@@rogermoore3991 Agreed. In NHL ice hockey there are two referees -- one for each half of the 200 ft. x 90 ft. rink plus two linesmen. In professional football there is but one referee covering the whole of the approx. 405 ft. x 280 ft. pitch. Maybe it's time there were two refs in top-flight football, each of whom patrol only one half of the pitch -- just like the line officials do. That would help cut down the number of bad decisions and also enable decent referees who are a little less fit, to become part of the pool of qualified officials. I'd rather have a paunchy Phil Dowd refereeing than some of the present EPL refs.
Agree with Warnock. Dean wants to be in the limelight, but all for the wrong reasons.

Neil Warnock was always a likeable character and he's right here too. Referees seem subserviant to the VAR people now.
Glad to see the back of him, like Warnock said - great referees are invisible. You know when the ref has had a good game when you haven't noticed him the entire match.
Dean wants a part of the limelight, not allow the match to be the star, so yeh good riddance.
Also Ref's need to be held more accountable for their decisions. If they get it wrong, they get demoted, someone else is brought in.
They also need to come out on camera and explain a difficult decision after a match.
I would like to see Ref's straight after the match, go for review any contentious decisions, if found guilty of getting it wrong, they have to go back on the pitch and in front of the fans of the club they have wronged do 100 press up's for every wrong decision they made.....well I live in hope haha!
1 of the best refs ever was collina who was far from visible during a match. A good ref keeps up with play, doesnt let the crowd sway him and most importantly gets the decisions correct
When a ref stands before the VAR screen and takes more than 30 seconds to make up his mind, the decision shouldn't be reversible.
I can't agree with that, maybe on a basic offside call it should take 30 seconds or less. If they only took 30 seconds to make a call and got it wrong they would be ridiculed for not watching every angle or paying close enough attention "How can you check VAR and still get the call wrong?!" "Well R. Crompton on TH-cam said if I take longer than 30 seconds I can't reverse a call" ....and they are looking for more than just a foul or penalty when watching VAR, they are looking at the exact spot of the foul (what if it occurs just outside the box but it looks like it was in the box he falls in the box? that's the difference between a free kick and a pen etc), they are looking for intent, they are checking if they went in studs up, should it be a yellow card or red card or even be card worthy at all etc.
@@connorriley7511 I respect your point of view. Offsides are generally settled very quickly upon review because they have the vertical grid lines to reveal any space between the last defender and the recipient of the ball. That rarely takes more than 20 seconds of VAR review. Placement of fouls (in the box or outside) is also handled fairly quickly by VAR. 30 seconds in front of the screen is a lot longer than you think. Try it with a stop watch and you'll see that many different views can be visted in that time-frame. As for intent, if it isn't obvious by 30 seconds, what's the point of prolonging what's clearly become a subjective call? It's probably wiser then to just hold to the original decision and move on with the match.
Most referees are more sympathetic to the big clubs ;Warnock is spot , VAR is still making mistakes after watching replays.
For some reason I have this impression I could listen to Neil Warnock speak for ages.. 🙌🏾🤣

Refereeing is quite hard , especially considering all the different forces at play. I have had my personal heart aches from many Mike Dean calls but at the end of the day no one is perfect, and he has had some fantastic games and some funny games but farewell and thanks for the service to the beautiful game. Cheers 🍻
exactly...its a limited pool. Somehow we think referees should give their time for free...should not have an ego...not have career objectives...not care about taking a job for the money...not take care of their personal or family goals. We all think they should turn up on a Saturday or Sunday at our personal behest and do a perfect job... even at the lowest amateur level... No wonder no-one wants be be a referee

In the heat of a derby we fans can get carried away but at the end of the day it's just millionaires kicking around a ball whilst the refs pick up scraps . As an Aussie, it's so good hearing Warnock giving a shout out to Jared (not Andrew, lol) Gillett as one of the good ones. He was a top notch ref back here in A-League a few years back. Glad to hear he's making a name for himself in PL.

Out of shape, out of position, and more worried about becoming personalities (i.e. Howard Webb) - other leagues have a mandatory retirement age - if ANY league is dire for "fresh blood", it's the PL.

Why was MD allowed to ref Everton or Liverpool games when he is a local merseysider and I'm told his family,even though he follows Tranmere,are season tickets holders at Liverpool FC causing possible bias.
