There is a version of this mini boombox by AudioCrazy which looks nearly identical but actually plays in stereo and has a much higher-quality cassette mechanism and motor. I did a video about it a while back.
I'll check that out. This one was disappointing all the way around. I ended up using it to stream music to while working on the new studio. It's now covered in paint and drywall dust. It fit the bill for a "disposable" Bluetooth speaker anyway. Lol
The flip out erase head needs to move away from the tape because it's just a magnet. A proper erase head does not move. The result of this means very noisy erase. Probably also means no AC record bias, more noise. I bet tape play from another machine may sound fair but recording on this machine is probably very noisy and lacking in treble. Crap is a word the comes to mind.
From what I understand, these use DC bias and recording is terrible. Once I saw the mono head and the permanent magnet, there was no point recording anything.
I wish there was a company making a decent cassette mechanism. The best new cassette players today are basically just the same terrible flutter-heavy models as everything else because they have the same terrible Chinese-made mechanism (likely out of the same factory), but with a stereo head and a few metal parts which are an improvement over the standard plastic. If we can get a single Chinese factory to start taking cassette seriously, then we can actually get some good cassette players on the market.
I agree with you. There are obviously people buying new cassette players and recorders, they're still making them. Someone needs to take quality seriously.
With something so small, it probably sounds better playing in mono. You should do a test...play a track in true stereo, then the same track in a mono mix. Stand across the room, wherever you might be for the casual background listening use you had in mind, and determine which track is more enjoyable. I am betting it will be the mono track.
Because the company was in a part of the world, where before, the TOOLING PARTS for the original equipment was probably sold to another company, and this new company made RIPTUNES…. and what other “generic no-name” music equipment, and you bought it, from a 3rd world exporter. If you want better equipment, you have to BUY NAME BRANDS. But this is a cheap music equipment, and it didn’t cost much. THESE DAYS… you have to get stuff like this “RIPTUNES” radio, because it will likely be STOLEN by shady people.☹️ and with the RIPTUNES- you are relieved that it wasn’t something more costly.

Onn?
A boombox is a boombox, a Walkman is a Walkman.
That looks like the identical player. I've also seen the same player rebadged as a Sylvania. There can't be much difference in the internals.

I'm glad that it won't damage your hearing due to excessive volume! But it will disappoint your expectations.
Definitely no risk of hearing loss!

i love the color bumblebee
RIP Tunes 🪦
In Italy this device is sold under the brand of trevi been out for 8 years
what new cassette boombox is good?
It's an affront to people that they even market this junk these days
The blue head is a permanent magnet. That's why it moves out if the way, it would erase any tape that was played otherwise 🫣
I wonder if the USB plays MP3 and WMA files in stereo.
It does. It appears only the cassette and radio are mono.
Listen to that high fidelity booming bass sound!! Better than a dolby s cassette deck!
I have a Miley Cyrus boombox it looks really cool it's the worst sounding piece of garbage ever have a great day thanks for the review
I can imagine that boombox in all its majesty. Lol

Good point, and you're probably right. I'll have to try that.
That Russian thing at least has a story to tell and is quite interesting.
Right! I can excuse poor quality if it has a story or history.
Just no charisma with the modern stuff, even the cheap 80’s boomboxes had some quality to them 👍
Would it kill these cheap companies to put stereo heads in? Ridiculous 😊
Right!
