Here in poland ( most of europe) we have a habit of, if somebody is on the merging lane. You drive onto the overtaking lane and continue your travel without slowing down. And the person on the merge lane doesnt need to worry!
I grew up in Poland, now live in the US. As horrible drivers as Americans are, the one thing they are pretty good at is letting other people enter by moving over. Thank God because the amount of people entering highways at 30mph is terrifying. That should not be a thing though! If you enter the highway, it ON YOU to do it safely. Floor your dumb minivan or pickup truck and get up to safe speed!
In Canada I thought I was the only one to do that because I did not no that was a thing I was just trying to make the guy get into the merge without added stress
In Finland that's illegal. People still do it, but it's literally illegal to move to the passing lane on a highway to let people merge. It's expected that people know how to merge properly so the law wants to discourage people switching over to the passing lane for no reason which can be potentially dangerous especially in a situation where they are focused on the car to the right of them, making it more likely that they forget to check their mirrors and blind spot while changing lanes. It's likely better in US for example where the highways have 4 lanes but in Finland where basically all highways are two lanes only so the lane where you would make way to is the passing lane which is supposed to be clear at all times, they don't want people switching over while going at or even below the speed limit and potentially slowing down the traffic.
In Germany it's illegal to drive below 60km/h on the Autobahn and even if you do drive with the minimum speed you can be sure to earn the anger of all other drivers because the recommended speed is 130km/h and trucks usually drive 100km/h already. So you basically become a obstruction and endager everyone else.
Okay, so I confronted a friend about him going slow on the entrance ramp and he said "well you can lose control of your car at those speeds" like if you can't go fast enough then stay off the freeway
I always park far away, I get some extra walking and it's super convenient for me when it's time to leave and I can just drive out of there instead of a bunch of people walking by as I'm trying to get out of my spot.
I park far away because people cannot park at all and I don't want to be near them. Doesn't matter though because I'm back in less than 5 minutes just to be surrounded...
I was way too anxious to drive when I was a teenager (I tried but just couldn't take it) and now that my anxiety is more manageable and I'm finally learning how to drive and getting into cars this stuff is really helpful, knowing what people consider to be jackass behavior and how to avoid it helps my anxiety around driving a lot even if most of it is common sense i can already figure out.
Just be careful that it actually helps with your anxiety and not make it worse. I feel like watching too many of these videos could make you think that every driver is about to get annoyed or film you or make fun of you at the first mistake. I hope it doesn't

I think an important one missed here is moving over out of the right most lane if someone is merging (assuming the left lane is clear, of course) 9 times out of 10 you are driving faster than the person trying to merge so you can properly (and safely) overtake them and then move back over into the right lane after you get enough distance to… and then of course this allows them to properly overtake you if their desired cruise speed is higher than yours.
Years ago, me and my father were coming from the dealership in the new car and we parked in a fucking parking spot with no cars nearby and we were still scratched. I am still mad about it.
Everything you said is 200% true. My grandfather did this all the time merging onto a highway. He couldn’t turn his neck all the way over to the left and he would merge going 20mph and every time I was with him all I would hear is numerous ppl beeping their horns at him 😂
The stop-light thing wasn't necessarily true. Where I live and where I've been in the USA, a lot of lights have sensors that might not detect you when you initially pull up. I've actually had to wait 5+ minutes at stop lights because the shitty sensors don't recognize my tiny Honda. Creeping forward does the trick sometimes. It is an actual strategy with a practical application. Some lights it doesn't work, however. Like timed lights or the pressure plate lights that use the weight from the car to detect a presence.
Whenever I park slightly "too far away" with my family I get the "Why'd you park this far away?" and it irritates me. I'm not terminally carbrained who thinks that I need a car for every inch of my life.
Almost every time I see someone creeping at a light next to me I’ll take that as an excuse to test how quickly I can react to the light change. 9/10 times I start off much sooner than they do.
I hate when they go to the left lane in traffic. They need to leave 20 car lengths in front so they can’t keep up, yet they insist they need to be in the left lane.
@1369Stiles I agree that lots of people keep the world turning, just a lot of them don't sacrifice as much as some truck drivers do when it comes to a life outside the job, regularly not seeing there family's for very long periods.
So I'm a rather casual car girl myself. As for the first one, I tend to park closer to the exit. When I go to an amusement park, my goal is pretty much to be the closest car to exit of the parking lot. I'd much rather walk than wait in traffic. As to the second one, I tend to do this, but only once the cross lights turn yellow, especially at an intersection I've been through numerous times and have memorized the pattern. I try not to creep at intersections I've never gone through before.
"Just trying to go home" YES. This speaks to my soul. I daily my Scat Pack and while I know it's not an insane super car or something and it's not people filming I get a lot of guys who are trying to race and I honestly just want to go home. Here in Denmark the stop line at traffic lights are often measured so that a turning bus can just precisely pass you without hitting you. If you drive past the white line, you're either gonna get hit by a bus, or hold up traffic...
That first one is so true. I will park at the end of the lot so I don't have to struggle to find a close spot. It annoys my wife because she doesn't want to walk. Well I can walk to the store in far less time than it takes her to find a parking spot up close.
I giggled at the creeping on red entry. Always see moms in Ford Escaped creeping 43 car lengths past the line and then I show her the gapplebees in me wagon. They typically tend to react about 3 seconds slower anyway
@@thytor756 The thing is the RX-8 is actually in an affordable price range for most people, unlike the RX-7's (except for the FB, but that is kind of slow iirc), and imo the quirkyness of it makes it kind of cool in a way.

They have ample road to accelerate to the proper speed but decide to endanger themselves and drivers around them. I know this is an older video but You was recently recommended and I’m loving all the content keep up the amazing work
I drive a tractor trailer for a living , your points are spot on . When I'm empty and need to pass it sucks to get caught up in the fast lane behind someone doing 50 in a 70 now I'm stuck and people in the slow lane won't let me back over because everyone doesn't want to be behind a big truck, in reality we're faster than most people on the road and doing it safely , I've logged 2 million more with no at fault accidents .
When ever I'd be a passenger to my ma's driving, the time comes when she wants to change lanes. Well she'll get all aggravated when she can't get over. So I say hey you know there is this thing thats standard on cars now a days called a TURN SIGNAL. Maybe turn that on and see if someone lets you over now that they know thats what you're trying to do. She doesn't like when I give her tips for driving, but I wouldn't be giving them if her driving wasnt asking for them lol. An extended note to using turn signals is when I see some one do as I suggest to my ma, I'll double tap my lights to let them know I see you and see you want over, come over you're clear.
There's also the inverse of the people who sit in the passing lane for what feels like decades. Those people who will come up behind you and flash their high beams at you while you're right alongside a semi, as if they expect you to just jam your car underneath it so they can get by
@@AdamSmith-gs2dv Trucks usually go the speed limit or slightly over. If you're passing a semi 5mph faster it's fine. I'm talking about people who are passing a semi like 1mph faster and it takes them like 5 minutes to pass it.

Carpool lanes are the bain of my existence. Why Is it that california drivers are such petty people when it comes to driving? Its like they're too prideful to move out of the passing lane even though they are going 5 under
As a German, I can confidently say that driving the speed limit in the car-go-really-fast-lane (far left) happens waaaaaay too often... but what I hate is, when people drive in the middle lane of a 3-lane section of the Autobahn, especially if the right lane is totally free, the next semi is like 2, 3 km away and they just sit in the middle lane bc " I am too lazy to go to the right lane bc I would have to move over anyways in a few seconds" and you just can't pass bc in the left lane, there are constantly Bimmers, Mercs or Audis passing with 200+ kph
My 91 year old grandma is an absolute leadfoot lmao Before anybody asks, yes she is doing very well mentally and physically... She just has a habit or driving 95 in a 70 lol
5:33 I had that question in my german license exam and had the same thought, cancel your own pass and let the guys behind you pass first. This is actually wrong, you should floor the car and pass as fast as possible. DONT BRAKE when someone much faster than you is directly behind you. Ate that 5 point question :(
As a mechanic I'm well aware the majority of people don't respect their own car let alone mine that I'm proud of. I always park as far away as possible cause I got sick of constantly finding new scratches on my car.
On the other hand to the last entry, as a classic car driver I often get positive reactions from people in traffic. People give way more easily because of understanding that old cars aren't as fast and sometimes even cops have pulled me over to ask questions about my ride due to pure interest. It's chill all around.
I think the main reason the Autobahn, and most European highways, work so well is because most of us have to do a lot more work to actually get out driver’s license. We in the Netherlands for instance aren’t even allowed to take the driving exam without knowing how to drive manual, I was honestly shocked to find out the US doesn’t even mandate it
You guys in the Netherlands also have alternatives to driving that I wish we in the USA had. Most of the people in Europe can go about their lives just fine without needing to drive at all so non-car people don't need to bother learning how to operate a large machine they don't care about operating.
as you've mentioned Germany: here, the highway related things are not "car guy things" to do right, but rather, any sensible driver does them right. It's not seen as special at all. It's just those who don't drive frequently who are amongst the people doing it wrong.
Another reason I think the Autobahn works so well is because there are alternatives to driving so people who don't want to drive or don't understand all these rules can just choose not to drive, leaving the Autobahns open for all the people who like/know how to drive a car well can all put their mutual understanding to use. That's not really a thing over in the US and Canada.
This video was hilariously accurate. To avoid the merging problem I usually will sit in the middle lane or move over to the middle lane if I’m in the slow lane if I see an on ramp coming up so that way I can just avoid them entirely and keep moving because it really does piss me off when people stay on the on ramp until the bitter end.
This is what I do as well and it works great. Get on the highway, safely get to the middle lane, stay there unless I am passing or getting off at the next exit.
Creeping at red lights though. I drive a manual, and just like you mentioned, staging, is beneficial. By watching the traffic in the intersection, you know kind of, when you're next, So you start to engage the clutch so you can take off faster with less slip, as you don't have to rev as hard to speed up fast. Since this is a habit of mine, it has made me HATE all the mouth breathers that don't, fucking, GO. They just wait until the car in front is gone, then sloooowly creep forward, trying to hit that sweet 0-60mph in 5 minutes goal. If you're at an intersection, accelerate WITH the others, and step on the fucking throttle!
@@Schimml0rd I think you vastly overestimate how long i ride the clutch for. 37k+ Miles with a +30% torque, +43% hp Tune and it shows no sign of wear. I simply begin the creep in advance with no throttle input and then I can get on the throttle with the clutch almost completely engaged. Takes under a second or two to get rolling like this. With good planning it works out great. Less wear on my engine mounts as well.
even with an auto, getting your feet off the brake will actually give your car a little bit more speed without having to floor the pedal when the light turns green. now, rolling forward is another story. rolling forward means a lack to estimation to when the light turns green. we can do better than that.
My habit is to take it easy on my equipment, at a light on level ground I'll drop it into neutral and release the clutch and brakes, that normally works well until I have some AirHead pull up alongside me to inform me that my brakelights are out...........Duh, the reason my brakelights are Not illuminated is because I don't need to have them applied, I'm in Neutral. Oh, so you sit at the light in park.............. No I'm in Neutral, this vehicle doesn't have a Park, it has a first, second, third, fourth, fifth reverse and neutral but no park. It is Clearly displayed on the rear of said vehicle that it is a Stickshift and that it is NOT a Ferrari, I like my slow movig 'Slug'!!
well luckily for high schoolers now a days, the only high schoolers who drive are actual car people who have interest in driving and prob watch car vids. i'm a junior and the parking lot is nearly empty at my school. the most common excuse is no longer 'i dont have a car' or 'parents dont have time to teach me' its now 'im too scared' so the only people who drive are car people now :D
Thanks for opening a different perspective for me. I’ll admit I did like 3 of these things cause I thought it was the right thing to do and the people that were going fast in the left lane were being assholes, now I’ve realized I’m the asshole and need to re learn how a highway system works
Unless the bums in your state keep repainting the paint on the street away from the actual sensor so you have to continually ease till it triggers and set your light green.
Driving through Georgia and Pennsylvania as a trucker is a treat. The dot cops down there are harsh, but the highway patrol in those states is on everyone's ass, especially left lane losers.
5:24 we actually have a law for that ("Rechtsfahrgebot"). It means that you're supposed to drive on the right, unless you're overtaking somebody. Even if you're driving at full speed, you're not meant to sit in the left lanes, unless you are passing people constantly. You can switch to the middle lane or left lane, when there's an entrance ramp and you're freeing up the right lane for merging traffic though.
What pisses me off most is tailgating....especially on the highway. imagine how stupid one must be to be drafting 10 feet from the car in front of them at 120 km/hr. literal insanity
4:00 It's actually simple: the rule is not about a slow lane and a fast lane ... You just need to overtake only to the left side, and the rest comes by itself. And, only one thing more, which is you may NOT drive the same speed as anybody in another lane. For most people that is obvious, but not for some unfortunately.
Yeah. Happens a lot. Or middle lane drivers (In Belgium, and Europe generally) you must always stick to the extreme right lane of your direction (so if you have 5 lanes but only 3 go to where you need to go, you go the the right lane of your area). When people do this, don’t react after a light beam bump, then I pass them on the right, I don’t give a shit anymore.
1:30 This is a little specific. Could have just said "Say you had somewhere to be", but he gave locations and times. I feel like this happened to Bladed recently.
My mom did the traffic light one on accident once when we moved to Dallas. She braked late and didn’t know where the sensor was, and tried to pull forward to correct herself. Drove past the sensor. Stuck for about 5 minutes since there wasn’t enough room for the car behind us to trip the sensor.
Everytime I park further away with my family I get the "Why'd you park this far away?" question. 1) We have legs so use them, 2) we're saving time by me _not_ driving around the parking lot for half an hour cuz I'm not terminally carbrained who thinks that I need a car for every inch of any trip.
One bad habit I personally hate: Reverse parking on a supermarket parking lot. When you go to the supermarket, you are expected to have something to load in the trunk of your car, so leave it outside. I hate when people reverse park, then have to go between cars with their shopping cart of their big bags and sometimes damage the car next to theirs because of this!
I’m so happy you mentioned creeping forward! It makes me so mad! People in Ohio creep forward literally into the middle of the intersection and then honk at me when they try to back up! Like no bro, you get to wait in the middle of the lane and get stared at for being the idiot you are
I'm a truck driver, and I was behind a porsche on one of the metered on ramps in the Salt Lake city area. There were 3 lanes, each with their own light, and it just sequentially gave one lane a green light every 5 seconds. Mr porsche stopped about 10 feet behind the line, but also 50% on the shoulder, and just sat there for about 20 cycles. I honked my little horn, nothing. I pulled up about 3 feet from his bumper, nothing. I blew my air horn, nothing. I finally layed on the air horn for like 5 seconds. I sh*t you not, the man pulled up to the line, put it in park, got out and walked up to my truck. I simply pointed at the light and he looked in time to see it turn green, so he got in his car and drove off. I actually wonder how long he would've sat there if I didnt bully him. The funniest part was that I could see him making wild hand gestures because all these other cars kept getting green lights, but he still didn't do anything.
I hate these habits, but they will still never surpass texting and driving. In Japan I’d ask my friends to Thales their phone to do stuff for them and they appreciate it. Since I’ve been in the United States it seems people here just won’t give it up.
I wish we had a better public transit system so people who don't care about driving and want to be on their phones while getting to where they need to go can just text on a bus or something and not have to drive. A real problem in the USA is that our infrastructure forces driving upon people, even people who don't give a damn about cars.
3:05 the only exception to the white line and crosswalk rule to me is Stop Signs and specifically stop signs with oncoming lanes of traffic that you cant see cause the city decided leave the three extruding trees and bushes there. when im walking i totally understand people pulling up in those situations, sometimes I help em lol
the rolling forward at a stop light depends because I see a lot of people around where I live stop way far back from the white line, like they leave an extra car length in front of them. So rolling forward into the spot where they should have been to begin with makes sense. I think it's in part due to the number of large trucks and SUVs that stop far enough back to see the white line over their massive hoods, which is unnecessary.
re: #3, no, you don't have to think while driving. You can hang out and pace with traffic in the right lane all day every day. I do it in my sports car when I don't feel like driving somewhat aggressively. There's no harm, no shame, and you'll lose all of 5% of your time to the increased commute time.
People in the USA think that time is everything when it comes to getting somewhere. Even if it was like 15 minutes in traffic, or 15.1 minutes by bus people would still drive. The journey is sometimes way more important than the destination. I love biking places and admiring the world around me
8:48 this makes my blood boil 4 slowpokes in front of me and no one on the 2nd lane! the overtaking is over, MOVE the fuck out of the way! and nice reference to the 1st one...
Plus with the people who do the speed limit OR slower in the left line cause a safety hazard because they are going slow in the passing lane, they force people to use the unsafer right or middle lane for passing.
Thank you for this. Didn't know these were typical car guy opposite trends but I agree with all of them. However the reason why I prefer to park far away from other cars is other cars. Don't want no soccer mom slamming my car when she gets her 2 year old out the car.
One non car guy thing I’ve noticed driving in CA is that when I see someone driving recklessly or too fast more often than not it’s a female and that scares me. X_X
In their defense when it comes to the red light thing, some red lights have bad sensors, and it takes a little inching for them to realize a car is there. Usually only necessary for the turn lanes but still.
For real. Especially common where I live. I've also seen lights that have a pad that detects the weight from the car to start a countdown to trigger lights. A lot of times bikers have trouble with those as the weight of the bike just isn't enough. You'll see dudes on motorcycles backing up, going forward, backing up, moving around on the pad, doing everything they can to start the countdown. A lot of things people do at stop lights does have a purpose. But we've all seen the drivers that think the light is going to change quicker by putting the nose of their car out beyond the cross-walk. Those are the idiots.

It is somewhat of a practice in the US, too, probably because they don't want to be stuck with someone doing 20 under
I grew up in Poland, now live in the US.
Honestly if you can't switch lanes over highway speed limits then you can't drive.

5:33
I had that question in my german license exam and had the same thought, cancel your own pass and let the guys behind you pass first.
We in the Netherlands for instance aren’t even allowed to take the driving exam without knowing how to drive manual, I was honestly shocked to find out the US doesn’t even mandate it
Here in Ireland we can do our test om automatic, but then we cant drive manual
You guys in the Netherlands also have alternatives to driving that I wish we in the USA had. Most of the people in Europe can go about their lives just fine without needing to drive at all so non-car people don't need to bother learning how to operate a large machine they don't care about operating.
as you've mentioned Germany: here, the highway related things are not "car guy things" to do right, but rather, any sensible driver does them right. It's not seen as special at all. It's just those who don't drive frequently who are amongst the people doing it wrong.
The only time you should go lower than the speed limit, is the roads are covered in snow.
Or heavy rain
I feel like you should probably slow down for red lights too
@@mrwalk6171 *Wow! You dont say?*
Or if you feel unsafe doing the speed limit. You don't want old grandmas doing 75 if they only feel safe doing 55. It's about the left lane hogging.

"You have friends like this."

You are constantly riding your clutch at every red light??
1 year old comment, by now i guess you learnt how much a new one costs XD
So everyone should get out your way just because of your 'habit' ? O.K.

The thick white line usually indicates how much space a semi-truck needs to make a turn. Please stop a few feet before that line. Thank you.
Chrisfix taught me park your car in an empty parking spot or from other cars to avoid getting scratch.
Well, move over so we can drive faster then.
Man, I really should send this to my entire school
Same. It's better for them too cuz they probably get scared if a car is behind them tbh xD

Everytime I park further away with my family I get the "Why'd you park this far away?" question. 1) We have legs so use them, 2) we're saving time by me _not_ driving around the parking lot for half an hour cuz I'm not terminally carbrained who thinks that I need a car for every inch of any trip.

A real problem in the USA is that our infrastructure forces driving upon people, even people who don't give a damn about cars.
Living in the northeast, it is justifiable to take forever to find a close parking spot when it’s winter
I love biking places and admiring the world around me
8:48 this makes my blood boil 4 slowpokes in front of me and no one on the 2nd lane! the overtaking is over, MOVE the fuck out of the way! and nice reference to the 1st one...
but bladed
u expected a miata question but instead u got this :D

0:41 in le-mall nice one bladed, thank God i was not drinking or eating anything would had made a mess
Or they stop and go at a stop sign.
Sexism, so funny haha
@@RyosukeTakahashiRX7 clearly you don’t live in cali 😂
Based
In germany when sb. is blocking the left lane at a slow speed (lets say 150mph) we simply penetrate them with the Lichthupe
