the medicine that she learns from her mom is what help gives her the edge to beat the Predator.
The Predator throwing the bear trap at the one trapper’s head and it clamping down and killing him made me and my bf stand up and cheer. That’s probably my favorite kill of all time. But we watched this the morning after we watched Bullet Train, and we both definitely liked Prey WAY more, for many reasons. I grew up watching the Predator movies and my bf did not, this was the first Predator film he’s ever seen, and he loved it.
I saw people complain how “there’s no way *she* couldn’t beat the predator like beating the predator doesn’t come down to raw strength but resourcefulness!
I have strong indigenous Mexican lineage and I know it’s not the same ( technically cousins) but it was amazing to see all the native Americans and their culture ( it was also beautiful to see other with similar indigenous features 🥰)
French actually got along well with first nations and learned the language this is where the Metis come from first nations marring and mixing their culture and European culture such has Dutch and French. also, French stayed close to Quebec and Ontario, and it makes no sense they are 1000 miles out into buffalo country from Louisiana where they would be in the 1800's in this movies time frame, she should be meeting Spanish and English not French Cajuns worst is the French men has a French-Canadian accent what is he doing all the way out there he should be in the Louisiana bayou poor has hell after deportation if you look at French history in America this movie make no sense. just to had French fur trades ended in 1696.
I loved everything about this movie I just can’t believe the fact it took this long to finally give us a true predator movie worthy to sit in line with the first
I loved this. I really appreciate movies with leading woc that make smart decisions or don't feel like they are making bad decisions for the story to move along. She was smart and she kicked ass
It's annoying to think theres going to be a bunch of dudes that are definitely gonna be mad cause of the "Strong Woman" or if she emphasizes her people think(cause they think it's "woke" or some shit) she can't hunt cause well they wouldn't given how "traditional" they are and thank God there wasn't a love interest just family and monster, also the French
Honestly I don’t think this falls into the “woke” culture. The movie doesn’t make Naru a Mary Sue nor does it make her a character tht doesn’t make mistakes. It’s annoying when movies make a woman a character tht is simply just better then everyone else at everything. Naru fails multiple times but learns from those failures and uses what she is better at. She doesn’t beat the predator bc she is a better warrior (it’s shown the brother is a better warrior but he still lost), she is a better hunter thn the others so that’s y she won.

I love this movie!! So many movies are filmed by my hometown (Calgary, AB), but this one really highlighted it with the cinematography. I cried at the end 🙌🏻
I'm shocked people would complain about Naru being a Mary Sue. I'm sitting there watching it like "This girl should have been dead AT LEAST four times so far (the lion, the bear, the mud, when the trappers trap her)!" I felt they built her up very well. She not only used her intelligence but they showed how she learned from hers (and others) mistakes.
Around 53:00 I think what makes the first predator so great is because you see it’s Arnold but he’s facing something that even he’s terrified of and completely outmatches him so he ends up needing to learn how it works and outsmart it instead of using his muscles and badassery.
It’s implied in the novelization of the first movie, that the Predator (Jungle Hunter) had been to many other planets and had hunted and killed many apex species, it had just never hunted humans before.
This movie was done so well and so much care in treating the Native American characters with dignity and respect and not using the same tropes!! Gives me hope to see a Native American superhero in Marvel!! Plus the kills were great in the film itself!! I do wish I had been released in theaters!!
I absolutely loved the mud. Like, talk about a red herring reference, because you ASSUME that it is going to be how the Predator can't see her, but that mud pit is a red herring for that. INSTEAD it's what helps her KILL the damn thing. The other thing I loved is that the Feral Predator shows RESPECT to the things he hunts (except the french), like, he recognizes when they get their licks in on him and adjusts and I love that.
Funny that Chelsea said she did the Leo point when she saw the flintlock pistol, I did the point when the brother said "If it bleeds, we can kill it." This is how you do a proper reboot of a long running franchise. It's a similar concept, but executed in a very different way. And I like that this is so different from the other movies. The other Predator movies have a lot of over the top elements to them and Prey is so much more grounded in its characters and tone. It never crosses that line into goofy popcorn movie. Also the first time, really, that I've rooted hard for the main characters. Other Predator movies, you're kind of waiting for the deaths. I really cared about the characters here and was invested in their respective journeys.
I paused this early on to go watch it because in 12 minutes, you guys hyped it up enough for me to go and watch this movie on hulu! Definitely glad I did, it was badass :)
@@scaryrumpus i wasn't the biggest fan of Prey. That being said, The Predator and the AVP movies were REALLY bad. Although, the 2nd AVP was so bad that (for me) it was incredibly entertaining lol
As a linguist, for the question about Native American/First Nation language families, not all of them are related, but some of them are. There are 28 language families in the Americas (North, Central, and South America). The most spoken in the US currently is Navajo, the Athabascan family. The Athabascan family includes ~45 other Native languages spanning from Alaska to Mexico along the west coast going inland, covering like half of Canada.
I liked how Prey drew a comparison between the French trappers and the Predator as hunters killing simply for greed and ego, as opposed to Naru who eventually chooses to hunt to help her community.
The scene in the tall grass where the Predator caught up with the guy and all we hear and see are screams and his blood violently splashing all over the place is the best example of this. You don't see the guy getting brutally torn to shreds but you see and hear just enough to visualize it.
Bro I love this movie. I'm glad its getting mostly positive reviews. A lot of the negative stuff I've seen just seems like people choosing not like it and nitpicking. Also people really hate women being strong in movies too. Yea she got slapped around but honestly having crazy resilience in movies is fine. I'm so happy for the Native American community they caught giant W with this. Just a fun movie man and its simple. Amber Midthunder is a badass so is Dakota Beaver.
I feel it James I’ve been married a year and a half and I always forget my wedding ring 😂. To be fair though I work with high voltage equipment a lot so I genuinely rarely wear it
I'm so glad you enjoyed this film. I told a friend that Prey gets a lot of undeserved hate. His response was that it gets a lot of undeserved praise. I really enjoyed it though. I even liked it more than the original. The reason is because the original was a cheesy 80s action flick. Which is fine, but it's not necessarily my favorite kind of film. I prefer this style of film. Plus, with Arnold being the star, you absolutely expect him to kick the Predator's ass. His character doesn't really grow. Whereas, Midthunder's character DID grow and overcame insurmountable odds.
Legit just finished the Nope podcast and refreshed youtube and this came up. Both movies were my favourites so far this year, so stoked for this episode!
Blooded is when they kill a Xenomorph, they are concentered an adult. The premise is that it is this specific Yautja's first time on earth and that he is from a different hemisphere of Yautja prime, which is why he looks different and uses different gear. Also this movie fucking kicked ass so hard. Best one so far in my opinion.
13:38 YEESS!! My guy gets it hahaha 🙌 I'm a Pueblo Native (NM) and my first thought after seeing this movie, was exactly that. I have little brothers and sisters who are wild already, but when they get to see just how awesome we as Natives CAN be, they'll be unstoppable in life 🤙It was the little things in the movie that went far for me, the kick to wake Naruu up in the morning, the baby craddleboard(which is still used for newborns today), the long shot through camp with the people doing their own thing 👌👏 There's a connection I've made since I 1st saw the Predator movie is that, us as Natives are "One People" BUT we have different AND overlapping cultures. Which is a effect of where we settle. Pueblo Natives are different than the Northern Plains Natives, but somethings overlap, and others don't. The Yautja are similar 🤷♂️.
Prey has exceeded my expectations. This isn't just better than the 2018 film but it's also the best Predator film on par with the original. Of course the original is still the number 1 masterpiece of this franchise but Prey comes very close. I wish they released this in theaters. I don't understand why they put it on streaming. It would have been MUCH better as a theater experience. Predator 2 and Predators are also decent films, Predators holds a special place in my heart because it's the movie that introduced me to this franchise. The Predator 2018 is the only solo Predator film that sucked.
It was Topher Grace who played the doctor in Predators. It makes sense you thought it was Tobey Maguire because they both were in Spider-Man 3 where Topher's character is meant to be a twisted version of Tobey's that reflects all his negative traits.
I’m part Cherokee and Sioux, although I don’t really look like it. But my son looks exactly like my native grandma and he loves learning about our culture. He LOVED Prey. He never pays any attention to movies, I didn’t expect him to even look up at it but he was really into it and so was I! This movie kicks ass. Can’t wait to see the kill count 😎
one of my personal signs that a horror movie did it's job and told a damn good story is when it makes me cry b/c i'm just that damn amazed and overjoyed by it. this was one of those movies for me and why representation matters so so SO much. i'm in the same position as joey; i'm not comanche but i am native, and this film is absolutely a win for native communities everywhere. naru's victory cry hit my soul like nothing else and seeing her finally receive the war chief's staff ruined me in the best way; joey is 100% right: this Should be the standard.
It was pretty good and actually trying to do something different which is the important thing, it was refreshing to see the Predator in a new environment. I didn't feel it was preachy, it was situating the Predator in a new environment, imagine putting the Predator in Feudal Japan, Aztec Mexico or Genghis Khan's Mongolia. The possibilities really are endless and they can definitely find new and unique environments to put the Predator in. It's certainly more interesting and can develop new unique stories in the franchise, rather than retreading the soldiers vs predator trope, which we have seen many times now. Unsure, which sequel I prefer; Predator 2 is so zany and bonkers, with a great cast; Glover, Busey and Paxton, I will always have a soft spot for it. Only small complaint is the verrrry CG predator, I think this will hurt the movies watchability in the long run.
1:00:50 It’s funny that you say that considering that In The Predator comics. There have been times where Un Clocked Predators were able to Effortlessly wrestle and even defeated Lions, Tigers, and Bears OH SHIT
Imo this predator's face looks MUCH better than the classic one we're used to see. The first time I saw the classic predator face I laughed, this time I was like "Holy shit this is a cool alien"
I loved this movie! The cinematographer was great. At the beginning before you meet the predator, it was great when they were zooming into random shots in the background of where they were walking to set up tension!
At 13:10 Chelsea makes a good point, but I think the heart of that gets missed so much. It's cool that the native and female representation are there, but Prey handles both of those things in a way where it isn't trying to prove a point (unlike a ton of other movies now). The lead character *happens* to be a female. The predator *happens* to attack native people. The lead could have been a boy and the group of people could have been any group and the story would be the same. The point is the story carries the movie and not "sTrOnG nAtIvE wOmAn". And I get Joey's excitement about it, but I disagree that natives deserve a Mary-Sue, because all that does is reinforce what people hate so much about "woke" movies nowadays. And it worries me how he keeps saying "but it's also an amazing movie", because that should be the first criteria for a movie, not representation. Imagine if the SuPeR sTrOnG annoying Mary-Sue vet from Jurassic World 2 was the main character of Prey. The representation would be there but the movie would suck and people would call it "woke bullshit" and it would deserve that title.
I think you just proved Joey's point though. You said that if a "Mary Sue" character was a Native character in Prey, the movie would "rightfully" be called "woke bullshit"... even though Jurassic World was not described as such. You're saying that just by making that character Native, it makes the movie "woke". That's essentially saying a movie with non-white characters either has to be good or it's woke. They can also just be bad, and they should allowed to be.
@@DeadMeat I see what you're saying, but the only reason I used the character from Jurassic World 2 was because they were being so explicit in the movie about her being there for diversity. They even used the "nasty woman" line from the poem Ashley Judd read. I feel like a lot of people didn't like her character and saw it as an insert that only had 10 mins of screentime (which is why it isn't on the whole regarded as woke). I completely agree that not every indiginous/POC character has to be at a 10, but it matters about intent. I'm Hawaiian and would be thrilled to have seen Prey set in Hawaii, but if the sole purpose of having a Hawaiian character in a movie is to shove a message onto people without a good story behind it then I wouldn't like it. That isn't to say that Hawaiian actors/directors/producers shouldn't be allowed to make mistakes or make bad characters by mistake (like every artist does in their career), but my point is that it's clear when it's done solely with the intent of messaging or when it's done like they have in Prey. (Also, thanks for taking the time to respond to my first comment! Love y'alls channel!)
I didn't see anything about this movie before watching it and had no idea it was a predator movie going into it. The movie rocked and I'm glad it was my first predator movie experience
The fur trappers needing to slowly reload after firing 4 shots was the funniest gag in a horror movie I've seen in a while.
So glad someone said this that was hilarious like. I also don’t believe they mentioned the fact that they 100% had the best chance to win in that moment knowing bullets to the skull can kill. They literally were just meatheads though and didn’t think it through. They tried to capture it like what?
That’s probably the funniest bit in a Predator film I’ve ever seen.

@@patrickbrisson1 I would say relatively soon since it’s available on streaming.
Very cool 😌
How she hided her body heat. That was awesome.

My understanding of the director's comment was that this was *this* predator's first hunt on Earth, sort of as a foil to it being Naru's first hunt. Because there is stuff in the lore that hints that the predators do sometimes return to Earth, but this was this specific predator's first time.

Still You know this cuz director stated that. For someone who will just watch movie it's simply dumb movie, it has shitload of writing problems e.g Predator handling fucking grizzly bear with bare hands but having problem to overpower tiny girl.

That is a very good point I hadn’t considered before! To go from the 50’s or 60’s where Cowboy Westerns with their inaccurate depictions was all that was available especially outside the US and Canada, to there being big budget movies that have some real connections to the culture that the world can enjoy together. James definitely should do a kill count for this when he has time and when it releases on dvd
Funny that Chelsea said she did the Leo point when she saw the flintlock pistol, I did the point when the brother said "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
This is how you do a proper reboot of a long running franchise.
Really hope they do a limited theater release for this one. I watched it on a 120" home theater screen and I still wanted it bigger!
I paused this early on to go watch it because in 12 minutes, you guys hyped it up enough for me to go and watch this movie on hulu! Definitely glad I did, it was badass :)
PREY was such an upgrade from the shitty movies we’ve been getting like AVP and THE PREDATOR
AVP it dumb fun but yeah the predator is fucking garbage.
How is it better than them?
@@scaryrumpus you need it explained how a really good movie is far superior to a couple of really trash movies?
@@scaryrumpus i wasn't the biggest fan of Prey. That being said, The Predator and the AVP movies were REALLY bad. Although, the 2nd AVP was so bad that (for me) it was incredibly entertaining lol
That first avp movie isn't THAT bad. its dumb, but its at least entertaining.
What I loved about Prey and Predator 2, is that there is no forced love story or romance.
I liked how Prey drew a comparison between the French trappers and the Predator as hunters killing simply for greed and ego, as opposed to Naru who eventually chooses to hunt to help her community.
Even though Prey kills were off screen, the implications were so good it makes it more scary then showing it.
The scene in the tall grass where the Predator caught up with the guy and all we hear and see are screams and his blood violently splashing all over the place is the best example of this.
You don't see the guy getting brutally torn to shreds but you see and hear just enough to visualize it.
It wasn’t scary to start with so show the kills lol
There's a fair amount of on screen kills too though
Bro I love this movie. I'm glad its getting mostly positive reviews. A lot of the negative stuff I've seen just seems like people choosing not like it and nitpicking. Also people really hate women being strong in movies too. Yea she got slapped around but honestly having crazy resilience in movies is fine. I'm so happy for the Native American community they caught giant W with this. Just a fun movie man and its simple. Amber Midthunder is a badass so is Dakota Beaver.
James forgetting to wear his wedding ring has been great reassurance for me continuing to forget to wear my engagement ring 👍🏻
I love the shout out to Reservation Dogs and Rutherford Falls. I heard the there's a full Comanche version of the film.
I have been looking forward to this episode and I am so, so excited to hear Joey's perspective.
I hope that James covers this movie on the kill count, just watched prey, it’s incredible
Iv been looking forward to this one James
I loved this movie
Legit just finished the Nope podcast and refreshed youtube and this came up. Both movies were my favourites so far this year, so stoked for this episode!
Love when a new Dead Meat video drops!! My kid introduced me to the channel. I must have raised him right 😆
Blooded is when they kill a Xenomorph, they are concentered an adult. The premise is that it is this specific Yautja's first time on earth and that he is from a different hemisphere of Yautja prime, which is why he looks different and uses different gear. Also this movie fucking kicked ass so hard. Best one so far in my opinion.
Just watched Prey yesterday I really liked it, I missed Predator haven’t seen a predator movie in awhile ofc
Never watched a podcast before, this’ll be my first one
Welcome to the Meaties tribe👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Welcome, homie! The podcasts are great, and Chelsea is the dopest. My faves are the game episodes like guess the kill
I wish I would have realized there was a Comanche dub before i watched it but I'm really stoked it's the same cast providing the voices.
The Predator 2018 is the only solo Predator film that sucked.
i thought this on my third rewatch. it was on par with the OG. along with no callbacks to classic Predator lines.
It was Topher Grace who played the doctor in Predators. It makes sense you thought it was Tobey Maguire because they both were in Spider-Man 3 where Topher's character is meant to be a twisted version of Tobey's that reflects all his negative traits.
Lucy has her own seat at the podcast table.
One thing I feel this movie definitely showed us Is that certain Predators carry a S**T load of equipment
Do a shot every time yer man says “Native” and May you rest in peace.
Awesome movie, elite level episode!
My predator movie list ranked best to worst based on how much I enjoyed it
1. Predator
2.predators
3.predator 2
4. Prey
5. Avp1
6.avpr
7. The predator
How can you not like AVPR? They frickin nuked a whole town
Sarcasm
The Predator is the Great movie about Predator. Not sarcasm
@@ДмитрийАммосов-ъ5г no the fuck it’s not
one of my personal signs that a horror movie did it's job and told a damn good story is when it makes me cry b/c i'm just that damn amazed and overjoyed by it. this was one of those movies for me and why representation matters so so SO much. i'm in the same position as joey; i'm not comanche but i am native, and this film is absolutely a win for native communities everywhere. naru's victory cry hit my soul like nothing else and seeing her finally receive the war chief's staff ruined me in the best way; joey is 100% right: this Should be the standard.
I'm from the Zapotec, I would kill for an Aztec Mexico setting for a Predator fim.
I AGREE SO HARD!!!
Probably one of the best things was that the characters didn't speak to much so there wasn't enough room for virtue signaling, eye rolling dialogue.
1:00:50 It’s funny that you say that considering that In The Predator comics. There have been times where Un Clocked Predators were able to Effortlessly wrestle and even defeated Lions, Tigers, and Bears OH SHIT
Would be interesting to see a story about a human being inducted into the predator ranks.
Commenting as I watch, I did appreciate that the predator itself was still learning too, it has arrows. So much good action.
Instead of having kid sidekicks in movies, can we just make them dogs and not kill them haha.
Imo this predator's face looks MUCH better than the classic one we're used to see.
The first time I saw the classic predator face I laughed, this time I was like "Holy shit this is a cool alien"
Straight-up, Prey is my first Predator movie.
I quite enjoyed the hell out of it.
Can't wait for the eventual Kill Count.
Now go watch Predator, Predator 2 and Predators.
@@Spider-Man2094 the avp movies are worth it too if you just want dumb fun
Do it just for the enjoyment alone because so many of these movies are a whole lot of fun
@@Spider-Man2094
I plan on doing that.
Do I also have to watch The Predator as well?
