From where I live Chengannur merely thirteen kilometers. But it is news to me that such a magnificent Church treasuring such a wealth of art, history and culture existed so near. Congratulatons to Sri Radhakrishnan. Trust he will unearth many more treasure chests in the neighborhood
From Trivandrum, go North via MC Road. After travelling about 120 km, you will reach Chengannur town. Chengannur Pazhaya Suriyani Palli is only at 1 to 2 km distance from Chengannur town.
By seeing the architecture its evident that this was a temple which is later converted to church.Even Malayatoor church was also a temple which was dedicated to lord Vishnu and Shiva it was turned as church by Thomasleeha(An Apostole of Jesus Christ).
Christians never build churches in place of temples😂 We wont take any valuables from temples also Many temples are looted and destroyed by some other community. U know it😂
There is an obsession with Christians esp Syrian Christians in Kerala to claim that all of them or majority of them are converts of Brahmins. In this context, it may be noted that Namboothiris came to Kerala only in the seventh or eighth century. At no point of time they were numerous, and so even if all of them had converted, they could not have contributed to the substantial Christian population of Syrian population in Kerala. The Namboothiris were land lords and were keen on perpetuating their control over land and hence they permitted only the eldest son to marry and the younger ones used to have 'sambandham' with Nair tharawads. In a situation where they were affluent and had everything going for them, was there any reason or incentive for them to convert to a new religion which demanded strict compliance to certain way of life and belief practices. Of course a few Namboothiri families would have converted but that doesn't support the hypothesis. Logically very often people convert because they perceive they would have certain advantages in following the new belief system and way of life. For a Namboothiri who was always at the top of social hierarchy, why should he give up that status and get himself reduced to a reduced social standing by conversion?

Some of the Brahmin communities in Konkan areas are claiming that they are descendants of Jewish people. Chotpavan Brahmins are one of them. The Puranas mentions that Parashurama converted some people in Konkan areas Brahmins as there were no Brahmin class on these areas at that time. As per the story these people were performing cremation / lighting the pyre on a beach side, possible deaths by shipwreak . Even the name “parasu” is Persian in old Armenian language Konkan Brahmins eat fish also. Namboodhiris are Brahmins migrated from Konkan areas, before they were from the land of Saraswati river; so is Saraswat Brahmins. Sri Shankaras origin is also from that areas. Read purana
